I had one of Bill's fuel injectors for a while.

Anyway.. I'm not sure if you can still import R32 Skylines into the US since the Motorex screwup. Maybe it's just the R34s... don't remember now. At any rate... if you can't import the R32 EASILY... then that's what I'll pick.

Question out of interest...

How many of you have actually >ever< seen a car with European plates driving in the US?

I assume it's quite rare.

A few weeks ago I saw a car with Connecticut plates driving around Amsterdam.

let me tell you a story about two friends who wanted to buy a car not made in the US, lets call them Bill and Paul. About 20 years ago, what they wanted the most in thw whole wide world was a brand new Porsche 959 (and frankly who can blame them, that car was sick ). They went to Germany, bought the cars but when they tried to import them into the US they weren't allowed to, because those nasty German supercars were to filthy (emissions wise) to be allowed into the green US. Despite all their money and ninja lawyers (Bill and Paul were to say the least, filthy rich...think how much money Scrooge McDuck has and then imagine that each one of them has lots more) it would take them amny many years after another Bill signed some sort of law that allowed these precious cars into by classifying them as a part of history or something (cant translate that into english more accurately atm i dont have time

Actually the story behind 959 is that US Government asked Porsche for a 959 that they could crash for the safety standards, but Porsche didn't want to give them any. So what Bill did was he got a team of engineers to design a program to simulate the crash test of the 959, so that then Clinton signed a bill for those cars to be allowed in.

You mean the Delta? I was on about the Mini. But yeah, the Delta was a magnificent piece of work.

But i'm so Audi-biased you can't even imagine, and Lancias aren't exactly budget-friendly when it comes to parts & service.

The prices on spare-parts for an URQuattro ain't exactly cheap, but those Lancia parts are out of this world.

Doesn't matter how much money you have, if the DOT and EPA doesn't change their regulations, or allow you to do the research to import, then it matters not how much money you have. As previously mentioned, the Porsche 959 is a great example. Individuals have offered to crash the 3 needed for vehicle testing after Porsche refused, yet DOT and the EPA refused to allow this to happen. Also, there are cars that are BANNED for import, such as the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 and R33. R32 and R31 are able to be.

Also the only reason most companies don't come to the states is the cost to import is super high. Most of the cars in Europe sold today actually meet or exceed most US emissions standards, including diesels. (Most because not all, such as the states that have adopted emissions standards similar to California)
/nerd-on-import-bullshit

Oh and I wish we had (somewhat mentioned by chach) the Audi S3

or the new Audi A1

or BMW 130d

or Vauxhall VX220 (Looks similar to the Opel GT (Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice here in the states.) This car PRE-DATES the Sky/Solstice/Opel GT)
