For the record, however, I do not buy the "pizza is pizza" argument.

There is a lot of shitty pizza out there, far more than good stuff. In fact, I had some for lunch today.

Fucking Sal's.

In northern California there is this "take-n-bake" place that makes fucking delicious pizzas.

We actually have a couple of those in town here that are also pretty good - though at least one of them is a bit overpriced IMO.

If anyone was going to ask me what the greatest pizza I've ever had is, however, it's no contest....

Unbeatable.

Posted by lcid on Oct-08-2008 17:17:

it's still NY-style pizza regardless of where it's from.

Sbarro... now that's real NY pizza.

Yeah some locations are overpriced. It all depends on the area. But for a "take-n-bake" it is quite good. I wish they had thinner crust, but the crust is very delicious.

LOL that stuff is pretty good for what it is.

Posted by lcid on Oct-08-2008 17:22:

i like a lot of bad pizza too -- California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza, Trader Joe's frozen pizza... and Papa John's on occasion.

but i will not go near Sbarro.

Posted by RJT on Oct-08-2008 17:22:

Maybe it's the fact that I worked approximately 50 yards from a Sbarro for 3 years, but man oh man do I ever think that stuff is utter shit.

Limp dick crust, generally old slices that wind up lukewarm, and way, way overpriced for fast food.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-08-2008 17:23:

it serves its purpose.

there is way worse pizza than that.

it is called Toronto.

Awesome.

And as far as food court pizza goes, even though I generally detest pan/Chicago style pizza, I'll take Rocky Rococco's over Sbarro any day.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-08-2008 17:27:

this thread has inspired me to put a frozen dr oetker pizza in the oven for lunch.

for a frozen pizza it is pwn.

Toronto has the worst pizza i have had in a any city i have ever been to, and i have eaten a lot of bad pizza in a lot of cities.

some places even have buy 1 get 2 free.

this says it all.

Posted by lcid on Oct-08-2008 17:29:

this thread is evil.

i know there is zero chance for me getting good pizza within the next 5 days... and that breaks my heart.

CPK is OK. Their crust sucks.

Overpriced is an understatement. $8 for a fucking slice of pizza and a drink!? Fuck that.

I'm playing Thursday night in Madison about 2 blocks from Pizza di Roma.

Just a thought.

Edit: And did I miss something - are you going back home in 5 days?

Posted by Frenchie on Oct-08-2008 17:39:

Ew pizza. When I'm God, I'll banish pizza.

That said, I do like a good Hawaiian pizza.

Posted by iammesol on Oct-08-2008 17:40:

You will never ban za, Tricia. Never.

if i didn't have class and laundry and zero money for gas i'd seriously consider it.

nah, not going back home. i am broke and i don't get paid until Friday and then i'll be in Chicago for the weekend... and i'd rather eat McDonalds with DJ Row than eat Chicago-style pizza.
