| Originally posted by Inertia i have a background in traditional taekwondo, and then olympic style. then i also practiced it full-contact. since i've done kickboxing, barzillian jujitsu, kali escrima filipino, boxing, and recently started judo. my father is a blackbelt in old ITF TKD. one of my uncles is ex-national selection in judo. the other is a kempo instructor. my MMA coach is a 6 time national TKD champ, so he comes from a traditional background as well. HIS striking coach is a a very high level boxer with a background in kyokushin karate. his grappling coach is a judo 5th dan, and BJJ blackbelt. they all agree MMA is honorable, and brilliant. it is the only venue where fighters get to test their skills against fighters of similar physical prowess, with rules allowing them to employ their art to the fullest extent while maintaining safety. it is the most "real" situation in which you can see martial arts application. if you trained in japan, you'd know cross-training was heavily favored by the likes of Jigoro Kano, Masahiko Kimura and Masutatsu Oyama, to name a few, and all believe in competing against other styles to have a proper idea of what works and what doesn't. the creation of judo as we know it comes from challenge matches Kodokan judoka lost against fusen-ryu jujutsuka, prompting Kano to employ fusen-ryu newaza technique, for example. so i think you're being a bit myopic in your point of view. |

I find UFC 1000x more entertaining to watch than a boxing match. Yes it's a little more brutal visually. But as was stated a few times i'd much rather watch it than boxing as boxing to me is really just a terrible terrible sport. Way too much head trauma. Judo and Karate while a little on the boring side for the spectator (if he doesn't know what's going on) I find quite a 'nice' sport to watch. Hope you lads enjoy it tonight anyway ![]() nelly |

LEZNOR HULK SMASH
Three thoughts of the night:
1) GSP is tremendously gifted. What a fighter.
2) Brock Lesnar is a monster of a human being. Too, too strong. Mir never had a chance.
3) The KO of the night belonged to Dan Henderson. Holy shit!
wtf was with the scoring in the opener? anyway...
Great to see Bisping get knocked out. Not great to see Henderson follow it up. People who follow the UFC probably thought nothing of it, because they know that you can't stop 'til you're told to, but this was supposed to be the event that launched MMA into true mainstream. Most people can't stomach seeing somebody take a free shot on an unconscious person. Definitely doesn't help the argument against those who say this is too violent.
GSP was in better shape and had more than a single move with a single limb in his repertoire. Wish he could have put Alves away, but this way was almost more embarrassing. Superfight time.
Apparently, nobody understands that 'brock can't submit people' does not mean that he is helpless on the ground. He may be a publicity stunt with a penis on his chest, but he is still a physical freak with some semblance of wrestling skill. Tonight was a perfect example of it--nothing fancy, just manhandling somebody 'til he can fire away with punches. Couture had the right strategy. Nobody's going to beat this guy on the ground except by luck. Heavyweight fights suck.

well...interseting event to say the least. i hope fedor or someone from the ufc (carwin, cro cop?) emberass lesnar. hes a real douche, even if he is just playing the heel. what a redneck with no respect or class. mir was over-confident and there was nothing he could do against such brute strength.
hendo's knockout was vicious. and the exclamation mark he left on him was just devestating. i laughed but i can't respect something like that. bisping did all his trash talking in a tounge and cheek manner. to hit him so brutally (and admittedly on purpose) after hes been knocked out is just dirty to me. no matte rwho your opponent is, show some class. even if theyre classless, you beat them. dont stoop to their level. look at GSP. always classy. and a well deserved win by him tonight. man has unstoppable takedowns.
I missed the first round of the Akiyama fight and im well aware of his hype but from what I saw of the later rounds he lost that fight. highway robbery.
good on fitch, hes not to be fucked with. probably the best welterweight after GSP. for him to dominate everyone and then get absolutely thrashed by GSP just shows how high up Georges is. on a completely different level from his weight class.
"I'm gonna go home tonight. I'm gonna drink a Coors Light. It's a Coors Light, because Bud Light won't pay me nothing."

My life is right again after watching that cunt Bisping get knocked the fuck out
next up, Brock. there has to be a brawler stronger than this bag of no talent poo
