This has to be the most ignorant comment ever. I've been watching the premier league in Brazil since I was fucking 7 and I have always cheered for Chelsea. Why do you have to be a local to support a team you follow closely.

Nah no worries just had a dig for the crack. Is quite funny hearing ultra passionate support from across the pond though (nothing wrong with it suppose is just amusing).

Is kinda like all the old firm supporters I have to put up with from the far north of Scotland nothing but second generation glory hunters.

Never see many Stoke, Sunderland, Hull or even Spurs supporters here from over the water?

I think its funny when I see show like Fox Football Phone in and these people call in saying that they are Manchester United fans and using words like "we." It's only the Man U fans that do this.

I don't support a club in europe to the extent of a home grown fan. I love good football, and there are certainly clubs I enjoy watching over others, and ones that I want to see do well.

I don't like the way the play football and they are a bunch or arrogant pricks who were really shit and had success pretty much overnight due to being provided with a bottomless pot of money. I'm sure that this should disgust you, being a Newcastle fan and all.

Posted by Dervish on Apr-14-2009 21:30:

Newcastle are actually a huge club, just never seem to manage to do much. Hence my dig, mean 16M for Owen isn't pocket change.

This could easily be said for a lot of the top teams. Easily.

What was wrong with Brazilian teams? You've got an incredible footballing heritage, and you're selling your soul in exchange for a plastic shirt to a team you have no connection to. What have you got to have "pride" in? You didn't cheer for QPR or Crystal Palace, you chose a high-flying team being sold as a commodity all over the world. Brazilian teams have no money and no fans anymore and they have to flog their best players to Europe to keep going. Your country's football has been strip mined and people like you have contributed by following distant points on a map rather than your own clubs.

Liverpool 4 - 0 Real Madrid. Collect your tears in a glass and have a drink of bitter.

There was a really cute girl watching both the barca game and the chelsea game at the same time on her computer today, I was amazed and enchanted.

Closest thing is a WBA supporters club in Canada

Most people would feel honored that their local football clubs, big or small have such a big following on countries thousands of miles away. But nooooooooooo!!!!! leave it to the Brits to be offended

This is such bullshit, you assume I don't follow Brazillian soccer closely and even worse you assume no one else does either. I support Palmeiras and have for all my life. But can't I also follow european soccer and root for a team I have for more than 10 years now? What's wrong with that? I like good soccer, period. I followed Chelsea long before Maurinho got in there and made it what it is today. You really know nothing if you say Brazillian soccer has no fans.

You're a puto fan. I bet without looking at league tables and wikipedia you couldn't name the 20 teams in la liga this season. Mexicans always lack that.

Barca

Valencia
Villareal
Getafe
Osasuna
Valladolid
Racing
Gijon
Recreativo

Hate being a dick about this kinda stuff but by Vilbao do you mean Bilbao which is also Athletic (Bilbao)?

Alright, this pissing contest is useless. First off, I do hate bandwagoners and glory hunters, and I've met plenty of them. They started watching the game 2 years ago and chose Man U as "their" team without really understanding and appreciating different leagues and getting aquainted with the game.

But lets not forget the fact that English football is no longer "English" football. It is now a global brand. How many english players are playing in the EPL? So, what if the world wants to join in on the fun. If someone from Cte d'Ivoire wants to support Chelsea because of Drogba, I don't see anything wrong with this.

And for the people across the pond, put yourself in the position of a person from America, North and South. I grew up supporting a club from Veracruz Mexico. But the best football is played in Europe. It attains and keeps the best talent in the world, and has the grandest competitions. Most people outside that relm want to get caught up in the fun, and picking some team to support allows you to jump in with a point of reference. Also, the matches aired mostly show the bigger clubs, so to ask someone why they don't support WBA is stupid because no one will ever see their matches. Some of you blast American arrogance, but look at yourself if you can't step into somebody else's shoes and see things from their perspective.

But like I said in another post, I don't support a club, but I enjoy watching certain clubs. I wish more people would do the same instead of bandwaggoning.

What he said

Posted by Dervish on Apr-14-2009 23:41:

The whole point is that if you don't support your local team... you won't have a local team long.

It's just like where I'm from, no one supports the local team hence they are shit. It's a vicious cycle.

If you really love football support your local team. No matter how shit they are.
