Ask me if I care WHERE you live?

Posted by shaw on Jul-28-2008 04:45:

Do you care WHAT I live in?

Posted by shaw on Jul-28-2008 04:55:

i don't have friends and i do this sometimes. it sucks cock and i don't really go outside because of it. best to find a seat where you face the wall or in a corner so even if people stare you can't see them. also if you go to a park or something make sure to get a seat that looks at something rather than nothing and bring a book so you can pretend to read or mp3 player to listen to tunes and block out mad fags walking. alone is cool when you aren't forced to do lame shit like foreign countries and school and other shit

Self-conscious much?

Posted by Frenchie on Jul-28-2008 06:24:

Aw, c'mon. That was sad.

I know a great corner for you to join in though.

I travel a lot for work. Currently, I'm in Germany drinking every beer they make. If I had a choice, I would rather eat with other people because I enjoy conversations and listening to other's life experiences. Sometimes, usually the weekends, I eat alone. The main problem I have with eating alone is boredom. There is only so much observing and taking in my surroundings I can do without being, what I think is, rude. Usually I bring a book or customize my Crackberry - something to focus my mind onto.

I'll admit I feel a little self-conscious when I eat alone at high-quality restaurants. It's easy to say "Who cares?" when it's a pizzeria or a burger shack, but when it is a white table cloth, dim-light, $30+ entree place, yes I feel a little awkward. But I do it anyway because my love of food trumps any awkwardness. Also, being at extremely busy places, I feel bad for leaving an unused seat when other people are waiting but fuck it.

Posted by Cloudburst on Jul-28-2008 10:26:

I used to think it was ankward, but now I just don't care. I love food and I'm not much for talking while eating. I can talk afterwards, but during I like to just eat and enjoy.

eating is definitely a social experience.

i always kind of chuckle at the fatties i see eating by themselves at the casino buffets. then i get pissed cause they're so fat and i'm like, "PUT THE FORK DOWN FATTY"

Posted by jastiC on Jul-28-2008 11:15:

i enjoy eating alone and staring at the people who watch me. checking out their girlfriends and licking my lips at them

Posted by ScuL on Jul-28-2008 11:26:

to be honest I share the feeling that it can be annoying at times. I also travel a lot for work and it just feels weird to go into a restaurant and occupy a table by yourself. going to restaurants is mostly a social experience and I have the feeling that other dinner guests don't really understand why you would go there alone.

maybe that's more of a European culture thing, it highly depends on the country you are in as well. for instance Dutch people are the kings of stare. they will give penetrating looks and judge the people around them into the tiniest details. this is also the reason why in Amsterdam all restaurants and pubs have their seats and tables facing the street, so the guests can check out people passing by while eating.. lol.

I usually try to pick a spot that gives me an overview, I don't mind facing ppl its just boring if u have nothing else to do than eat and nobody to talk to. at least watching ppl or checking out girls can be worthwhile hehe

so it's true. if you're not dutch, you're not much.

They weren't starting at you, mainly because eating alone is a perfectly normal behavior. Seems like you've got some MAJOR insecurities. Good luck with that.

Maybe he's really, really ridiculously good looking.

i like eating alone. then i dont have to pretend i'm listening or care about whatever my company is talking about. i'm one of those "lemme alone i'm eating" types.

I have to admit I used to be exactly like this. But then again at the time I had a job, and for it had to dress like Captain Nerd, so I could never feel comfortable walking around the town like that. :\

I've become so much more relaxed since then, lol.

What part of the world are you from?

When I was in Germany last summer (Heidelberg specifically) I loved leaving the madness of the student residence and chilling alone at outdoor cafes and watching all the crazy tourists and gypsies

I enjoy eating alone I dont have to worry about anyone that way.
