As I already stated, the adjuster with whom I am dealing has not yet put the claim through. He agreed to give me a few days to determine whether or not to put it through insurance. The claim doesn't exist yet within their system (evidenced by the fact that each time I've called the company the person answering the phone has been unable to confirm that I've contacted them already); but I suspect that it will soon since I've decided to go through them.
The way I see it: this is an almost brand new Honda Civic on lease from the dealership and, so, any half-assed repair job to the damage will come back to bite me in the ass when I turn in the car when the lease ends. Alternatively, if I decide to keep the car I'll have peace of mind knowing that it was repaired officially by Honda.

e.g. you're both sucking too hard with your grammar, here are two more people that hear words then spell them phonetically and may not be aware they're failing to use their words any more correctly than anyone else.

how could you be dealing with an adjuster from the insurance company without the incident being reported and on the record with your insurance company? whether or not the claim is put through, it is noted that you were in a 100% at-fault collision, hence urban's comment still stands.

That actually can be done. I've deal with similar situation a while ago, where I called the company, talked to a lady (a few times actually), and not put in a claim, based on what she said. No rate changes.

That's where I was confused! I was thinking "he's already talked to the insurance company and adjuster so it must be in their records *somewhat*". Didn't know you could still have a *record* of it with insruance company, NOT put in a claim and still have the rate stay the same, interesting
As for it being a new honda civic lease...that's a tough one
The dealership already knows of the situation since it got towed there correct? In that case, they're pretty much gonna keep it there and fix it at that location for $2400 regardless I think...
They might fight back with you if you try to get it fixed somewhere else for an *anything-less-than-par* job,

Thank you.
I had a similiar situation where I hit someone, asked them not to tell insurance or police and I would handle the repairs, howevere I found out they filed a report with the cops and my rates went up because of it and is now on my record.

he didn't collide with another car, he hit an object on the road and only damaged his own car.
it's only worth to report to insurance when there is some serious damage and you were involved in a collison with another car.

I agree that you can get the work done cheaper then the dealership would quote....but remeber....you get what you pay for too. |
Not quite. Dealerships are just as likely to screw you over at any opportunity as anyone else. Maybe some of the high-volume ones won't since they have an image to upkeep, but otherwise, don't count on it. The mechanics working at the average dealer place are just as incompetent and crooked as you will find at your local shop, if not worse. Also, the work may not always be 'the best', ie you may have damages that are fully repairable, but AFAIK all dealerships follow a 'chuck-and-replace' policy, thus why they cost more. Further, depending on the dealership, they may force their mechanics to get in-house certifications in order to justify the higher-per-hour labour costs.

Yah I know but he is still at fault to the insurance company as he "technically" should have had enough time to stop or swerve.
Trust me I am on Nick's side, I hate insurance companies myself but we all know the are blood sucking deviants.

Considering most insurance companies don't make money off auto insurance I don't think you can call them blood sucking deviants.

thats all fine and good but for insurance claims the dealership of the shop really have very little say in what needs to be repaired and the cost of repairs.

that's bullshit. if they didn't make money off it, they wouldn't do it. simple math.
and to the earlier comments re: no claim but yes report = no affect to rate. maybe you were given a one-time freebie (on many policies). my current insurance company (and 2 priors) has a star system where 6 is highest, per vehicle and with each collision, the star goes down with each at-fault incident. Therefore, I would suspect the star rating to go down from Nick's reporting the accident to his insurance co., regardless of a claim. and lower star = higher premium.
but i don't know 100% so i could be wrong; just talking common sense here.
Posted by geroin on Feb-25-2009 23:27:
not only that but this claim will be filed for 6 years meaning you will pay 6 years of higher premiums because of the fault collision

When it comes to auto insurance they pay out more money in claims then they take in in premium. Insurance companies make money on investments.
The government mandates if insurance companies want to write other business in Ontario they have to write a certain amount of auto insurance.
