Also, if you really like Voorn, I may have some other stuff you'd really enjoy.

well yeah im new to this forum but not new to electronic music. i thought today it might be fun to check out a trance forum especially since TA is quite a big one, but to be honest it is quite boring and most of the threads in the german subforum are not exactly a thrill. its all about that armin guy and all the other internet-djs and dead mice you never get to see in a real "electronic subculture"-club. so after 10mins i landed in the luciano and joris threads

im more into dub techno (for example maurizio stuff) and ricardo-house and i like strange samples and other mindfucks in music. maybe im gonna upload a set tomorrow... but your set is really nice so far (im only 11mins in) i like the strings atm, its not cheap and not obvious finger-pointing music, you know.

The one nice thing is that you will find a lot (and I mean a LOT) of TA's outside of the German forum who are into the very same music you are.

holy shit, i'm only 19 minutes in and I fucking love this.

I've always been a fan of your sets, but I have no basis for comparison because your stuff always seems fresh to me.
your first set, a while back.. i got crazy baked and listened to your frisky particles (i think( like 5 times over)

I got past that little techy track with the crazy spanish guitar (ting ding dedeed deeeeeeeding) riff, I JUST heard that track in someone elses mix but I dont remember what..

I can tell you exactly where I was in the car when I heard it though.

cheers

I dont give a DAMN about tracklists, I just listen to sets, and I go "oh fuck, this is what it sounds like to just put something on, like an old record or burned cd with no label)
just a montage of sounds, I am going to find you a nice techy mix i contactly listen to, because i only know the enviroment it was mixed in.. i dont know a goddamn single track in there, and for that it amazes me.. that is hiow I keep electronic music fresh to me.
fuckit, im not a dj, why the hell would i want to trainspot a mix.. (well, i know whyyyyyy, people are greedy, needy people and they feel better about themselves)

edit: oh oh, I know where I heard that track.

lol.

Anyways, thanks for the track Rob. Interestingly BP just added the Alena version a couple months ago. Loved that track since the Oakey EM, but this is a nice update for my new tastes in music.

Original > all, though...

Awesome.

Absolutely love reading stream of consciousness stuff like that. In any event, hope you enjoyed the rest of the mix, and massive thanks for taking the time to share some thoughts.

Yeah - it's so weird though, because the only part of the lyrics in the Rocco track that are shared with the Alena tune are "Turn it Around Baby" - I'm fairly sure all the rest of the lyrics are different.

Bah. EDM is rife with so many "covers"/"remixes"/etc. that it just gets hard to keep track. I definitely rocked out to the Alena version back in the day like any proper Oakenfold trancer would - and that was definitely why this one struck such a chord with me as well. I just wish I knew more about it's initial release and whether or not Rocco views it as a cover or what.

hah! I'm glad my comments are amusing. At least I have proper punctuation and grammar, minus the trailing letters.

It's the only way my fingers can move as fast as my brain, when I really don't have to compose.

So, i'm not going to trainwreck your thread, it's already on page two. Here's a link to that mix.

Home, blazed. Going to try this again.

hey man i liked your set. some tracks are outstanding, i suppose you dont find them on the beatport charts, so - good selection and worth a listen i was listening to this while sitting on my sofa and i repeated the tracks in the "50s" several times, i liked the mood.

a bit of criticism: i found some of the tracks slightly over the top, you know, when theres a good flow but suddenly you think "huh where am i, what is this?". but this is not a too big problem. if this was on cd id probably consider buying it

Thanks for sharing that set - tuning into it now. As far as your comments, I was dead serious - I love reading stuff like that. It basically just seems like a straight up reaction to the set, and that's probably the most honest kind of commentary one can get, so thank you.

Really glad you enjoyed it duder

RE: Where I get my tunes - to be honest - sometimes I do find stuff on, or at least because of, Beatport charts. It's not the number one way I go about getting music, but every so often there are going to be tunes out there that have a fair bit of commercial success, but I still absolutely love. I really try to find a balance between the old and new, and am fortunate to have a lot of people who clue me into all sorts of new good music each week. I've said it already in this thread, but I would honestly be nowhere without the help of a lot of other people - many of whom are TA's.

RE: Criticism - absolutely understand, and without trying to sound like I'm rationalizing anything, I'll just say that I thought the kind of varied, "ADD" nature of this set fit with the erratic nature of Hunter S. Thompson. Definitely know it won't be for everyone, but was definitely working towards finding that sweet spot between consistency and diversity.

Thanks again fellas

Iplay: I'm a huge Incubus fan.
From yesterday, I knew you meant "the" Aqueous Transmission. I just wasn't there yet.

Thrilling.

I'm very upset about it, but I will try to clear my mind of this outlandish principal.

RIP syd

I definitely like them both and have been toying around with each lately.

I'm still listening to this one, Rob. Now that I've been able to give it my full attention from the beginning to the end, I appreciate it quite a bit more. I love the flow of this puppy.

Thanks for posting up the track list as well. Some real gems in here.

Glad you're enjoying it duder - hope this one has a bit of staying power for some folks.

Loved it, listened to it probably 6 times or so over my trip to the beach. Loved the flow, the style, everything. It really reminds me of all the different promos of yours I've heard, so I guess that's good in the sense that you've definitely got your own sound and groove going.

I cracked the biggest grin ever when I heard Aqueous Transmission come in, one of my favorites.

Posted by Frenchie on Aug-14-2008 04:43:

On my way back to Toronto this week-end I was listening to this on the plane when the guy beside me tapped me on the shoulder. Thinking he was going to say " turn your music down ", to which I would have said " go fuck your mom", he said " your music sounds great, who is it?" So we listened to it together. Aww. Ace set.
