That had nothing to do with his set. That was just the sound-crew turning the bass to +20 for the headliner. They do it every week.

Nonono, I genuinely mean that essentially all the tracks he played, except perhaps a few in the last 30 minutes or so, had melodic breakdowns followed by hard drops with no melodic climax and zero chord progression after the kicks hit. In essence, he played tech-trance tunes with melodic breakdowns, as opposed to more typical hands-in-the-air fluffy-bunny trance like he played last time he was here.

Anyways, Jennifer crowd-whored for her whole set, waved her arms around, played a bunch of tracks with her vocals in them and sang along, and trainwrecked some more. The tunes were actually not that bad. But the act in the DJ booth was... sufficiently bad that it was funny. She trainwrecked about 40% of the time, I think (although I left around 6, so mayhaps she got better for the second half of her set...? :P)

I'll bet there WAS chord progression. You just couldn't hear it over the BOOM BOOM BOOM when the bass kicked in because Guv turns the bass dial to +20

Hahahah no. There were plenty of chord progressions in the last half hour when he switched from tech-trance to trance. The bass actually wasn't that bad; generally I just move around the dancefloor until I find a spot with acoustics that I like. There are some hot spots on the guv dancefloor where the bass really resonates; I tend to avoid those.

i noticed in some area's the bass was really loud and sounded like the highs were weak most of the night at guv, anyone else notice the same thing as me?

i don't hold myself out as someone who is worthy of criticizing world-class dj's but this is my take:

-can't believe rank 1 started at 11pm - i actually wanted to hear him and i caught some of his set on Z103 before i arrive - sounded pretty sweet

-i thought gareth emery was really good - he played some cheese but not over the top cheese. The sound levels were good and it seemed like everyone around me had a good time. I thought his style was tasteful and flowed seamlessly for the most part

-menno started off decent but I can't really comment - consistent with what most people said, the bass was retarded loud. I was with some friends by the stair/washroom area and it sounded terrible. I tried to hear the tracks and from what I could hear, the track selection was decent. That being said, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since I've seen him play well before.

GUV sound techs should not fuck with the bass so much - it absolutely ruins a great set when all you can hear(and feel) is bass...

Overall - i though the crowd was better than usual (no hostility, less pushing compared to usually, and slightly more room to dance.). I definetly thought it was worth my $20 bucks

As a side note - i brought some friends who don't actually listen to trance and had never (ever) visited guv before - THEY WERE BLOWN AWAY BY THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND (before menno) and the vibe of the club...it made me realize that so many of us take guv for granted...it really is a special treat we shoudl all cherish

Definitely not. How often do you actually go, because from reading reviews and roll calls, it does not seem like very often.

It mainly depends on the DJ playing, and if they bothered to tweak the sound the way they want. Yes, usually during MO's sets, the bass and volume are too high. But, the good headliners will make sure the sound is good.

Rank 1
I got into the club around 11:45 he was just starting
what can you say about this guy he alway's put's on a
great show his set was not bad everyone was enjoying it
and having a good time for a long ass nite.. He played a few
of my fav tunes like And Then Chakalaka.. He's set was not up
to pair in my book i guess it had to do with opening up so early which i
understand. When he played Marco V - Coma Aid
i never heard this track in a club be for and i have say WOW
such a huge tunee..

Gareth Rmery
Holy shit this guy right fucking here was incredible
his set was just amazing this was my second time
seing him i saw him a few month's back in Miami for WMC
so i new im going to enjoy his set...The track's he played wow Vampire
gareth emery Remix, blueprint, his mixing was just
sick the guv need's to bring him back really soon... Whe he
drop Formentera What the crowd just whent one of my
fav tune's was hoping he would play Metaverse oh well
there's alway's next time... I got to chat with him after
he was done i ask him so what do you think of the guv he's like
fucking awesome i really love this place can't wait to come back ....

Thx Gareth

Menno De Jong
He played a good set but did not like some of the tracks he
played like As The Rush Comes, Apologize svd bootleg mix, which
i hate omg what a shit tunee.. But he played some nice
classics binary finary, Saltwater, circa forever, etc etc...
The track that got me pumped from his set was madagascar
richard durand remix, he also played marco v coma aid
after hearing Rank 1 playing this track i'm like holy shit what a fucking choooon...
I enjoy Menno's set this was my 3rd time seing him i always have a good time...

Thx Menno

Jennifer Rene
I been waiting a long time to see her play at the guv i was soo excited
let me just say that i dont give to shit's what you guy's have to say about
her and her set she played awesome luved the opener fine without you.
BIG FUCKING DEAL if she's signing as she's djing don't see anything wrong
with that so get over it. The mixing was off a little bit when she played the
second track but after that everything was on cue. Another thing every dj
has some sort of style that make's them feel comfortable and feel the energy of
the crowd. If that's her style then so be it i don't see why you guys are complaining.
Because all dj's have their own signature! like Armin's famous air plane pose etc etc.
Rene was having the time of her life great big smile most of the nite hand's in the air
which i don't see the problem in that she was really excited to play at the guv.
Anyways i dont want to get into a huge deal about her performances everyone
has there own opinion's. As for me i luved her set she killed it <3 <3 <3 the track's she
played where awesome 8 Wonders - eventuality, in out of love, richard durand remix,
perfect agnelli and nelson remix, <3 <3 speed the perspective space markus schulz mashup,
helsinki scorchin alex morph remix, sean tyas -lift
I was really happy with her set she did a fantastic job...

Thx again Jennifer

It was awesome seing everyone again
Veronica glad you made it out bc you would of miss a really good party
Nada GREAT seing you again we always have loads of fun when were partying wooot luv ya <3
Del was nice meting you my friend
