It wouldn't have been about pleasing someone. It would be more like sharing an inside joke with us without others knowing (well, they'd be WTF'ed), giving a nod to a small group of people kind of like, say, playing a song about England when you know there's a group of fans of yours from England in the crowd.

This. I doubt that if he were to play that track, someone would say "holy shit, I'm never listening to this guy again".
