Drunk

My FIRST EVER WMC, and I'm so glad that I finally had the chance to go and experience it myself. I went with several of my friends, and we all went to just about the same shows.

WEDNESDAY - DJ MAG pool party. Easily the biggest disappointment of all since it took us over 3 fuckin' hours to get in. And when we finally DID get in, I was far from impressed. I stayed there just over an hour, and my friends were in there even less than that. The problem had to do with so many people being let in after paying money to the bouncers, even those who DIDN'T have a ticket to start with. Wednesday night at Discotekka made up for it quite well, though. I got to see Kenneth Thomas, Marcus Schossow and Noel Sanger.

THURSDAY - Ferry w/ATB & Breakfast at Cameo. All three of them dropped amazing sets. I had never seen Breakfast or ATB live before so I was especially happy with it. Ferry's set had a couple songs or so I didn't care for but that didn't ruin the experience at all. Amazing times.

FRIDAY - Pete's Pool Party, followed by Swedish House Mafia at Mansion. The pool party was pretty good until we left at about 7 or so to get ready for the other event. I enjoyed the shit that SHM was throwing down, and every one of those guys was really into it. Myself, I left about halfway through because I was tired and I was crushed amongst all the people on the shrunken dance floor. Another gripe: at least 2/3 of the dance floor was taken away because they put in a bunch of VIP couches and tables. That took away from the experience a bit.

SATURDAY - Beatport Pool Party in the day, Sasha at night. The Sasha set really sucked in my mind. So damn bass intensive and the set didn't appear to go anywhere. My eardrums were begging me to leave early, which I did.

SUNDAY - Beatport Pool Party (the last part of it kicked ass), followed by Sander Kleinenberg. I hadn't seen Sander K in over four years, and I came away VERY happy and impressed. A good, strong set of 3 1/2 hours. I didn't get back to my hotel room until close to 6am.

Overall it was a ton of fun, and hopefully by the grace of God (and a favorable monetary situation) I get to go back again next year.

BTW: I planned ahead and took the following five days off from my job after I got back for the sole purpose of rest and recovery.

dont be mad. there was plenty of warnings here. if you didnt follow the advice of vertans, its your fucking bad. so please, stop bitching because you only stayed for an hour. anything for $10 and theres an automatic 'you cant complain' clause. its miami... people pay off the bouncers... get used to it. again there were plenty of warnings about this kinda shit. sorry you suck at doing research.

try again next year.

it hit today, the "i'm not in miami blues" fck! it's depressing. i started looking at all the pics from friends on myspace/facebook as well as my own and it's tough to be back to reality and sick. got the conference cough/head cold.

so much fun again this year, some of the best music i've had the pleasure of hearing and the parties i chose this year were some of the best ever!!!! i have to say that some of the sets i heard last week rival or were better than sets i heard in ibiza, don't know, for me, it just seems a lot of the djs this year seriously brought their A game to miami and i'm so glad i got to dance to it

I got to the DJ Mag pool party around 1 w/no ticket and a WMC badge and it took 20 minutes if that to get in...and i found out later they were supposedly letting people in w/badges @the end of the st. right away but who knows??

OMG! What can I say..... I HAD A BLAST AT MY FIRST WMC!!! I mainly focused on the trance events, since that's been what I've been into since I was born. lol....

Thursday:

Breakfast, ATB, and Ferry @ Cameo - Amazing nite! I got a chance to shake ATB's hand and say hi. He's a personal favorite since his music is what truly got me into trance. Not to mention that he is nice in person. Breakfast opened the nite, with a crowd still coming into the club. He's definitely one of the future upcoming trance djs to come alongside Sean Tyas and Menno. When ATB came on, he always brings it with "ecstasy." That track drives people CRAZY! lol.. He also played a few new tracks from his upcoming album like LA Nights and the new 9pm remix. If anyone is into the vocal stuff like I am, he knows what types of songs to bring to keep the crowd moving. Ferry too played a sweet set!

Friday:

Ultra 1 - Didn't stay that long b/c I wanted to check out Miami a bit. But I had fun seeing Carl Cox, Swedish House Mafia and a couple others. SHM had the crowd jumping and it was packed as hell! I wanted to stay for Tiesto, but couldn't since I was so drained from the whole day and needed to break for a few hours before heading to Space.

PVD @ Space - Nice nite. PVD came on after 1 (I think) and started off with one of his classic hits. Didn't like the club though, b/c of the layout. It looked very old too and was basically one gigantic floor. Overall, nice nite even though I was tired from Ultra.

Saturday:

Ultra 2 - ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Markus brought a great set that included daydream. Then ATB came on and continued to move the crowd. I then took a break to check out the other tents. Btw, the food that was sold by vendors were like $10. I went back to check out Above and Beyond, The Prodigy, and a few others at the main stage. The Prodigy sure took a while to setup.

Gatecrashers - Sweet place to check out if your into some old school trance. Jason Vernau, who was a local Miami dj, opened. Then, Dj Tatana, George Acosta, and Filo and Peri. Dj Tatana and George Acosta were amazing! Highly recommend checking them out! The club itself was pretty cool and had other djs like Edgar V playing on the rooftop. Too bad I had to go because of a flight the next morning. Overall, a really fun nite. Got to hang with George Acosta, Tatana, and Filo and Peri, which was a cool experience. Don't know what happened after that. I heard the club got shutdown for some reason.

Overall, it was an amazing experience that brought together the best djs in the world for a week of celebrating EDM. Hopefully, I'll do more pool parties and yacht ones next time I come around. I wanted to meet some ta peeps from this forum, especially ones that are into trance. Anyways, hit me up the next time TA peeps

I was going to say that the food options were better than ever this year. And not everything was $10. I got 3 mini burgers for $5 and they were actually edible. Friday I got chicken fajitas on pita bread for $9. Thats high, but it was really freaking good. I was impressed with Ultra's handling of the vending, except for them running out of vitamin water on saturday afternoon. That junk was good! They had plenty of Smart Water which was fine though.

Pat.............PLEASE forgive me for how much I "suck at doing research", as you so eloquently put it. It was my first ever time at WMC to begin with, and not only that, I don't visit this site nearly as often as you do. So if you can kindly show me where I should have looked for all the "warnings" you had talked about, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks.

My review of WMC 2009 so sad its over...

Tuesday:
Got in at around 1pm and quickly found the nearest place to get drunk which my friend and I did. Went down to Lincoln for some grub then off to Aero Bar for Toronto Meets Miami. Aero Bar was a good first club to experience in Miami. Met a lot of cool people, got to hang out with Markus and Bossi for awhile. Glenn Morrison tore it up as did Markus! Can't remember til how late we stayed, but was til after Markus' set. Only bummer of the night was that my friend lost her camera... boo!!!

Wednesday:
Picked up my friend from the airport in the afternoon then went down and just walked around Lincoln & Washington Ave. Love that area! Had dinner at Sushi Samba (wikkid place, overpriced, but cool) then off to Space for Sci+Tec. The club wasn't busy when we first got there but it filled up. We met the rest of our Canadian friends there and got BOMBED!! Dubfire was really really good, unlike the previous few times I saw him.

Thursday:
Went down Collins to get food and explore. Ended up at the Sagamore at some pool party which was fun, but we wanted to rest up for our biggest night to date. One friend went to Anjuna whereas me and my other friend went to FERRY CORSTEN!!! ATB was really good for first time seeing him and Ferry tore the place apart!! Got to chat with Ferry beforehand too. I have seen him in 5 different countries now and he always remembers me, which is funny. Nicest guy ever. Afterwards, went to Pacha to catch what was left of the TranceAddict party. Place wasn't busy at all, which really sucked, but got to hang out with CG, Blake Jarrell and some other DJs and TAs. Had a great great night!

Friday:
Pete Tong's pool party!!! At this point I haven't slept yet and needed some booze to fuel me up! The party was amazing, just wish it was broadcasted and Tongy played earlier. Gervais was alright, but I went there for Tong. Left around 6 to get ready for Ultra.
Ultra was cool to experience but I wouldn't do it again. Got there when SHM was in the house room and BEP was on mainstage. Went to mainstage for Guetta but I was so tired, I had to stand near the back for Deadmau5 and Tiesto. The sound wasn't very good but both DJs played really well. Back to the hotel to change for...
PAUL VAN DYK!!! Best set of the trip by far! Took me on a journey and was so cool to see him so into it, I've never seen that side of him before. His new track Home I just love! After his set, went to the Terrace for Morillo until about 8am! He was good, but I've seen him better.. must be because it was so late.

Saturday:
Didn't get up til late and missed the pool AGAIN but went to Armin. I didn't like Jerome's set at all really, but whatever. Armin was banging hard at the beginning which I was not into as much but near the middle part, he got really good. Met some super rude ****** on the dancefloor that I wanted to punch out (only loser I met all trip). Armin finished about 6 and then Jerome came back on... only good track he played was Tracking Treasure Down Vs Chakalaka. After Armin's set, my friends and I got to hang out with him until the end of the night which was cool. He was quite drunk and tired haha!

Sunday:
Woke up very late again (shame I missed the MMC Closing Pool Party), just in time to make it out for one last dinner down on Lincoln and then to Nocturnal. Was really awesome that the terraces in Miami aren't covered like in Ibiza. Ronski Speed was really rocking it, but we decided to pop over to Space to use the last of our free drink bands up came back at around 4 and I think Tom Colontonio was on... good stuff, but I was waiting for Giuseppe! He rocked it and nearly broke my legs when he played Through Your Eyes then Cosmic Gate destroyed the terrace and when they finished, I said goodbye to all the great TAs I met (especially you drEamer) and went back home around 8 since we had to be at the airport by 11am Monday.

All in all, one of the best weeks of my life... great introduction to WMC. You can be sure I will be back next year again!!!

Cheers,
Terry

awesome!!!! and soooo hot! LOL

Posted by DPetey81 on Apr-04-2009 20:18:

Ok, I'll join in...... just so I have some future recollection of the debauchery that took place.

Great Music
Great People
Great Week

Wed: Arrived, DJ Mag party - Good time but pool parties aren't all that. Howells @BED - Snoozefest for a bit, but last couple hours were awesome.

Thu: Pretty successful TA Lunch @Chili's, Sander K/Desyn yacht - Drunk!, Anjunabeats was great, stayed until end and caught a few minutes of M_Nus before feeling ill.... damnit, next year I will make it thru the Minus party!! Good times still.

Fri&Sat: Strolled around city, ate some food, relax, then PVD @Space was terrific. Planned on checking out terrace for just a little bit, but that f'n place reeled me in like none other. Ended up limping out at noon on saturday. Shower, then ultra for the rest of the day/night. Left Ultra after PVD for another shower followed by Gatecrasher @Voyage, great party until premature end at 5am Strolled around weighing options before much needed sleep Sunday morning.

Sun&Mon: Bummed around SoBe, got some lunch and ended up at beatport for the last couple sets. Back to condo to shower and head to Nocturnal Terrace for Global Addictive. Nine hours of trance later stumbled back to condo for shower and over to beach for the only time. After lunch and nap on beach (very sunburnned following this) relax and shower at condo and one final dinner over in South Beach. The wine and food made for an early bedtime.

Tue: Fly, fly away

hahah i was looking for the coconut vendor too! i remebered getting one last year, and wanted to share one with my girlfriend this time! overall i'd say i probably dropped about $100 on food and water both days at ultra...yikes! :s

Posted by first in space on Apr-07-2009 00:16:

overall i'd say WMC 09 was definately an amazing time. it was my second trip, but my girlfriend's first, and aside from a little drunken drama, it was a great week for both of us. we stayed at the miami beach resort and spa for 4 nights (beautiful) and stayed w/friends the other 2 nights (not so beautiful!)

Started the week of strong w/Markus @ aero bar, which i thought was a great opening party. To who ever said it sucked in this thread earlier, you must've been in the back! i was up front as close to the dj booth as i could get and everyone there was really into it and having a great time!

wednesday we hit up the dj mag pool party, and honestly, it felt it was good but not great. waaaaay too crowded, and while the line up was good, i didn't think anyone really brought their best stuff to that party. I do regret getting there late and missing gui boratto and only hearing the end of way out west's last song!

wednesday night was Danny howells @ bed. this for me was probably the biggest disappoinment of the night, but not for danny's set. we ended up getting there 3 and a half hours into his set, cause my girlfriend took FOREVER to get ready after the pool party! i really wanted to hear him craft that 7 hour journey from start to finish, and to top it off, we left early cause the gf got too tired! i should've just pumped her full of red bull lol. and actually the venue kinda disappointed me. i expected bed to be a lot cooler! it reminded me of a bar back home, except with some snobby vip beds along the back and sides. when i'm in miami i don't want to be reminded of home!

thursday we did the sander k. and desyn yacht party, and that was easily the highlight of our week! it was such an amazing experience to be out there in the open air and the open water with such great music! sander really laid down those nice groovy, funky house tracks to start us off and desyn... well i was too wasted to remember most of what he played, but from the videos i took it was good! i think the crowd was good there too, we met some cool people on the boat, and we were planted directly infront of the dj booth almost the whole time! great, great party and would love to do it again next year!

thursday night i went to space for viva vs. cadenza, but unfortunately my gf was too drunk from the boat to come along. but i met my buddies up @ space and we enjoyed the terrace till about 9am when we decided to get some sleep before ultra.

ultra friday, it was fun, but the mainstage was complete garbage. i'm sorry but shit like black eyed peas, santogold and other assorted crap have no business being at ultra. it makes me sad to think of all the great dj's they could've brought instead of those lame ass indie rock acts! highlight of friday was definately sweedish house mafia and rabbit in the moon. always an amazingly beautiful and eerie experience with bunny and co! oh and by the way tiesto sucks so much balls. i will never pay money to see him again. his sets are so hackneyed and old, he lacks creativity and just relies on the same old shit.

we were going to go AM only, the gf and i were pretty tired so we opted to return to the hotel for some alone time i really wish we had've gone to k&y for a little bit though, i regret missing that party! and i still haven't been to that venue yet, so next year will have to be the year for karu and y!

saturday ultra rocked, had a much better time than friday. mainstage trance acts were great, from markus, to atb, to above and beyond and armin! booka shade was good, but having just seen them back home the week before, it wasn't as special as it could've been i think. carl cox and friends tent was just off the hook that day though. tong, morillo and the man carl cox himself were frickin amazing! too bad we missed moby though

saturday we were going to sasha and when we arrived, they told us it was sold out! but we have badges we said! too bad, they said! come back at 4am! pshhh, fuck that, so we walked around sobe for awhile, went to the beach at night, helped a drunk girl find her phone, and bumped into a friend from back home @ walgreens at 3am, looking for munchies!

sunday we just missed the badge cut off time for tenaglia's pool party by like 20 minutes, and the dicks tried to charge us 50 each. no way, so we walked around sobe some more and went to the beach. didn't even think of hitting up beatport pool party till it was too late! but we ended the night good back @ shine w/sander k and he killed it once more! armin van buuren was chilling there and i got some pics of him texting! too funny!

monday was the day for R and R, but it was so weird to sobe so quiet! i really felt sad knowing that wmc was over! oh well, it was a great time, not everything went according to plan, but does it ever??? anyway, we had a week of fun and great partying and music that we won't soon forget! can't wait till next year!!!

ps. any TA's here plan on going out to LA for electric daisy carnival???? if you haven't been to a cali massive, its great fun! i'd say it definately rivals ultra... theres nothing like the los angeles Colosseum jam packed with 50,000+ crazy ass people!

fo' sho! i love EDC, its probably my favorite single event of the year! i've been to the last 3 (and i don't even live in cali!) this year the initial line up looks only so-so, but i'm sure it'll round out nicely. and its two days this year which should be double the fun! i would love for them to add above and beyond again... they rocked it in 07, it was amazing!!!

i'm from el paso, texas. i've made the trip out to LA for EDC the last three years with buddies... its a 12 hour drive just to get down there, but its been worth it everytime!!! i also usually go to nocturnal in september and either giant maximus or together as one for new years eve. although this time i'm strongly considering just flying out for EDC since it's two days. i can't take friday off from work (since i just took a week for WMC!) and if we drove we'd miss friday night. so if i make it, it'll probably be flying! road trips are fun, but damn, sometimes you wanna just get there and back quick!

sander van doorn would rock if they added him! actually i'd be more than happy with either sander! i would love to see them have an area dedicated to more minimal/techno this year... last year they had a whole stage for fuckin nu rave bullshit, they need to show some love for minimal!

It still hasn't set in yet.. but I feel like its finally time I write my review before they close the WMC subforum..

Wed: Arrived in Miami and got checked into the hotel.. Made it down to Shelbourne for DJ Mag Party at about 5pm, which they were "at capacity " even though I had already bought my tickets.. After waiting over an hour we finally landed our way in even tho no one had checked for passes.. Steve Lawler started the party good but the crowd wasn't feeling Dubfire's set.. Overall way to crowded for anyone to enjoy.. Left during Wink's set to get ready for the night..

Wed Night: Landed at BED at around midnight.. Danny was already rocking the place and we had hooked up with my friend who had a table.. VIP area was chill but overall the venue left something to be desired.. Sound could have been much louder.. Definitely not what I would have thought, there wasn't even more then like 5 Beds in the place.. Danny created madness for 5 hours straight as only he knows how.. What a killer way to start conference..

Thursday: Got some rest and caught up with JLove, Brian Scott, Ammora, and a few others for preparty for the Lee boat.. Tikki Boat was one of the best experiences ive ever had.. What a crazy time being on the boat with the man Lee Burridge.. He kept the place rocking all day with an awesome opening set by Mike Khoury.. The Tikki Boat had a killer unique charm with sand and trees to enjoy.. Everyone on the boat was there for a killer time and danced the day away.. Free Beer made this a party not to Forget..

Thurs Night: Passed out after the boat for a while and woke up at 11:30 for Space.. In a mad dash to make it by midnight before our Tix expired, we landed ourselves in Space for another exciting night.. The Terrace is the place to be no matter whether its at WMC or not.. Love the atmosphere and Lawler, Luciano and crew absolutely fking destroyed the place.. I can't wait to see Luciano again in Detroit for more chaos..

Friday Day: After getting some sleep.. I headed down to Lincoln for the Hallucination Rooftop party.. which despite being delayed because of red tape turned out to be a great party.. Droog opened with a great funky set followed by the man Lee Burridge rocking the place for almost 3 hours.. Toward the end of the set Three and Lee tagged for some extra chaos.. even Reverse Commuter suprised me with a much improved set from last year..

Friday Night: After stumbling out of the Hallucination Party, I headed over to Shine for some Hope action.. Again Shelbourne having issues with being "at capacity " and only letting in guests of the hotel.. I finally made my way in where Seaman and Warren kept the place bouncing for almost 7 hours.. Seaman bringing the tech nasty while Warren brought the melodic prog created a contrasting but creative show...

Sat AM: After leaving Shine at about 6 or so.. we chilled for a while to get my mind straight for the madness of Get Lost.. after making our way down to midtown at about 8am.. We landed at the hole in the wall known as Electric Pickle, what a perfect place for the evil of Crosstown Rebels.. Damian Laz was ripping the room apart with some deep.funk.tech house until Jamie Jones came on to blow the roof off.. Butane, Seth Troxler, and Clive Henry all were spectacular acts and it really showed me where the future of electronica is..

Sat/Sunday School: After getting burned on the beach and some much needed sleep.. I awoke to what would be my last party of WMC.. Sunday School is the party to be at hands down.. Made takes the extra effort to make things happen the way they should.. Ice Palace studios was a beautiful place to end WMC.. Onur Ozer, Martin Landsky, Matt Dear, Guy Gerber, Marco Carola, Adultnapper and Joris Voorn all were icing on the cake (or ice cream.. if you were lucky )... It was a great last day in Miami to spend with friends and reflect on the week..

All in all best WMC yet.. Every party brought a unique and fun atmosphere which reflected on the best parts of which Miami has to offer.. Met lots of awesome people and TA's which I hope to catch up again with in the future.. Even though its only one week a year, WMC is worth every minute while your there..
