if anything nascar is a much easier to relate to sport than f1, which is so extravagant and most of its fanbase so snobby it makes me want to vomit.

don't shit on nascar when you dont know much about the spot

oh and..

Well yes, I was just talking shit... that was the point

If you want to take an actual argument out of my pretentious sounding statement, it would be that from an engineering point of view, F1 is superior.
(I'd say that the budget differences alone would be enough to justify this... +the KERS thing you quoted. There's also the 2009 nascar testing ban etc.)

I'll admit that whether that makes it a better sport or not is entirely subjective... Someone who cites driver ability as the heart of a motor sport will tell you that's what ruins it... If you talk to an engineering student who competes in formula SAE, he'll tell you for him, yes

Posted by Allied Nations on Nov-18-2008 19:22:

thats what we do here! talk shit!

nascar is about doing the best you can with what you have and f1 is about pushing the limits

both are extremely high tech regardless

from an engineering view f1 is more advanced, for sure- but there is still quite a lot learned from nascar engineering that in some cases can end influencing cars on the road

while the same is true for f1, the trickle down takes a lot longer and the cars affected have a much smaller demographic

Posted by djlemeir on Nov-18-2008 21:25:

f1 = glamour jetset euro champagne
nascar = not-glamour hick texan beer...

do the math
montreal = fail

Posted by malek on Nov-18-2008 21:39:

Montreal = Gros Moncton

Sorry for insulting Moncton by comparing it to Montreal

The grand prix crowd is really not that sophisticated as evidenced by some of it's supporters here.

ecclestone's job is primarily to sell a brand to the highest bidder all the while watching over f1's net worth...it's on the verge of what we can now coin: the sophomore jinx!

you turn your back on the people that got you there only to realize that these new associations didn't really pan out cause you were blinded by lust...you then do your best to rekindle those former relationships and everyone is better off cause of it.

the fans realize how much they missed the product.

the athletes realize how much they miss cities that are into what they do, where it's actually ingrained into the culture of that location even though they might not nececarily be the richest...the victorious owners dig in and vow to never let anybody mess with what they have and the community backs them @ a feverish pace.

advertisers love communities.

owners love advertizers.

everyone's happy.

until this actually happens,

FUCK YOU MAYOR TREMBLAY AND THE QC GOV FOR ACTUALLY HAVING THE NERVE TO GO ON TV AND SAY THAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE REALLY, REALLY WANT!!

FUCK YOU ECCLESTONE FOR BEING TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE AND SELLING YOUR SOUL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER!!

AND THE BIGGEST FUCK YOU IS RESERVED FOR THE NOUVEAU RICHE OF THE MIDDLE EAST...FUCK YOU AND YOUR FICKLE MINDED GLOBE TROTTING WAYS!!

Posted by elFreak on Nov-25-2008 13:27:

a bigger fuck you goes to ryan obyrneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

fucking purse stealing pansy!

Let me say this again, ti-maire tremblay is the biggest looser ever, he has the guts of showing his face crying he has no money (6m$ a year) while pissing away millions on fucking useless things like bike paths and studies right and left.

For god's sakes, 6 million! Anyone remember seeing an electoral promise costing less than 6m$ ?!?! That's how small that figure is for our govt.

yeah dude, they have removed thousands of parking spaces along streets and either built or traced bike paths all over. Do you think those parking spaces didn't generate money for the city?

fucking hippie city

x100

6mil is nothing for a city the size of montreal. I dont even want to know how much money is pissed away on studies, beurocracy, city workers that do nothing, etc. I cant believe this guy is our mayor.

considering the way people drive here and how the police really dont give a fuck about it id say they are fucking necessary

just because malik isnt your everyday cyclist doesnt mean its not a good idea, plus with the community bikes set to launch next couple years (i think) we need the bike paths a lot.

and i highly doubt it was the bike paths which tipped the scale

the city pisses away a lot of cash on stupid shit, but dont fuck with my bike paths bitch!!!

the bike path on cote ste-catherine is the worst fucking thing to ever happen in this city

when they do a bike path the first thing to do imo is that they should at least adjust the lights, ******s...

less cars leads to less gas emissions and less of that sendentary lifestyle which leads to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, etc. In the long run this saves taxpayers money in health care costs. It sucks now but the argument/benefit has many sides to it, IMO

yeah, if it's poorly engineered, it defeats the purpose, imo.
