Like sljiva said the list of electronic artists and genres they've impacted is far greater than that of PSB. They've even influenced Pet Shop Boys! Neil Tennant once said that he wished he could've made Violator. That being said I like PSB personally and there's no doubt they've done things for electronic music but not on the scope DM or New Order. Id say they've influenced pop music more than anything |
well the greatest musician ever has to be a person you brought you into the scene!!!! because it was his/hers magicial sound that created your interest in the first place
for me it was paul oakenfold, atb back in like 97...i didnt know what it sounded it like...when ur in like middle school u dont know shit!!!
hmmm if u want to go way back...then it has to be the guy that made the music for streets rage 1,2,and 3...especially 2. or that early poppy dance music of the late 80's i dont know...but it got me hooked...
as far as sayin whos the greatest of all time by skill then thats a tough one, because people taste changes all the time.
Deadmau5.
Now, seriously, while I don't have much to contribute here, this thread has remind me of lots and lots of names I still have to check out. Particularly this post:

| Originally posted by Trance-MB I just was wondering how far they would be behind, since probably no-one here would even think of putting them at the list at all. Meanwhile I found a list 1-200 and surprisingly Pet Shop Boys are in it at number 25 just behind PvD and way in front of Vangelis (51), who I would believed would rank higher. This is a list and I don't claim it to be THE list, but it is a nice list to discuss. (And Aphex Twin ranks 8th) 200 Greatest Artists of Electronic Music by enigmazach Here is the Top25 of that list: 1 Kraftwerk 2 Tangerine Dream 3 Yellow Magic Orchestra 4 Brian Eno 5 Depeche Mode 6 New Order 7 Jean-Michel Jarre 8 Aphex Twin 9 Afrika Bambaataa 10 Giorgio Moroder 11 Juan Atkins/Cybotron 12 Daft Punk 13 The Orb 14 Moby 15 The Prodigy 16 The Chemical Brothers 17 Leftfield 18 The KLF 19 Massive Attack 20 Orbital 21 Larry Heard 22 Underworld 23 Gary Numan 24 Paul van Dyk 25 Pet Shop Boys I have one question left: MIKE? |

I was listening to Computer World recently. A lot of old records are influential, but I've never heard one that sounded so influential. You could hear a hundred subsequent tracks in every minute of music.

| Originally posted by sljiva This is a good list, I agree with the great part of it. But it's also made by just one person, so of course it's quite subjective and not everybody will agree with the choices. In the end I think we cannot universally agree on top 25, but we can all agree that Kraftwerk was the most important electronic music band ever. |
We could let DJ Mag make a poll.

nothing at all comes close to SAWII. it's pretty much in a league of its own.
They certainly arent "the best" but i believe theyre worth mentioning
