To each there own..

I prefer to not look at the world with such cynical eyes. I see the spark that Obama has created and hope it continues.

I am excited to see people so proud of their new leader. I doubt that Canada will ever see a surge like this.

People can relate to him, he speaks in terms that are easily understood and he shows that anything is possible. His message is a postive one that carries hope. Something that is lacking in the current climate.

I don't think that he is the next coming and I also don't think he is going to be able to fix everything right away. I think GW has proven that the ways of old did not work.. and maybe it is time to take better care of each other.

Anyone who doesn't think that Barack's race plays a big role has not spent much time in the US in the last 50 years.

Knowing I have a future in the US I am happy to see him there.

I feel sorry for you if you can't enjoy in the simple pleasure... and wonder what it would take for you to think something has historical value.

In other news, millions of Americans scratched their heads in puzzlement today when President-Elect Barack Obama concluded his inauguration speech with the remark, "Hey guys, didn't that speech make you feel like you were solving a mystery?"

When asked by reporters afterward for an explanation, Obama asserted in a giggly slur, "Seriously, it was totally like solving a mystery."

Obama's aides declined to comment on the matter.

After watching more coverage of the events today, I still can't believe how people, including those in this thread, can brush aside what this seems to mean for Americans, particularly African Americans. Who is anyone - particularly someone from another country - to diminish the hope and excitement that this guy has brought to the american people. Who is anyone to dismiss the significance of America's first black president, when not too long ago, the constitution that he took an oath to protect said that blacks were only considered to be 3/5ths of a person? It is just so mind boggling ignorant, I can't get my head around how people can see it as meaning nothing at all, particularly when it means so much to so many other people.

haha..yeah, i mean accepted. It was a long night last night.

oh yeah, I forgot affirmative action still exists. My bad.

It's not as though there haven't been plenty of blacks in the white house already. Yeah, he's actually president and that's different, but I don't see that as being some massive leap into the future for America, more like proof positive that the "systemic racism" that the hard left so desperately wants to believe in doesn't really exist.

...Unless you want to argue that that people voted for him partly because he was black, because they desperately wanted there to be a black president, which is kind of a step back.

It would have been a bigger leap and more historical if they elected a gay person as president....at least blacks have all the same rights as everyone else.

edit: I am glad americans have a new found hope....I just hope its not a misguided hope. I've heard a lot of people talking non-sense about how he is a saint and how he is bringing the human race together. He is nothing more then the president....he doesn't have special powers.

exactly. black americans have been in the top echelon of american society today. doctors, generals, lawyers whatever.

so obama being a president i see more of a milestone than a historic moment. and does this mean the english/irish americans get to celebrate another dude of their racial heritage getting elected too? (from his mom side)

Fuck you Digi

Posted by T_ALI on Jan-21-2009 01:23:

I think its great. I just hope he doesn't crumble under all that pressure.

Also, I don't think people elected him because he's black. They elected him because they think he could be a way better leader than McCain/Bush.

What about the adults that voted against Obama because they actually believed he was a terrorist and was working with them lol

Black or not, getting Bush out of office is significant. Not just for the US.

To the commentator that said "who gives a $hit bout US politics!" (not in those words exactly but close enough)... news flash... what happens in the US inevitably affects the country you're in.

retired? rubbish!

minority congressman, senators, governors all got elected before

it was matter of time before a black president.

heck, for all we know, we could be 'celebrating' election of female president right now

milestones for sure. historical? maybe as a footnote

Posted by infinity HiGH on Jan-21-2009 04:06:

You people honestly think that there weren't any group that voted for him JUST because he's black (technically half, but who cares right?)? Or to put it another way: it wasn't an old white guy running?

Some random thougths...

1. Thank God Bush is gone..

2. I give everyone another week to cry and blubber...i can only see beyonce cry so much..

3. Speaking of beyonce..i'm sick and tired of hollywood butting their noses into politics....i really don't give a shit if courtney cox arquette supports obama...

4. I heard someone on the radio say the following "i don't want to have to watch america's sacred cow blubbering behind obama on stage" ...i thought that was a very good name for oprah...

5. Yes, he didn't write the speech...credit should be given to the speech writer for sure...but..it also takes a special type of speaker to properly convey the written word..one couldn't shine without the other...we all know how stupid bush made his speech writers look..

6. This is a monumental moment in history..but people need to move forward from the race issue...we have had a long time to get used to the idea of a minority becoming president..it's time for him to start working....

7. Michelle Obama's yellow outfit was vomit inducing...

8. I was very optimistic a few months ago..but now i'm worried that obama is going to be a puppet..i really hope he doesn't disappoint the world and actually makes some decisions that are drastic....pulling the troops out of iraq would be a start..or at least an exit plan for the next 3-6 months..

all in all i was very happy that obama got elected but i'm kinda over it now..maybe it's not as big a deal for me as it is for other people..yes, he is a minority..but he is also an intelligent, well spoken, inspiring and charismatic leader..i notice those things about him before all else.....
