Dude, i've been to only house parties, i know what they're like, you don't have to tell me. If you noticed, in the end i said, "to each his own", if you don't know what that means, it means that everybody has their own personal preference, ok. TO ME house music does not have drive or uplifting qualities, TO ME, it's more of a loungy, groovy type of music. Yeah it's not only BPM's, who do you think i am?? There are a lot of qualities that make music uplifting, i just don't find them in house music, sorry.

For you to assume that i meant BPM's was hasty of you, and rather immature. I play Hardstyle, and Hard Trance so I'm kinda partial to them, that gives me a grim from ear to ear.

So true. There are WAY too many groupies in this city. It seems like like a majority of the people who party on a regular basis are either a groupie, or a wannabe groupie.

Also very true. It seems that every time I see Carlo recently I'm very impressed. He is honestly Toronto's best resident right now if you ask me.



Some more food for thought: Have you guys noticed how once a new, "in" sound has become established, many residents will conform exactly to that new sound, which in effect makes them lack a style which is distinctly their own? I find this is more a trait of the newer residents in the city.

I really enjoy house when it's done well - but find too much of it just irritates me. But, a really good house set can make me /very/ happy and have me dancing with a smile on my face longer than Techno.

When I saw Sammy D, was a bit relieved once he got off the decks - because I was exhausted and wanting to go home, but was enjoying his set too much to leave.

But more often then not, it seems like house rubs me the wrong way.

I havent really read the thread but I obviously agree with this. Carlo Lio and Junkies are on fire, it is a fact. With quality distinct sound, unending TO gigs and solid list of beatport chart toppers. They are well recognized artists in what they do - tech house.

No doubt that for Tech House Carlo fuckin' Lio is a badman and the only one that I'm really checking for.

As for that OG House sound...Toronto needs a bit more Jason Hodges in its life, dude lives here, plays internationaly but almost gets no love in his hometown except for when the Loopity Goof's book him for their jams. Such a shame. It's always good to hear Sneak play in Toronto, his post wmc party at Footwork w/Jay Haze was off the chain.

I like tech house and respect our locals that are very successful in this genre. But I think this trend will make house music a lot less mainstream which would essentially mean less clubs hosting the parties where this music is played, less big scale events, and even some venue closings.

And yes, 5 hrs of tech house in the club or even on the boat would be just booooooring.

I can understand the need for more house, but saying that there is nothing worse than what you mentioned is a complete 180 from what you've been saying in the past year or so..

On the topic at hand.. no complaints from me. There are some good bookings for the Summer.. lots of variety. I don't find techno/tech house to be as dark as it used to be. I actually find some of it to be more happy and drum inspired. A lot of funky and/or tribal influenced tech was played at demf/miami and seems to be the theme of the year. It's definately more lighthearted and less serious.

There was a lot of tech house played outdoors at DEMF, but if you noticed I stayed away from the Beatport stage for most of the day because I didn't want to hear the run of the mill tech house that you hear everywhere these days.

I've said that Luciano and Loco Dice, or Sven Vath would be fun for a sunrise set, but they don't play dark minimal. They play lots of fun, happier tunes. The type of music I was referring to specifically in my post was, as I said, dark minimal. That type of serious business, druggy music that lacks the fun factor that is appropriate for outdoor, day time parties.

I don't really know what you're referring to in "what you've been saying for the past year or so."

I do agree that tech house on a global level is becoming less serious, but I've heard way too much fun-deprived music at the outdoor parties I've been to this summer in Toronto. The music that was played at DEMF or WMC is is not necessarily indicative of the music that is currently being played in Toronto.

Maybe not the past few months, but you did mention how there was a lack of techno at some point... you were really digging the darker stuff and weren't feeling the prog/house stuff as much late last year (this does not include chicago and funky house of course.) Gregor Tresher last year at Cherry Beach played some creepy tracks and was a hell of a party. Are you just tired of the 'dark' sound in general this year? Cause I don't think it ends just with techno.
