When you buy a Linux OS, you're really paying for support for the free software.

edit: lol...he paid for 60 days worth of support

edit2: I was playing devil's advocate here (i downloaded ubuntu for my asus eee pc not too long ago)

I got a Mac (mini), but I don't think it's that much better than Windows tbh.

Yeah, it has some neat things like Expos, etc. but overall - same shit.

In fact, I'm planning on buying a laptop in Fall for school - and it def. won't be a MacBook, but rather something like Asus EEE 901.

You can get almost all the support you need from the Ubuntu forums. They've even got beginner n00buntu forums for linuxfags to ask their obvious questions about simple problems and the people there are always willing to answer them without any real grief. Paying for linux really defeats the purpose of it.

Dude seriously. I run Ubuntu full-time on my desktop. Whenever I have a question I just type it into Google and, nine times out of ten, the answers pop up with the first result being a thread on the Ubuntu forums.

Pay? Open source? Part of the concept is to not have to pay.

And these reasons (aside from OSX being the most pain-free and stable system that EYE have used in my life) are the ones that got me to switch.

Hardware is fantastic. (illuminated keyboard/built in camera/touch-pad advances)
Apple geniuses provide the best service I've ever had in my life.

do these apple geniuses blow you or something? The hardware is the SAME fuckin' hardware in your pc. The difference is that apple exclusively works on specific components, only. The only difference is the operating system and just because your ibook blows you doesn't make it a superior product, at least you haven't offered any solid arguments, especially not to justify a premium markup of TWICE the price for a comparable dell.

Generally people who are artsy buy macs because artsy software runs the best on them *debatable* and/or the best artsy software is made exclusively for them (logic) *debatable*. I bought mine for the same reason, and while it is debatable, it's still my reason.

You obviously haven't been reading very deeply if you think I haven't put out any points.

I have a MacBook Pro as well, not an iBook. It does not blow me.

And neither do the mac geniuses. Instead they send off my computer to get a new motherboard for free when the slightest mishap occurs. The sign-up/check-up/send-off/repair/send-back/pickup process took 4 days.

Why does everyone think I'm being an ignorant fanboy? Ffs, quote me and point out the stupidity

Because you're a fucking cock whose knowledge on anything significant is laughable. You can shove your MacBook Pro up your arse.
