Agreed it should be a skill to dj, it should be up to you not the computer. But as said all you want to hear when you're out is good tunes not shit tunes mixed really well. Its not that hard to mix tunes though, come on lol.

people who say "only the music coming out of the speakers matters" bore me to dead. c'mon guys, stop saying that fucking cliche. yes, only music matters IF! EDM hadn't obviously gone downhill in quality and trippiness.

you think you're enhancing studio-made music by hammering a dozen of fx and loops? you think you're cool because you decided to loop it right here? omg, did you just awesomely cut the kicks? coooooool. creativity ftw!!!

go fuck a cow!

You've just demonstrated that you have no idea what you're talking about. Go educate yourself before you try acting like you know and using more cliches that you heard from people you want to agree with.

using the pitch slider is also cheating. records have to be manipulated 100% by hand

i have been sitting back quietly, watching this thread develop, patiently waiting for more people to make fools of themselves hating ableton before i unleash the absolute argument ender. this will end the argument once and for all and should be the example to bring up again and again everytime someone comes in here and shits on ableton djing. ready? here it is...

go to www.jorisvoorn.com and click on mizuiro. sit back and watch visually as the set develops.

That is precisely why I personally don't think Ableton should be used for DJing.

can you be more specific? did you just listen to the first min and quit? the first 2 tracks are just ambient intro stuff, skip to the 3rd track. really impressive how he layers like 6 songs at once to make something with a lot of depth and groove.

(you can skip forward in the set by clicking on the black/white graph bar at the bottom).

Exactly. It's not exactly just DJ's but actual live remixing, I think that is what Clovis means.

If you're into that. It detracts from the tracks themselves imo. I prefer altering good music as little as possible. While it is fun and interesting to do mixes like that, I would hate to go out and dance to a set like that. I like to let songs develop on their own, not have 5 small parts of 5 good tracks going at once just because it's possible.

Posted by wotyzoid on Mar-02-2009 03:49:

Nevermind then.

I think it's pretty fucking cool as long as you can pull it off.

Posted by Clovis on Mar-02-2009 03:53:

I just would rather see something amazing like that done with samples and loops of original material than pieces of other people's tracks.

Posted by wotyzoid on Mar-02-2009 03:58:

Like live production? That is a pretty nasty idea indeed, I'm pretty sure some guys out there do that.
