At least on the one with the Red Bull booth, you can actually hear the treble being rammed up when he twists the knob. Sounds awful though.
However...he's playing a mixmag CD. Listen at the vocal that kicks in around the 0:15 mark...at 0:20 you can hear "MIXMAG!". What a fucking joke.

LOL at his wikipedia page.

"Recently he has also performed as a DJ; though numerous videos recorded of him live show him doing nothing more than playing a free CD included in Mixmag."

Hilarious thread. By the way, don't care about them, never heard their music, but those pictures of JUSTICE are right after the cable fell out. They got a BSOD or something and there's a picture of them plugging it back in.

Paul Van Dyk sometimes plays along on his oxygen 8 and sometimes you can hear it, sometimes you cannot... not a mixer but still

I find the habit quite off putting. It's like watching someone pick at a scab.

Posted by nchs09 on Jan-10-2009 13:27:

I mix with out touching the mixer entirely.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Jan-10-2009 13:46:

there was this norwegian dj back in the days which when on LSD managed to control the faders with telepathic abilities, Arildo Dildo was his name.

Dennis Ferrer.

+ luck obviously. I've tried the "I'm a big fan of your music" myspace message tactic so many times, even when it's a lie, and yet have never had the success of a response.

The best part is that he tried to explain away his mad attacking of the treble knob as some sort of secret DJing tactic Arthur Baker taught him!

"Im messing with the eq. on the desk , as taught to me by the great Arthur Baker, to emphasise rolls hand claps effects etc, then you sneak the bottom end out then bring it back in suddenly for added frisson. Shit he will kill me for telling you!"

I wonder what Arthur Baker has to say about playing Mixmag discs and fucking about pretending to look busy. Or awful Dad dancing, for that matter.

their dad was a big NYC disco/house deejay really involved in the early scene, so it wasnt just luck.

also i have to make a comment about jeff mills. When the man plays, you can feel the energy radiating from his hands. watch the animation in his hands when he deejays, it is just like watching a legendary jazz saxophonist.

all of these little twitches and adjustments you see are visceral manifestations of the man's creative impulse

it's as if he's possessed.

it's inspiring
