You made some valid points rich..
some of which have been remedied.

we are looking at getting a new website so that it is easier to see all the events coming up....

Maybe you TA's can help which club in the world has the best website and why..

Much better. I like the peaceful Irving much better. Really didn't mean to make you upset my friend. Just having fun. I enjoy writing crazy stuff sometimes or else it just seems everyone is saying the same things over and over. That's all it is. There is never a reason to feel offended. We are all friends on here.

Have a good week.

I didn't go to the site to check it out but do know what Rich is talking about from my last visit. Ease of navigation is very important and the flash calendar or dynamic page, whatever it is, was always kind of difficult to give people directions on how to sign up for the guestlist.

I would however argue that the most important component is a web site administrator - someone whom manages the site. Understand this is a full time job in many cases - could be a lateral duties connected to running a web site for a nightclub besides just keeping it up to date - online promotions, email lists, myspace, eventvibe (since their new format). I agree with Rich 100% on the importance of up-to-date event information and the importance of a web site in an overall marketing/public relations program. An agressive online/email presence is huge, particularly in an industry where as Rich said, "customers and potential customers go [to the website] to scope the place out." I know I do this everytime I go to a new place.

It's not about being fancy and expensive. When it comes to a web site, it's about a user-friendly interface (knowing your market - event calendar, guestlists, CC transactions, directions, floorplan, and possibly even photos and resident DJ download/stream links), translating the unique appeal (The Wow factor - forget about the water wall, never noticed it as long as I have been going there - 4 rooms, 4 different genres of music usually, sound system, decor (could be better but seems to be getter there again), the fact that upstairs is 2/3 a legit ultra lounge contained within the club and up there on the other side is a legit ultra lounge within the club), and projecting an image/establishing a brand identity (brands are built with lots of focused energy and hard work - Good reputations are built as a result of dedicated branding. Bad reputations are built as a result of lack of a focused marketing program).

So anyways, the Internet is probably the most widely used and least expensive medium for communicating to your customers - whether it be 1015.com, Myspace, TA, or several other sites/forums. I'm sure there's an easy way to get a list of all 1015 fotos to pop up on eventvibe. eventvibe now hosts all photos. Individuals can upload their fotos there so anyone with a camera can display their images. A great feature I think but also a nifty way for a club to acquire constantly changing content at no cost.

Hmmm, I just like that Rich honestly and clearly defined short-coming here instead of everyone saying the same thing over and over.

I think when we feel more comfortable with one crowd we tend to try and justify our rejection of others.

I've been vocal about my preference for 1015 over Ruby skye but Lyndsay and I both were lovin Ruby Skye last Thursday. A lot of us were but the secret is to get there early, dance, and cut out when the one dancefloor gets too crowded which it always does. I've met some really good people at Ruby Skye but yeah, it is definately a different crowd than 1015 and honestly, i prefer the 1015 crowd. I've had several girl friends come up to me while at Ruby and say, "this guy is totally sticking his hand up my skirt." Totally unacceptable in my book. And when it happens frequently, it does say something about the patronage. And we all spill drinks! No matter where we are.

I agree....a website that's easy to update is key. If you don't have a dynamic publish system created to update Flash sites, it's a bitch.

I imagine some think I'll say bring the Ten15 board back. But, honestly, I think a better idea would be for them to say they support TA and send people onto this board. What has made this one board get more popular over the past few years is the Ten15 board being gone...is the Spundae board getting less participation (mainly because most of its users were in LA and once Spundae went to Avalon and a sub-organizer, talked from then died), etc....all those people finding their way here...so we have a bigger community that gets a tastes of what we think of all events, all clubs, all promoters...and it only makes the scene better. I remember when there were just a few of us on this board that pospted regularly and were from the bay area....now it's pretty even between NorCal and SoCal it seems...that's a good thing.

Just try to plan on updating the site on a particular night each week as it warrents. I update the Spundae site on Mondays....mainly because I always forget to do on Sundays, heheh....if anything is announced during the week through the club or whatever, I'll usually just wait until the following Monday to add it unless the date is real soon or if it's a BIG date being announced....some weeks it only takes minutes to update, other weeks it takes more as I gather DJ pics, ticket links, etc...in the end, not too hard...just a tad tedious...

Yep, a prob with some of Ruby's crowd...that said, it's still a million lightyears better than it was 3-4 years ago.

That all said when I'd bring Michelle with me to Ten15 she was ALWAYS being grabbed and had guys all up in her face...one time I almost ended up in a fight with a dude who was grabbing all kinds of girls. I was literally going after him when some other girl who was grabbed got security and by the time I got to him, they were there and they had to hold me back and put me in an arm lock. This was long ago when Ronski Speed & Second Sun played at Ten15....security was cool in the end and let me go, but I was ready to be kicked out, arrested, etc...glad they stopped me. Point is, same shit goes on at Ten15 and is not an exception.

Long as people are loving the music and acting appopriately and dancig with respect, crowds are fine. Every venue has their issues.

Ten15 is a venue that's much, much easier to hang with friends and I think it's why a number of TAs like going to Ten15 more. I actually agree...if it's too hang with friends and run around and have fun, Ten15 can be a btter place....my only issue is that half the crowd sometimes is zombied out most of the night and it can be a distraction. And they need to get people who actually know how to do lighting.

A club's website may not get a ton of traffic....but when someone comes to it and it looks clean and is updated regularly with all info being up to date, it gives a real good impression.

as soon as you typecast/stereotype clubs with crowds, you ruin the experience for yourself. i've been in good and bad crowds at every major club in the city and there's no one night or one crowd that can define the worth of an entire venue. it's silly. rather than be judgmental about the venue, i try to understand the many many factors that surround the make up of a given crowd including the hour of the night, the day of the week, the time of the year, the weather, the promoter(s), the club, who is playing, who is playing elsewhere, who played yesterday, who's playing tomorrow, who i'm with, where i'm standing, my mood and my expectations for the night. the variance in these factors affect how 2 people in the same club can have polar opposite accounts of the very same party. assholes don't have an official club they go to, there's been assholes in every single club i've ever been to.

so sad, but so glad i got the opportunity to roll up there with my friends and play in the main room, just in time!

cant thank taj enough for that, but just like circus, they may be coming back to the edm sooner then later, dont jump to conclusions

It is safe to say 1015 isnt ditching EDM music.. we are just broadening our Horizon.. there is just so much quality music out there right now..

Anyone feeling santogold.. she is amazing Edm influenced..

what about some of the Ed banger music...

hey we have collie buddz this friday.. that is some good dancehall

we just had dizzee rascal on wednesday and had around 1k people..

diversity is key....

What do you guys think of the formula of mainly trance in the main room on saturday nights, or would you like to see more diversity and acts like digitalism, Richie Hawtin, maybe some fresh techy stuff like Mandy maybe trentmoller etc.... IMO some more diversity would be real nice..

Let me know...

if you can bring back hawtin along with m.a.n.d.y. and trentemoller i dont care if its on a friday or saturday i'll be there! saturday needs some headliners badly though, whether its trance or other edm genres.

I would love to have TRANCE in the main room, house in the upstairs room, Breaks in the front room and Hard Trance is the basement.. I remember when 1015 would be full from basement to the top floor (3 years back?)..

Bring fresh Trance talent to 1015's main room, however make sure that the sound system is ready for the talent! =) ... Also regarding the other rooms dont just focus in the main room, bring key talent to other rooms...

On Friday you guys can stay experimental..

Amen!

What about Saturday (or the club as a whole) getting an efficient email blast from 1015. Or collecting new emails to reach new clientele. Or getting a new website up immediately (only takes 1 day to mock up a new one). How about flyer distribution since the entire world is not tuned into 1015.com or TA or signed up to the 1015 email blast.

How about acts like...

Booka Shade
Moby
Armand Van Helden
Junkie XL
Mauro Piccatto
Marco V
Tomcraft
DJ Icee
Chus & Ceballos
Desyn Masiello
Eric Prydz
Hybrid
Sander Kleinenberg
Underworld
BT
Carl Cox
Dirty South
MSTRKRFT
Eddie Halliwell
MYLO
Judge Jules
Funkagenda
Robbie Rivera
Antione Clamaran

Oh thats right i dont what i am talking about cause i dont "think outside the box."

Maybe you should give Ten15 something efficient to blast...
Instead of poorly designed flyers that appeal to a small minority..

I'm sure if you were able to book artist like booka shade, mstrkrft, junkie xl, marco v . etc... we would book it..

PS our email list is always expanding. in the last year alone it has doubled... SMS list is quite extensive as well(though we dont abuse it)..

unfortunately we get the most people unsubscribing from the list when they keep getting these Saturday email blasts, it also has a very poor open rate..

A suggestion get a good designer.. maybe you need help finding one, maybe someone on this board can give Taj some suggestions on where he can get good flyers and promo material designed.... whoever does ruby skye's does a good job in keeping the flyers uncluttered.

I'm sure you can go a bit more out of the box than that..

With me though and many I know, sometimes it isnt all about the music. Reason is, most of the time a DJ that comes to the bay area has a gig in between here and socal or in socal the next day or two. If the dj is scheduled to play at 1015 and 1015 doesnt say anything about the design inside for the night like they advertised in flyers for infetcted, we lose interest in seeing the dj in SF and plan a roadtrip. I know not everyone does this haha, but 1015 as a vibe just doesnt cut really, even if the music is top notch. I mean different drink prices from one time to the next, main room always changing, entrace music has nothing to do with main room music - and it isnt even a room - more like a tiny entrace bar. I dunno, flow imo for a vibe needs some major work. And def website updates and a calendar that goes for over 2 months if possible when booking dj. I would just have a list kind of like what the-church.com has going for Denver, that way you can always add in betwe4en dates if you list someone coming 3 months from now.

Posted by Ten15 on Jul-23-2008 20:54:

funny i just went to vanguards site and they only list to end of august.

we are listing all events till october that are booked or that we are allowed to announce..

church's website wouldn't even open up..

so i guess we arent that bad.. though i personally like mezzanines website how events are listed.. really easy to see what is coming up..

hell avalons site isnt that good either..

i know we are reworking our site.. and no we dont want to throw up just anything. so in the interim we are trying to keep the front page as updated as possible. as by looking at our statistics most people just go to the front page.. the front page is also mobile browser friendly..

anyone have suggestions for good website design firms..

.

but theyre using the side entrance address to promote. im sure it helps bring people who dislike 1015 but some, esp new, people won't know that they just went into 1015 and had a good time. just trying to say it'll help the club a bit but in the long run its going to hurt it more than help it

Taj has his claws out!

I feel some bitterness there, lol.

BTW, NICE list of DJs...just dump van Helden

Bad idea. Half the main room would just go in the basement for the hard trance like the old days.
