What a huge load of bullshit. Get over yourself.

Post of the thread. The crowd goes absolutely batshit insane, and here are some things worth pointing out:

1.) She stands there like a rock, never raising her arms nor striking a pose.
2.) She's not doing anything fancy. The record is playing, that's it.
3.) They lost it to the MUSIC.

Nothing more, nothing less. That is a DJ, that is an artist. Not some chump fuck with a Wii controller.

For some reason thats a bit sad actually... I wouldn't call the DJ an artist in this case. Nor would I in the other.

OK I just watched the video and that is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

If you think DJ'ing is very far from an art form when done correctly, THAT is sad.

Oh yeah? Well, Henry Rollins begs to differ.

Which one?

Posted by enydo on Mar-13-2009 03:03:

I honestly don't like the song in that DC-10 video at all.

Well, the sound quality is pretty shit in the video...but that's one of the things that makes a DJ. You listen to that track now and think it's pretty shit, but you hear it in the context of a DJ's set and it blows your fucking mind.

It's happened a lot of times before, and specially with minimal.

I agree, I've enjoyed a lot of the Magda sets I've heard, I just think the track in the video lacks spirit or something, I dunno.

It's probably the shit quality, lol.

Listen to the Beatport sample here, it's "Logo"

:smacks forehead:

its not about me. this is about alternative forms of djing, richie hawtin does it, i can think of maybe one other person, and thats it. instead people just want to point out in the video how the music being used isnt good enough for them or the guy is an asshole because he stands on the speaker, and then comes the 1,000,000 example youtube videos of various mini tech house djs that use a standard mixer making people fist pump at 7am.

my opinion of the original vid is ... its decent, nothing amazing, but needs work, however, its a start. atleast its a start in a new direction perhaps? i posted the vid because ive never seen a wireless controller that was used in a way that made an obvious change in the music. the only thing ive seen before is like what rebel9 posted, where the guy moves his hand around and not much difference happens. even when i saw crazy lary at wmc, it wasn't obvious to the listener what he was changing with his wii remote ... he would move his hand around and barely anything would change in the set.

I hate it. But she's one of those DJs who plays music I don't like in such a way that I can enjoy it. Plus she does play a lot of good music...

Posted by enydo on Mar-13-2009 03:52:

I want to see her live.

Posted by woscar on Mar-13-2009 03:57:

Well, you're the one that brought up the "rocking the crowd" subject into the thread. You even made fun of Bas because according to you, he can't "rock the crowd" with his "boring music" and doesn't have a world tour consisting of acting like a moron in 4 different continents a week.

Anyways, the point is that you seem to think that this is the "future" of DJing and feel the need to trash "standard mixers" and even dare to compare a true pioneer like Richie Hawtin with this no-name wanker. Given, some of Richie's music might be boring and lacks soul, but the guy is at the front of the pack of DJs embracing new, and RELEVANT technology. Fuck, everybody began to jump on Traktor the minute he announced his switch.

Don't you realize that not one single DJ that respects himself and the crowd that goes to listen to him (or her) is going to be caught standing on speakers, strolling around the stage like an idiot, waving a fucking video game controller in the air, demanding the crowd to worship him?

This is NOT going to catch on. Deal with it.

Did we watch a different video? lol

It WILL catch on. Like I said, muppet performers are very well represented in dance music.

For every 1 of us who is put off by the spectacle of this dude, there's 200 guys going "dude he makes a SICK remix with the wii! It's fucking wiitarded!!! OMG BASS!!!!SIIICK!!!1111oneon"

"THIS IS THE PART WHERE WE'RE SPOSED PUT OUR HANDS UP"

Well, I might tend to give people too much credit

If it does catch on with a bunch of wanker DJs then it's going to be nothing more than a fad. I hope.

i think the music is decent, not the greatest, and the visual physical element rockstar thing is interesting. but im not going to call him names for doing something different.

I think it has much less to do with being jaded and far more to do with how deep you're into dance music. That and personal taste.

If you're REALLY into good cheese the Ralphs brand ultra pasturized factory Brie isn't quite going to be as satisfying as a Camembert you brought back from a farm in France.

It's the same way with many things art related. To me thats mostly what matters of taste are too, it's like, what satisfies you? What really intrigues and what doesn't? From movies, to food, to music it's all similar.

You can be satisfied with ridiculously formulaic, lazy and predictable dance music, or you can demand better and not settle for less, and not compromise for something that isn't as interesting.

I don't think dance music needs to be some ridiculous masterpiece or every track re-invent the wheel, but I do like to keep it at a minimum interesting, even if I can't really describe what that means.

Plus, when you're a DJ trying to play what you deem to be the best music out there, the way you think about and consume this music changes a LOT. You need that hunger to always try and find something better and more interesting to really stand out. You compromise less on "ok" tracks..etc.
