Theres still an awful lot of good dance music out there, its certainly not dead.
Trance is certainly in a bad way for various reasons, but deep house is going very well, as is techno (although this won't last). The nature of music is that something is underground, slowly emerges into pop music and the dies away. By the time its emerging into pop music the scene is dead and bereft of creativity, but it can take 3-5 years for that to happen. Trance died off in 2004-5.
Again true, but i find the more interesting artists classify themselves as "Electronica" rather than Trance or Tech house or any other fashion stream. And yes there is still quality stuff being made, I am often impressed with the tracks posted here. It's just that i now get bored with "that" sound (the typical clinical Fruity ITB Vengeange, Izotope or T-Racks home mastered sound) It totally lacks the liquid organic/warm sound of outboard OR well mastered productions.... the random arifacts of a 909, the fluctuating oscs and creamy filters of a MOOG. There are well produced exceptions. but on lots of tracks.........
This forum cracks me up with the holier than thou snotty attitudes, so many know it alls, so little time.
Bitching about genres, sub genres, who uses samples and who doesn't, what classifies as a good song and what doesn't.
I will never EVER post a sample of my work here, no way in hell...too many people act like they are the know all, end all of music writing here, as if there was a specific way to do everything musically related in the first place.
I've been a member here for a number of years and I can honestly say I've never seen a bigger bunch of self infatuated individuals than I have here.
This place amazes me, it truly amazes me.
That's what annoys me.

opinions are like assholes, above were just mine (as the topic title asked)
pushing someone in the "know it all" corner is easy.
don't confuse my (lack of) skills with what i like, or what i don't like. Your taste might be totally different. Hence there is so much music out there.
my perspective is as much from a "listener" as a "producer" point of view. If we can't discuss taste and prefence anymore then what's the use of a forum. Even if you've never picked up a brush yourself, you can still appreciate a van Gogh....... the same with music......

what's sad is a good lot of you people here are decent producers, too bad so many of you let it go to your head and get defensive when someone doesn't know what you know.

Originally posted by Mr.Mystery I just found it funny how you used the exact same holier-than-thou attitude, you just turned it around back on the people who post(ed) here. Ehh, as long as you're happy.

Originally posted by DJMiakoda Trust me when I say I'm far from being holier than thou or a know it all, but I know an over inflated ego when I see one, and there's plenty to be seen here. Hence the reason I will never come here to ask opinions on my music.

Originally posted by Raphie But then again, what's there to know?!? There are only 3 things i know: 1. I am trying to translate songs from my head into tracks and it's damn hard work (i am not there yet) 2. I hear stuff which i admire and i like to learn from 3. I hear stuff which i don't like and i am blunt enough to share my opinion when asked..... If you get either feel offended by that, or feel that those comments are addressed to you, then your 1,2,3 are not alligned to my 1,2,3... that's not neccecarily a conflict, just a difference of opinion. There is no truth, only (acquired)taste...

What annoys me is when people say "dance music is dead".
I believe it is far from dead, where I am from, people just don't hear it. Where I live there has never been a dance or trance radio station, only shitty ass rock and hip hop, that when I turn it on, I wanna gag. I wish around here, "dance, electronica, trance, whatever" was being pushed harder into peoples ears, it might become more mainstream and end up dead, who knows, but, thing is, whenever I show any friend some of the music I listen to, they love it, and wanna know where I get it from but yet, nobody, as in dj's plays it around here. ----i'm in the States (Pennsylvania). The only place around here to go and hear my kind of music, is the big cities, like Philly and New York, and DC, other than that, most normal people around me never heard it and those people who have, usually love it.

What annoys me: People screwing up my slightly dry, very light hearted thread with posts like "dance music is dead", or "I hate this forum". Incidentally miakoda, please provide examples of what you were talking about??? Because I can't see any of the sort of arrogance you were referring to.
Seriously guys
PS
Sucks for you guys that live in redneck towns in the US, I really feel for ya
Dance music is a city thing though, its not like blues or country music which comes from rural areas, so I don't know if theres a solution for it...
Well the thing is, I do live in a city but, the only problem is it is infested with hip hop. I have not much against hip hop, I like some of it but, the fact is, trance is just not played. I show people and they love it but, nowhere around is playing it or if they are, people are not hearing about it. Its, like it is underground in my area, when in fact I have loved trance music for a long time and know that worldwide it is not underground, its just no one around here knows it. America these days don't hear about things like this from the outside world except what the news shows, and thats for sure not trance music. Its the failed policies of Bush. <----but, thats a whole new topic. I hope that things will change and people around here will be more open to the outside world, cause I for one love it. Thats why I'm addicted to the net, and this forum, because I do see the outside world but, everyone else that I know, is in their hunky dory American life. I wish to go to Amsterdam or Rotterdam and go to some real events but, I can't leave my family behind.... So I sit here trying to make trance music that hopefully other like minded people will like.
