both. and both are not fun.

if i drive home i have to leave no later, than 2 or 3 - otherwise i'm taking my life in my hands. i've had some scary drives home.

otherwise, i have to stay over - and then the whole next day is a write off because you don't even wake up until the afternoon, at which point you don't want to do anything but watch tv. not to mention trying to park your car overnight in toronto - barf.

Montreal isn't that good either, especially with Stereo closed. I would still move to Montreal because I love the city more than from the party aspect, but with Stereo closed, Montreal is in a weird position.

Case in point, when people are booking the caliber of artists like David Morales and Victor Calderone at MILLENNIUM, then you know the city has problems. Saw VC @ that spot 2 weeks ago and it was so brutal! The club is in a MALL...A MALL...in the suburbs right next to a Zellers. The soundsystem is terrible. The crowd is suburban...with no interest in who the headlining DJ is. Opening DJ is playing hip hop remixes. A bright club with go go platforms. Horrible. That club sets Montreal back big time...

As for Toronto, I think there are waaaaaaaay too many new locals being booked, not because they are any good at playing music, rather they can bring out a crowd and some places are slow so the owner is cool with booking what I call, "promoters that spin". There's a lot of promoters that spin in this city, calling themselves DJs and it's driving me crazy.

I'm not knocking all new talent, don't get me wrong, but there was just this explosion of new DJs getting booked in some pretty good venues. Some people haven't even paid dues, aren't technically sound, etc. I don't want to hear someone that is hooked up spin, I want to see someone talented, or at the very least, someone who knows what they are doing...

With the age of computers mixing for people and facebook invites it's only going to get worse in some aspects. People inviting me out to see so and so spin and I'm like "who?" And this person is one of the headliners???

In the same time, I think Toronto has a better (talking established wise) scene then New York and Montreal. I travel to Montreal often and am very up to date with New York, but we still have it better than those places right now. Pacha NYC, ugh...Millenium, Montreal...yikes...we at least have Guvernment and CiRCA...and look at October coming up...retarded, retarded parties on the agenda...

for f*cking REAL! I seriously hate the "large club" scene here. NYC gets tons of talent with no where to put them. sad, really.

Posted by spolitta on Oct-01-2008 01:53:

This thread is very unusual....8 pages of the so called "Scene whining" without the usual business men and those who pick up their by-weekly paycheck from the guv, insisting that you don't know shit about good music and don't have a clue what's going on in the town

Posted by Yohan on Oct-01-2008 01:54:

You guys can have the Docks. Sad really to see an awesome club not being used properly

Posted by mickmack on Oct-01-2008 02:16:

i've felt this way for about a year now. the good thing is that the majority of my friends feel the same way as i do. i've only been to an all night party twice this year. i still love my day time parties though.

i'm with you guys on the whole commuting to party thing. i've been doing the drive from hamilton to toronto for as long as i've been partying and it just doesn't seem worth it alot of the time anymore.

by no means am i out of the scene completely but i am extremely selective of the events that i go to. it also takes me alot to get excited to go out.

so for me, i don't think it's as much about the crowd or the scene changing as the fact that i'm just getting older.

Informative post.

The bolded text is very true.

There are tons of free outside events in and around Toronto such musics as "African music, Salsa, Jazz, Reggae which I am also, Cherry Beach events were awesome, Latin music festivals, and many more... Toronto has wonderful Jazz musicians and Jazz culture though...

Everything around us is tend to change so are we... Since you were from Turkey, did you try to listen Baba Zula and Mercan Dede in past months...???? Why not...

Basically, Toronto scene sucks with clubs...

Actually I listen to all sorts of music from all sorts of cultures. I have a very extensive music background. I also have vast music knowledge and can read music.

I've listened to both Baba Zula and Mercan Dede, I actually went to the Mercan Dede show which was here in Toronto last year.

I am specifically reffering to the EDM scene not the actual music. I think people mis-understood.

Uh, Chus and Ceballos just a couple of weeks ago? Hector Romero about a month before? And basically all of the well-known locals played there once or twice this summer. What are you whining about now?

I thought Romero and all the DJs except C&C played at the Next Level which is not the main room at the Docks?

You mean the Solarium? It's still the Docks, and it's a way better summer venue.

it has nothing to do with how shitty the Toronto Scene is....its more to do with maturing then anything else. Everyone will go through this stage...some people will never go clubbing again and some will come back with a new look at clubbing.

When I was about 24 I stopped clubbing for almost three years and one day I just got the urge to go out again. That lasted for about two years and then I stopped again for a year. Then when I was 30 the bug hit me again and now I am tired of it again.
