You ever see him on Jon Stewart?? I honestly loved the guy from his appearances on there. But alas...he is a politician after all.

nobody cares abt spelling or grammar while using the internet especially in chat rooms as well as other forums

plus, the internet has got its own sorta spinoff language

Vid my buddy just sent me that relates

I would also like to say that its true the American population is generally dumb, however, its not entirely their fault, the government is to blame.

If you further your research you will see that the school system in the states is among the worst in the entire world. Many third world countries have higher math and language scores.

The American government on the other hand probably has some of the smartest people in the world as they are shaping the sheep bearing county into a world powerhouse. Of course America wouldn't be the world leader if it weren't for the use and disposable of its people.

The government does not care about their people in any way shape or form. Look at the health system, poverty rate, unemployment rate, murder rate, drug use, obesity rate and abortion rate. They are all signs of an unhealthy society, who is fearful and gullible.

Why would the government want its own people to be weak and brittle?
Its simply easier to get funding and recruitment for the national and private military forces. Once they are broken they will listen.

trying not to get to heavy lol, this might help...

My friend's driver here in China saw an Arabic man praying on a mat and called him "Al Qaeda"....does that make most Chinese dumb and insecure?

Sorry but but its true, so I cant see how i'm being ignorant.
If you would like me to elaborate further (more than my previous post) let me know.

btw, you are comparing one incident in china with one guy and what he saw once, to me and years of research and proof to back it up....

Or how about because they're an easy target that you won't get in trouble for publicly hating (because they look like you and nobody would ever call you a racist for doing so).

There are MANY other groups in this world who affect things in just as significant as a way but if anybody ever unleashed anti-Americanesque commentary they would be branded a racist.

It is quite evident that short forms and acronyms are far more precedent than anything else when it comes to communicating online. As long as someone understands what you are trying to say, the last thing they are worried about is essay style writing unless the topic at hand directly correlates to the English language.

You are both (incorrectly) conflating the disparate subjects of spelling, grammar, sentence structure, shorthand, and writing style.

Shorthand is always accepted within its applicable domain (calling out someone for writing "LOL" or "IMHO" would be ridiculous). And it's generally accepted that an informal writing style will be used in an informal setting (for instance, I just started a sentence with a conjunction - whoopie shit! And I also elided several commas, and I routinely end sentences with prepositions, horror of horrors).

Spelling and grammar are not components of a specific writing style, and certainly not tied to formal writing. They represent basic literacy. Piss-poor writing may eventually be understood by the reader, but not as readily as clean writing and often with more risk of misinterpretation. More to the point, it simply makes one appear uneducated and lazy, because every individual is taught these skills from an early age and [ostensibly] uses them on a regular basis. It's no different from choking out the word "nucular" in speech.

Simply because many, or "the majority" of people seem unable or reluctant to write with an appropriate level of care and patience does not mean it reflects any less poorly on them. Not that this is actually true - the majority of people on this forum and other forums write with varying degrees of formality, but generally with a coherent sentence structure and without horrible flaws like mixing up tenses or singular/plural possessives.

What's more, you're clearly implying with the words "continue to convey" that this "anal-retentiveness" constitutes some pattern of behaviour on my part, but unless you can produce some evidence, I have to respond that you are full of shit. There are only two types of instances where I bother to criticize:

1) When the writing is so incredibly poor that it actually imposes a mental tax on the reader for trying to comprehend it.

2) When the (poor) writing is fundamentally an attack on somebody else's intelligence or education. This is called hypocrisy. It smacks of the schoolyard antics of putting down someone else, generally someone who can't adequately defend him/herself on account of being weak or simply not present, in order to gain social standing or merely deflect negative attention away from oneself. It bothers me to see adults behave in this way.

As several others in this thread have now pointed out, it's clear from the comments that there is a great deal of hypocrisy in here, from people who are not much more rational or educated than the ones originally being put down. It's sad.

Your comparing an elephant(usa) with a sheep(middle east and asia).

No matter what the sheeps do their reactions wont kill hundreds and hundreds of people every month and on weekly basis.

Human life has no value these days the moment you step out of North America.

You have a good point with the school system. I know after 8 years of schooling in North Carolina how horrible it is (thank goodness for parents who care about the world around them!).
It's still rude to call most Americans dumb and insecure when there are plenty of intelligent people there. Sadly enough these intelligent people are often overshadowed by the ignorant ones.

I've met people in Canada just as ignorant as people down in the US. People who think anything that isn't the same as them is a "terrorist" and that every black person needs to "go back to Africa". Ignorance isn't just limited to national borders....

there is only one thing i learned in this thread:

then I ran into this gem...at first I thought Matt Damon's take was a little glamorous, being hollywood and all but then when I saw this I was like WTMF!!!! And Wolf Blitzer, trying to support his shareholders, that was pathetic, didn't expect that from him or maybe his job is on the line so it made sense...

sorry, but this statement jumped out at me. What does God fearing have to do with anything said in this thread so far?

As for the anger and hatred towards Americans. To put it simple, it's because we as Canadians are so deeply affected and bombarded by American media & culture (being that they're 10x our size in population)that we feel compelled to react and voice our opinions of their every decision. Kind of like watching The Hills and disagreeing on the decisions that the girls make. lol. Srsly.

From the day we're born, we (in Canada) are overwhelmed by anything and everything American. If the U.S. wasn't so imposing of their culture, beliefs, and way of life to everyone (especially the countries bordering it) and want us all to accept the American model, then they have to expect to hear our disdain and disagreement regarding their policies and population's way of thinking.

Unfortunately, it's like the BATTERED WIFE SYNDROME in the U.S....we're right outside the box so we get front row seats to the show. They're blinded and can't see past the walls/barriers placed by those in power who want to keep them in that state of denial/ignorance.

I don't hate Americans, because the majority of my family are Americans. I just hate ignorant mother f$#@%$@ in any and every country.

Thumbs down

Sad, sad, sad.

My best friend has been living down in Kinston, NC for past 10 years.

Just got an email from him today, and am pasting one part of it here. Its absolutely BRUTAL how f*cking racist ppl really are in much of the south still (well, NC for sure, at least; encountered it myself when ive been down there visiting him and others). . .

quote:

You should hear the election talk in the barbershop.. I have never heard the N bomb used so much about one person..

Wow. No words. Disgusting attitudes.

On another note: Truly amazing how much coverage we get on TV abt the US election up here. . . Swear its as much or MORE than on our own recent canadian one!

But then down south of the border (from his email again). . .

quote:
So Steve Harper ended winning ? I am amazed at the lack of news coverage over the Canadian election. I have to do google searches to find anything out!!

Huh. What a difference.
