The skybar has always kinda been more of a Z103.5 crowd/industry crowd any way... especially on a regular Saturday.

It seems like a natural progression to make the most of that connection.

I totally agree with you..I dunno what the big deal is..the skybar isn't what I would consider an "underground" venue...nor is the drink..those crowds are so much more different than what you get in the main rm and gallery..

The club is a world renowned venue that is teaming up with possibly the top radio staiton in T.O., on a business level you can't blame Charles for taking this route...on a personal level, of course I don't want to have to deal with the 103.5 crowds but I've been around this scene long enough to know that it ebbs and flows..the love of the music should help you to ride the waves..

Ofcourse Im not pleased with this...

But its not going to affect events like Lawler's sunrise set or Labour of Love, correct?

Therefore I dont think its going to change the crowd up there on a regular Saturday night. From what I remember it was a much different crowd than the main room.

BTW, i love the new pation area...they did a great job!

lawler is on a monday...

I dont think it'll effect any saturday, most likely what is going to be done is a party mix will be played on the radio with an mc faking like its live haha.. its common practice

it sucks but the reality is that the crowd up there has always been kinda lame and boring (besides special events) ... the music is always good but rarely do you see people dancing or going off to the music ...

i guess you have only been in the drink before 2am because after 2am is when they bring out the "omg what is that song?" bombs. you'd also be surprised at how many of the people in the drink late night know the music.

as for skybar, i agree with you. its a patio. its not meant to be an "underground" venue. patios bring out all sorts of people.

so why makes you think the main room and gallery has a more "underground" crowd? is it because they arent dressed as nice and show up to a club with ketchup stains on their clothes and pass out on the floor? if i told you that many people in the drink were also regulars at cz, would that make the drink more "underground"? its obvious that you dont spend enough time in the drink to make a proper judgement.

That's what I always tell to everyone; IT'S OK TO DRESS UP in the main room/ Gallery and still know/dance to HOUSE MUSIC!
lol!

Reality is the music hasn't been underground for a long long time. I've seen the "scene" explode over the years.....which in many aspects is a good thing....but I've also noticed...in general....that the quality of productions has gone down. There is good and bad when something becomes more and more popular.

A-FUCKIN-MEN!!!

It's not a big secret.. He did and interview with Toronto Life a couple of years ago which qouted some approximate numbers, though it doesn't talk about what he personally makes.

It's actually a pretty good read. Took him like 20 years to build things up to where they are now!

Yea', but it's still The Drink. Regardless whether 15 people in there know their music or not, it's still a mainstream venue, even after the bar stars have left.

I wouldn't consider The Gallery an underground crowd at all. In fact, lots of the music that got played there was pretty main stream.

I also wouldn't consider CZ to be underground at all either. In fact, it became quite popular, and lots of the music that got played down there was/is mainstream house/techno music.

That being said, I think people need to get over themselves. Stop being such try-hards by being "underground".

Like the scene and music for what it is. If you like it just because it makes you feel "underground" (ie it makes you stand out and feel important), to me you are really no better than the people you bash for being in the scene "just for the drugs".

my thoughts exactly. i am in the scene because i love the music and have met some great friends along the way. thats all that should matter.

I think you're taking this a bit too far lately.. stop being someone you're not.. You know you aren't this retarded in "real life" so why pretend to be? You're just pushing people away, people who could have been your friends. More people than you know read this shit.. you're not making the best impression.. and honestly, if you continue to act like this I don't know how much longer I'm going to defend you.

haha all those cool people off this awesome internet forum that people resort to to meeting and making friends .. yeah such a loss . u better let it go!.. thank god the bitchy ppl ignored me already so noones gonna quote this ahaaaaaaa

Started goin to the Guv about 9 years ago..used to frequent it when it was RPM....Sunday nights at RPM..when we actually used to "battle" on the dance floor..ya, people actually did that shit...I spent new year's eve 1999 stage left, and brought in the new millenium at the guv...I know a thing or two about the venue dude..no disrespect..

I've also been in the scene from a young age...started at all ages parties.., rmp, inner city, bassmint, crush, club focus..then, factory, industry...etc.. actual warehouse parties that were truly "underground" and countless raves..when we had them.. so, please don't insult me or try to punk me off on here as if I'm some ignorant poser tryin to make a statement...I've lived and breathed this scene for many, many years..

The presence of some sick tunes and a bunch of CZ regulars does not make a venue "underground" Don't ge me wrong..one of my favourite all time nights was spent in the drink, watching erick morillo spin a sick set...at a labour of love..many years ago..I'm pretty sure it was way after 2 am when he dropped his last track..

peace

i fuckin hate having to post some sort of resume to back up my "judgement"..not my style....but sometimes it's frustrating to read some of the shit on here from people that have no clue what they're talking about....

Posted by I_Am_Vince on May-03-2008 16:15:

So I was at the guv last night, the new smoking patio looks awesome. It's not done yet, but there is a lot more room and the bar in the middle just makes it better.

But the bottle service right in front of the DJ booth is a bit out of place. It's gonna suck
