Just because something is released under Soundpiercing or Anjunaeep doesn't mean it's not Armada/Anjuna...

I know, just didn't mention it. Just was wondering how the complete label list would look like and see if the statement of just a few would be correct.

A statement that 75% or so played are from the same labels or sublabels would be more correct IMO.

wow. so a whopping 25% are from other labels. That's what I call a diverse show!

Just calculate then how many tracks that would be.

Would Armin select tracks by looking at the label first or would it be that most tracks he likes (or his audience likes), happen to come from the same label and sub-labels?

To me it's kind of logical that he plays more from labels which release tracks which meet his taste.
I don't know any numbers but would these labels maybe also release much more tracks then other labels?

Yeah,

its quiet hard to detect 5 tunes in this list that I like. There arent even those tunes from the trance corner in the list I liked. Stuff like:

Joonas Hahmo - Cocktail Bar
Glenn Morrison - Blue Skies With Linda
Leon Bolier - Dnjepro (all other Bolier tunez are there, but not hios best lol)
Marcus Schossow - Crepuscolo

These 4 are the only tunez from the Anjuna/Armada/Spinnin-Corner I would normally would vote on, but as I took the time to look thru the lsi I voted these 5:

1. Pjanoo
2. Metaverse (Emery Remix)
3. Pandora (Blizzard Remix)
4. La Guitarra
5. Ocean Drive Boulevard

None of these 5 would be in my top 250 of the year lol.

Armin has people to pick the tracks for him, he's not the only one involved in ASOT tracklisting.

So yeh, his guys negotiate with the usual labels on deals, and then Armin plays whatever they got the best deal for.

That's quite an accusation. Do you have proof to back it up?
What kind of deals are we talking about here? Money?
Or "I play your track if you play mine"?

Posted by Unable on Nov-27-2008 12:48:

I'm not making any accusation, it's just perhaps an explanation as to why there's such a narrow spectrum of labels. Tracklisting for such a commercial show doesn't just involve listening to music and finding great tracks, otherwise you wouldn't need other people to help you.

Money wouldn't be involved, I highly doubt it would ever get to that point. (direct financial benefit anyway)

It's more all the label politics that goes on, Armin can't physically play a track which he hasn't received. He can't rip from youtube and play it, he has to be given a pre-release copy which means he needs permission from the producer/label.

At the end of the day people want to hear the most popular hits on ASOT so Armin's always going to want to play A&B tracks etc, but A&B want exclusive Anjuna exposure for a while but still want to reach a maximum audience so eventually they let others play them. Vice-Versa of course.

How often do you think Armin gets a track from an "unknown" producer/label and listens to it and thinks "oh this is cool I'll play this on ASOT".

dont understand how this track even makes it onto ASOT let alone in someone's pic for their top 5

the breakdown is ghey to the extreme maximum

WTE is actually probably one of the few decent tunes played on ASOT this year.

You're supporting 'Going Wrong' as one of the BEST tunes on ASOT?

Ehmm, he's not alone...just that I like this amazing version sooo much more:

Armin van Buuren & DJ Shah feat. Chris Jones - Going Wrong (Alex M.O.R.P.H. B2B Woody van Eyden Remix)

I'm still wondering if the spectrum of labels really is that narrow.

If e.g. 25% is not from the often used labels then it still would be 260 tracks in a year from other labels, not?

Posted by Neo95gt on Nov-27-2008 22:41:

Armin could really care less about labels. Obviously he's gonna play more tracks from ajuna, armada, etc since these labels get the majority of the big tracks and he's first in line for them. But he has said that he'll play anything he likes if it's sent to him or whatever. I think he does a great job at playing fresh new tracks every week.

Posted by IlanG on Nov-28-2008 05:30:

I don't know why i keep doing this every year...

1. Rapid eye - Circa Forever (Galen Behr & Orjan Nilsen Remix)
2. Markus Schulz - Daydream (Ronski Speed Remix)
3. Plastic Boy - Silver Bath (Glyn Waters Remake)
4. Ernesto Vs Bastian - Thrill
5. Thomas Bronzwaer - Certitude

+1
I think so too.

Posted by Unable on Nov-28-2008 12:38:

Oh come on, Armin does not play fresh tracks... He plays the big tracks everyone wants to hear, that all the other big shows play, and the tracks which will all end up at the top of beatport.

Most of the tracks he plays on asot are unreleased tracks hot from the production studio nobody has even heard of yet.

He has said in interviews that his taste is for "ambient weird stuff" but that he djs for the crowd, not himself.
