I went to see armin at roseland recently and the shit he played was no doubt all trance, and all sounded the same to me... pure garbage. Set was nothing like what he played at McCarren Pool last summer.

I'll be honest here, I'm guilty of producing in the style he was talking about but really he can't be serious... i enjoyed doing it and loved every single song that I've finished and shared with some of the guys on this forum.
But i have to agree with him in the sense that the style he is talking about is getting a bit stale and it really needs a revamp. I saw that coming in the about december and personally i started working on a lot of different and just interesting new ideas. I see a few people who even posted in this thread that did different stuff then what was out there and it worked out so i kind of thought i could follow that same trail.
But yeah i have to agree with a previous poster, for pvd there really isnt anywhere else to go but down at this point, but at least he is fighting it haha.

| Originally posted by MiKeJoUrNeY At least PVD is alot less cheesier than Armin gets, especially on ASOT 50% of his tracks are so cheesy. You get maybe a handfull of episodes that he plays the most amazing prog/techy stuff like episode 354, which I think was the most amazing one out of all the years I've been listening to it. But, otherwise it's just a dissapointment week after week. The last time I got to see him on halloween he played all the same songs from episode 365 which was a live set from Ibiza from 2 months before that. I was like dude you got to be kidding me. What happened to you? Also, I'm just not feeling the producers that he's using like Tom Colontonio and Nitrous Oxide. I do like some of them like Sied Van Riel, Orgin Nilsen, Arnej, Jochen Miller. The ones that support his darker, more techier groove. Pvd does get a little cheesy sometimes on his radio show but most of the time he keeps it gutter. But, I haven't had fun at a PVD gig since New Years '04 at Exit he was awesome. I don't know I think it's that he just doesn't hype the crowd the way Tiesto and Armin do. People cheer at the beginning of the night. Otherwise, the rest of the night they're pretty silent. But, at Tiesto or Armin the crowd is going nuts right up until the end. |

| Originally posted by MiKeJoUrNeY Dude take it easy, it's nothing personal against the man, I mean good luck to him. Yeah, I know he's from new york, but if you think that's gonna make me like someone, I mean come on dude, I'm laughing right now just thinking about it, it's absurd. I bet you if Tom read this right now he could care less. So, who cares, do you really? I didn't say it to insult the guy. Nobody on this forum ever hesitates from saying all the nasty things they like to say, that's why sometimes I don't like coming on these forums because I don't want to deal with all the bullshit. Really says alot about some people. I can't force myself to like something that doesn't fit my taste. I'm sorry if you have a difference of opinion, but why do I have slow my role? I think you might be the one that's a little ahead of himself, but I hope you understand now that I've clarified. None of the shit that I've heard Armin play on his radio show from him ever impressed me. I wish it did, but it didn't. But I'm go to trackitdown.net and look over his material, and if I hear anything that like I'll get back you about it. T |

I think you might be the one that's a little ahead of himself, but I hope you understand now that I've clarified. I heard one of his set's on music choice but sucked ass. None of the shit that I've heard Armin play on his radio show from him ever impressed me. I wish it did, but it didn't. Don't get me wrong I do like uplifting trance but it's like you have to be so very picky with it, especially if not techy. That's why I usually can enjoy the first hour of Armin's show because it's progressive, but, he plays alot of cheesy shit and couple of techy tracks but not nearly enough of it. But I'm go to trackitdown.net and look over his material, and if I hear anything that like I'll get back you about it. |
I thought Colontonio is from Jersey? Hmmm

| Originally posted by MiKeJoUrNeY Well I was just stating my opinion, not so much trying to throw the guy under bus. Now, if that would have been my intention, I would of been saying it to try to convince everybody that was reading this thread to agree with me, and that's was not my objective. I was only stating my personal preference. But, I know for a fact that I wasn't gonna change anyone's mind if they already liked him. But anyway, I did go look up alot of his material last night on trackitdown.net and to my suprise I ended up enjoying alot of it. It wasn't so cheesy like I thought it would be. So, I guess I was mislead a little bit. But, hey I'm happy to know now. |
people rly need to get over this interview -- i think paul was just bascially saying that most trance music that is produced nowadys is total shit - which has been the case for a long time. he takes "the good stuff" (his words haha) and incorporates that into his sound, whether it be trance, techno, or whatever... but that floaty vocal-heavy trance sound has never rly been a big part of his overall sound
