at a lot of clubs, unless you're up near the dj booth, you can't even see the DJ's face. think back of the guv, yet people seems to have a good time even then. or at trance energy or other massive events among thousands of people

i went to Guv when the Dj booth was way up there...and yeah, u couldn't even see the DJ...and i'm not at all saying i can't get into a set like that. BUT, if i CAN see your face...and u look like u hate your life...there's a difference there. I guess i just can't relate to a DJ who does not to appear to love what he's doing. Because fuck, if i were them....i would have a f'n perma smile across my face. And really, how can u IGNORE thousands of people screaming. that's just rude and disrespectful to the crowd that's out there showing u nothing but love. If i can't see u it's fine, but if u can, and you look like u think you're doing all of us a favour and don't want to be there...it rubs me the wrong way.

it is easy to be "backseat" dj, but a live gig is not like playing in front of your stuffed animals.

for the life of me other than digweed, i can't think of anyone who i saw didnt look like they were enjoying spinning. (and digweed is a special case)

don't confuse looks of concentration with having a bad time face.

you will grow out of it eventually...everyone is noob once upon a time.

and not all musical styles consist of only 2 deck mixing consisting of 64 bars and a bass switch complete with 5 minute buildup/breakdown suitable for posing and signing autographs. Is it better if they work 3 decks and trainwreck constantly while smiling and doing the pogo hop? You can have just as much fun with your back to the booth than facing it. A party is about enjoying a good time with friends, letting loose and dancing, not staring down the dj like some fish in an aquarium. (hint: they usually laugh at these kinds of people...anyone remember the old aria booth in montreal that always had a gaggale of people just staring like a bunch of bores?)

when you're starting....and you're still getting used to playing live in front of a crowd....then i understand concentration face. i also totally get concentration face when it's time to mix in the next track.... BUT, when you've been spinning in a club for years, i'm assuming you're pretty relaxed back there....or u probably shouldn't be back there. I just can't handle an entire set of that. I'm just looking for SOME form of crowd interaction..eye contact even is enough here and there. I'm really not saying i need an entire theatrical performance behind the decks :P

Are u a serious face DJ...is that why this is an issue? lol

yes, i am the one IN THE CROWD DANCING! holy shit.... breakthough. did u miss the part where i made i point to say i am not a DJ? i can always only "assume" what goes on behind the decks from the perspective of the DJ. i can only give my point of view from the dancefloor...and that's what i am giving u here.

Says who? I don't recall seeing that word in the definition.

Sorry, but the point of going to a club is to be in a social environment, around other people. If you're relying entirely on one person whom you've never met for your entertainment then maybe you should go see a movie instead?

Did anyone see that guy @ Footwork on saturday who was going on about how he ran a porn website called xtube.com? anyways I went to the site and it says it has 6.5 million members! I wonder if this guy was for real...?

So when you go to Labour Of Love, you are there to socialize with people? If you are then I think you're wasting $65. As you said go, see a movie instead.

If you don't see how DJing falls into the entertainment category then I am certainly not going to go out of my way trying to explain it as it's pretty self explanatory.

1) I don't go to Labour of Love.
2) As if anyone would actually be able to see the DJ at Labour of Love.
3) It is indeed a waste of $65.

And of course DJing is in the "entertainment category", but it's a bit of a stretch to refer to them as entertainers. If they are entertainers then so are the sound and lighting staff. It's more like they are helping people to entertain themselves - create a mood, so to speak.

People pay to see a particular DJ, period. If Sasha is at the Guvernment, people pay to go see him. He is there to put on a show.

Going to Lot 332 on a Friday or whatever other club, is indeed going to a club to socialize and not to see the DJ.

People go to hear him. There's a difference. And a very large proportion of the attendees at a Sasha event are going to be there because their friends are there.

You can't be this nave. People in any club, regardless of the music or the DJ, are there for either socializing, sex, or substance abuse. The DJ simply represents a sort of common interest and determines the people who will be there, and consequently the expected quality of the aforementioned three criteria.

Such elitism in our scene.
