I don't know why the bashing of top 40 clubs was in there or the feminist rant either. Believe me, we may think the people in the top 40 scene are goofs, but they think the same about us. |

| Originally posted by ChemEnhanced There are some really talented female DJs but I can't think of many female Trance DJs that I would want to see and if you look at DJ Mag its mostly trance. I think female and male DJs are on a level playing field when it comes to opportunities of making it internationally. I think female DJs have one big selling feature...sex appeal. Unfortunately, I think some miss use that feature by parading around topless....but if used properly, it can really grow their fanbase. |

When I first heard of Niki Belucci I watched about 5 of her youtube clips...she played the same song in three of them.
Women like her highlight how DJing is slanted more towards sex for females...ie. why is it acceptable to show up to a gig in booty shorts but nipple stickers but not to the office?
Because people aren't high on drugs at the office.

Simple Fact.
People @ top 40 bars are there for the alcohol and possible casual encounters
People @ EDM bars/clubs are there for the MUSIC!

| Originally posted by Skipper Regardless of what the reason is, I'm just highlighting that there's a more laissez faire attitude (and probably an expectation from some) about a female DJ's appearance/sexuality as compared to other professions. If you love the music but don't want to be a sex object, I can imagine making a full time career out of DJing would be more challenging than making it as an accountant. |

This is my fave female DJ
She's starting out in NYC (You think trying to break it in Toronto is tough, try NYC)
www.myspace.com/laurenlanenyc
She plays everything some tech, minimal, vocal house etc.
Saw her play last week in NYC with Victor Calderone at Cielo and also at Pacha NYC.
She's also opened for heavies like Erick Morillo, Danny Tenaglia, etc.
I think she will make an impact as she's attractive but also has the respect of those aforementioned DJs and others because she knows music and can mix properly.
There's my cheap plug for female DJs

It's just not as overt because, well, people aren't high on drugs, lololol. There's more to the message there, I'm just too lazy to articulate in an intelligent manner. Carry on. |
