I've heard quite a lot of material and whilst I don't love it I don't hate it either. It is just unremarkable.

Is it because the material is overhyped? overplayed? unoriginal? or something else?

Just ignore it in a few month it will be something else they are hating on. Not so long back it was sean tyas turn then before that it was tiesto majority of people that do it just enjoy jumping on a bandwagon and join in they probably dont like been seen as different by liking the artist.

i started disliking tyas on my own, without realizing he was hated. it was the excessive drumrolls. i'm still realizing that he, actually, is also hated around these parts.

tiesto looks ridiculous next to his armani ads and "some asian flutes, huh?" statement

also, armin is cool, but i hate the sameness of ASOT and the incessant "OMG-ness" of his fans, most of whom know nothing about EDM

does that confirms my coolness or what.

+ 1. IMO, alot of people that love/hate certain popular artists tend to be band-wagoners.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-16-2008 20:58:

a lot of don't know what you are talking about bandwaggoners on here.

another thread on this.

wooohooo.

Ah, "may" being the keyword.

Anyways, I don't hate deadmau5 at all. I think he's doing pretty damn well for himself and must be making enough from the music to be pretty set for a while.

Aside from that, I think his music is some of the most boring, gimmicky, uninteresting, creatively stangnant dance music being offered up right now. I can think of hundreds of other artists I'd rather play, listen to, dance to, or pay money to go see, not to mention have far more respect for. I don't aspire to ever be anything like deadmau5 or his music. Ever. By my own accounts I'm already far more succesful than he likely ever will be in the dance music circles I wish to belong to.

Posted by FCB_Fanatic on Oct-16-2008 21:26:

why opening a new thread? the other deadmau5 thread wasn't good enough anymore for bashing?

can this one even live up to the other thread? I really like that one

Yeah, that's the thing...

To the "jealousy card" folks in this thread, success = fame + money. Apparently nothing else enters into the equation. Deadmau5 may be successful, but 50 Cent has him beat by miles.

I for one have no time for assholes even if they make brilliant music. You really are a moron.

What would you do if you found out Hunter S. Thompson was an asshole when he was alive? Would you stop reading his publications? That's moronic to me. See it's all relative, my friend. Einstein said it a long time ago, however, you still seem unable to process this thought in your mind.

Fair point. I know he was an asshole, albeit an intelligent asshole. Just because I like his work doesn't mean I would have liked him personally. I just think it's a stupid thing to say that most people don't like artists once they become too popular.
With Deadmau5, I like a couple of his tunes, but I don't like him. Simple.

Yeah, and those people are what I like to call "stupid".

As has been discussed before, success is relative, and while we'd all love to do better monetarily, thats not all there is to it.

My idea of successful is where Matthew Dear or Radio Slave is at. Fixtures in the music scene, running labels, DJing, producing, and the ability to be exploring side projects at the same time.

the funny part about all of this is..

is that there is about 100 people who say they hate his productions/sets and dont stfu and pretty much everyone else (tens of thousands of people) who love his productions/sets and say nothing.

hilarious

It's what the internet is meant for.

I am pretty sure that when i first signed up for aol in the 90's it was for goat porn, not deadmau5.

To answer the original question pretty thoroughly, there's this:

I don't even know anyone who would really be offended by this - the ignorance, greed, and shear level of ego present should really do nothing but serve to show just how clueless he is, and how the "drama" that surrounds him is 100% his own creation and no one else.

Was that taken out of context or a joke of some sort? Poor poor attitude if it wasn't. Shame on this guy for completely bashing on his biggest fan base.

To be honest, it makes no difference to me whether he was "just joshin'" or if that's really how he feels (I suspect the latter) - people who do and say these kinds of thoughtless things do it solely for the attention.

It's incredibly unfortunate when the spectacle completely overshadows anything remotely music related, and even more so when the "musician" himself is the only source.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Oct-17-2008 16:49:

I don't get how people think he's an "asshole". I remember when he played at The Guvernment niteclub here in Toronto, I actually was up on stage next to him for a bit and told him to play The Longest Road remix. He got excited and told me he only had the dub version, and did play it later. In the interim he was laughing and having a good time, and having shots with people that he knew closely. Dj'ing wise, yes he played most of his stuff, BUT, he wouldn't just play his songs as is. He would do a lot of effects, looping etc. He was a very technically proactive DJ. Now this obviously does not translate to a better set, but I appreciated how he would do something extra with songs that people already knew.

Now maybe I'm biased since I live near Toronto, but I like a lot of his songs. I Remember, Move For Me, Longest Road Rmx, Not Exactly, Faxing Berlin are all good. But there's some songs which aren't good. I didn't like the Cafe Del Mar remix nor the Finished Symphony remix and Hi Friend is a little too much for me.

Overall I think he's good, but not amazing. I certainly don't hate him. I agree with ppl. who say that others just hate on him because he's big. Like look at how much hate Tiesto gets. It's mostly because it seems like the cool thing to do when the songs themselves aren't half bad.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Oct-17-2008 16:56:

Okay I just saw that article...that's pretty ridiculous for Deadmau5 to say for obvious reasons. It's not just about transitioning between songs, but creating a journey etc.

He plays alongside some big djs like James Zabiela and that's kinda ripping on him and others.

Can you blame him? He was "DJing" alongside Tommy Lee.
