Digi, Don't you just love the one-line respond to your five paragraph post?
Oh and you got a bonus video too
so cute...
Hey plaxx
Here are some fun marketshare statistics for you.
Windows: 90.66%
OS X: 7.86%
SHUT THE FUCK UP, GODDAMNIT
For all those ppl that keep harping on how the ads were created by CS3 installed on a Mac and why's it's irrelevant to MS' image is that it's more so on the ad agency. As one that worked in an ad agency there's usually a pretty clear "eat the dog-food" policy on things like using your client's products.
The fact that most creatives/post processing types are used to the Mac platform is pretty indicative of the field (did I just stereotype...?)and is much of why the files made it up on site as they did. What's missed on all of this is that MS really isn't to blame, but rather the agency for allowing it to happen. Like it or not, if I have Brand X as a client, you generally shouldn't be allowing direct competitor's Brand Y products to be showing up to briefings, meetings, etc., or anywhere in the process. If you're insistent on using Brand Y, maybe you should be sure that it doesn't get out that you did. Put it this way, do you think that any of the creative types or account types showed up to any of the client meetings with MS with a Mac in tow? In the end, that was the agency dropping the ball.
As for Plaxx, I'm sorry, you're an idiot. I use Mac/Windows/Linux in my job and I can say I've crashed all 3 and I've been able to run stably on all 3. A Windows user inherently has more ability to cause a crash in their system due to the fact that the vast majority of poorly written apps will show up in the Windows pool of software. Does this mean all Mac software is well written? No, it just means that there aren't nearly as many to choose from and install to compromise your system stability. It's really a matter of statistics which, if you haven't figured out yet, is the art of skewing numbers to make your point.
I don't know how many times I've had to deal with Mac updates essentially break things and cause apps to stop functioning properly. Does that happen in Windows? All the time. But don't feed me this bull of shit just working better in Macs. Ask anyone who had to deal with a decent number of computers how quickly they upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. I can tell you very few did immediately because it broke so many things from working. How did Vista fare? Not much better. How many more users did it potentially affect? No wonder you hear more shit about Vista sucking balls and being a pain to upgrade. (and for the record, Vista isn't that bad, but it's definitely not great, but it's no where near as unusuable as the fanbois make it out to be)
The only thing I will agree on is use what is comfortable and works, because when it all comes down to it more than 98% percent of users are useless when the GUI is gone. The underlying kernel doesn't give a shit whether you like Aqua or Aero, Gnome or KDE, it will only do what you tell it to. If you poorly tell it do something, it will perform it poorly. I found it ironic that despite the "ease of use" factor for Macs, I actually get the most amount done by sticking to the terminal, and found I was able to configure the OS more to my liking only through the terminal (why the hell can I not show all hidden system files in Finder without dropping to the terminal and manually changing the setting?).
As for my take on the ad campaign, not that it matters, it was nice to see Seinfeld back on the tv, and the I'm a PC ad was a clever way to incorporate a response to the Mac ads. I'm guessing that most ppl born later than say 1990ish didn't really get the Seinfeld stuff at all, but then again, maybe it's the fact that I still make an effort to stop on Seinfeld repeats when I come across them that I liked them. One thing I did get a sense of is that it's not really aimed at converting Mac users to Vista, but rather trying to get existing XP users to consider Vista in a new light.

lol cale
I have Vista on both my Laptop and my PC. I don't have a single complaint yet. Love everything about it, simple to use and runs smooth.
It seems to me some people resist change when all it would take is just took a few moments to learn something new and they'd realize that it actually isn't worse, it's much better.

hahaha I find it funny when nerds have online war...
ok, i work for apple.
somewhere in an office, somewhere in ontario. all i will say.
i love macs, very "easy" to use, very "fun" to use. not alot of bugs, not alot of stress. very nice os, great bunch of computers. AND, i own 2 macs and 1 pc. that being said!! lets get real.
when u compare a mac with a pc.
assuming your someone that is not a moron, macs suck. sorry, thats just how it is.
mac users can argue all they want, they got a sweet ass o/s, cant deny jobs that.
but there are just so many more options, and so many more pros with a pc/windows.
quick fact over 90% of computer users on this planet uses a windows based operating system.
is 90% of the world stupid for using pcs? too poor to buy a mac? dont know any better?
maybe the 10%, oh sorry.. not even 10% more like 6% of mac users know something that the rest of us dont.
yeh its personal choice and everyone uses a computer for different things. i get that.
but big picture wise, pcs kick macs in the ass.
in reality, windows Runs the fuckin world.
anyway, ive said my piece.
I also work for apple (tech support), and have this much to say:
There are so many problems with mac's its not even funny. You think they have less problems than PC's? The call center I work at just hired 200 new desktop / portable (apple hates them being called laptops) agents for tech support. This by the way, is only for the United States.
To the poster who said "I just plug it in, and it works". Unfortunately this is not true. To correctly set up your airport wireless connection for example, you are supposed to run the Network Assistant AND network diagnostic inside of system preferences before it will truly work. Also, I get numerous calls a day asking why the mail application just doesn't work.
Phrases I get atleast 10 times a day during my calls:
- "I was using mail just fine before, but all of a sudden now it says I can't send mail?"
- "I'm trying to set up my wireless network, and my computer can't connect to my existing network but my laptop connects to it fine"
- "My printer is plugged into my router, but I don't see it on my mac but my laptop connects to it fine"
- My computer starts up to a white screen with an apple logo and a spinning gear and it won't start up!"
- "whenever I try to wake my computer from sleep, it freezes up and I have to reboot!"
- "I get this weird black screen with a "power" symbol on it and it says I have to restart my computer in 6 different languages!"
- "my computer doesn't start up! it just beeps 3 times over and over again!"
...
The list can go on and on.
There are just as many problems on mac's as there are for PC's. If you are having problems with your PC its probably because you're downloading something you shouldn't or visiting websites that you shouldn't.
The only reason it "seems" like mac's have less problems is due to Apple's incredible advertisement campaign, customer service, and their sleek looking "user friendly" OS. Truth be told, there's a lot less control given to the user on a mac than on a PC.
For example, try to make your right mouse button do something other than "primary click, secondary click, expose, spaces".
All they have are the votes of the "not so tech savvy" because its like giving a fully loaded Mercedes to an every day joe. They'll go "oooh, ahhh, LOOK A SCREEN WITH DVD" but really have no idea if the performance really is as good or better than a less luxurious car.
Also, the hardware parts in a mac are IDENTICAL to the ones you can buy for a PC at half the price. For the guy who said you have to go to Korea to get drivers..well you're buying the wrong parts. Or the company you bought it from screwed you over.
Buy an ASUS motherboard, and you get drivers from the global ASUS website. www.asus.com
Nvidia or ATI video cards, exactly the same as Mac's. www.nvidia.com/www.ati.com
Corsair RAM - another global company to get support from. www.corsair.com
Western Digital / Maxtor Hard drive's - All mac hard drive's are by WD or Maxtor nowadays. www.maxtor.com
Creative Labs Sound Card - www.creativelabs.com
logitech keyboard/mouse - www.logitech.com
Okay, show me the Korean on those websites. Please. Funny thing is, half the stuff listed above are used in Mac's also, but are 5x the price.
(did you know, that adding 4GB or RAM on a mac is a $500 upgrade?..here's the "PC" alternatives: http://www.canadacomputers.com/inde...&id=RAM.346.983)
Mac's are "cool", they're "slick" they are "the in thing", but any arguement you make, they are not better than PC's.
Software wise, it could be a different story. Imaging, photography, video editing, this is where mac's excel..but not because of the mac computer, but because of the software supporting the mac. The hardware as much as you want to pull out links to other websites saying otherwise, is exactly the same. The lab which contains two Powermac G5's, 4 imac's, 3 macbook pro's, 2 Mac Pro's, and 1 eMac all with their guts hanging out in all their glory, are sporting Nvidia, Corsair, Maxtor, and the likes inside.
Believe what you will, get a mac, but as I tell all my callers, "it's a really good idea to get the Apple Care Protection Plan, you never know when your computer might not turn on. I've had it happen 2 days after purchase, to 2 years after purchase."
To all you Mac users:
Talk to you soon.

Where's your proof that Adobe CS3 runs better on Windows than Macs? Having used Adobe CS3 many times on Vista and getting the error "Windows has shut down unexpectedly" or "Adobe Illustrator has shut down unexpectedly" has put me off it completely. Windows has shit font management, it cant deal with video files unless you have 300 codecs installed, and it corrupts PSDs. Adobe After Effects CS3 runs BETTER on Windows XP than it does on Vista, Microsofts premier OS. |
Hay guyz, let's just all use Linux, k?
i also work for mac, but im not saying what planet.
i have this to say:
being able to minimize and open windows by dragging them to a corner and they disappear > anything a PC can offer
