I don't use Facebook, so maybe you can explain... how would these notifications bump up the number of -sent- messages? Do people text replies to them?

If you get a message on FB, a copy is sent to your moble. If the original FB message is longer than 155 characters, then you are prompted to text 'n' to receive the rest of the message.
