I've always liked slower bpm's ever since I was 15.

To be honest, I think you just came up a few years after the rest of us and kind of caught the "lower BPM" wave at a younger age - at least that's my current theory

Though I'll say that for me, anything over 135-138 even back in my trance crackering days was way, way too fast.

I don't think my preference in BPMs has changed at all. It's just that my tastes for electronic music have gotten a lot broader. I started out with just prog house, prog trance, and some epic trance, but eventually grew to like a bit of almost all electronic genres.

Although the BPM range for stuff I like has gotten a lot wider: I used to listen to stuff almost exclusively in the 125 - 138 range or so, but now I'll go both higher and lower than that.

Get this, I like dnb but I can't stand trance at most speeds.

I also hate it when people play electro house above 130.

Most of the D&B I enjoy doesn't feel like I'm being beaten over the head with a Sean Tyas kick drum for 10 minutes

I lump most modern trance and bad drum and bass in the same category of noises that are a lot like nails on a chalkboard.

i think that's because at it's core dnb is a half time beat

i always feel the half beat when i play dubstep or dnb.

i guess i don't listen to jump up or pendulum though lol. liquid dnb only

I've always thought this whole "tracks are made for the drugs" thing was a bit blown out of proportion. To some extent some music genres were indeed trying to fit the drugs in the beginning when they came up, but the way the music developed afterwards isn't as much about the drugs.

I'm sorry, but I really can't see it. I think it comes more from looking back at classic trance from the position of being surrounded by contemporary dance music. It can be easy to isolate classic trance and forget that there was so much concurrent stuff happening then. Because there is techno from the early 90s that sounds a lot like current tech-house and similar, much more than German trance does, but it's been largely forgotten.

When I was listening to your Domestic Technology mix, Rob, the thing it most sounded like to me was very early Future Sound Of London. It reminded me of some of the stuff from their first album. There was a lot of similar techno in that era that we largely forget today.
