following my post, the only reason why nirvana is considered the one "who started the craze" is because of kurt cobain's dramatic behavior on stage as well as personal issues he would share with the world. on top of that, he married another crazy one, courtney love.

ps: i don't wanna start another pointless discussion with u and ur buddies so please be aware that this only and only my opinion.

once again "the only reaso...blah blah blah" may be right but at the end of the day your responses are just making my argument stronger. We are not arguing the "why", but the "what" aka facts.

this is like arguing with slylee lol. Reason is more than a production tool.

use it.

if you didn't want to be pointless you would not hit reply.

ps headshot boom.

Posted by DJ_Lord on Sep-18-2009 18:08:

i just proposed facts and my reasoning.

you were only capable of replying to my last line?...i'm disappointed.

Haha...true. Finch were awesome back then

TBS is actually here later this month...wish they still played like "Tell All Your Friends."

Have you heard recent (post 2005) Brand New? They've totally changed their style...

Tut tut tut... you're going about this all wrong. What you should have done was point out the hypocrisy of him bashing Kings Of Leon for being successful on a ripped-off sound and yet praising Nirvana for taking The Pixies' sound and going huge with it.

Fuckin' amateurs in here.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 21:54:

ahhh i might have praised nirvana (not sure do not feel like re reading all of this thread), but the major statement that i made is that they were the flagship band of grunge.

i am not using wiki as an argument here, but just because i am lazy.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grunge_music

nirvana mentioned first even if "ten" mentionned 2 words later

i saw eddie vedder unplugged by himself this year. (no band, back up, or anything). we left after the 3rd song.

Not Nirvana specifically but Dave Grohl, and the reason you're arguing is because you're trying to say Grohl is different to Kings Of Leon because he pioneered something instead of copying it.

When really, Grohl was merely the second drummer in a band who took an existing sound and sold a lot of records, thus making it more popular than it had been previously. The difference between Nirvana and Kings Of Leon is not so much that Nirvana were more original, but that more people thought Nirvana were original.

A pretty shitty justification if you ask me.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:14:

maybe my arguing is not up to snuff, but grohl does posses "bowiesque" qualities, from going to second drummer, to front man, to producer, to successful a&r.

not many have that drive and ability to reach success while not being a 1 dimensional or "one trick pony" artist if you will.

you can shoot down my flaws in arguing as i am not a lawyer by any means, but i know the man has done more in music than many "bigger" than him.

not more than bowie though

what happened to the bass player from nirvana? i think he served me coffee at starbucks this morning.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-18-2009 22:17:

There's a difference between being talented and being original. The problem with the Kings Of Leon is not that they're less original than the Foo Fighters or whoever else they sound like. The problem is they write crappier songs.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:19:

if you check their album they did not write all of it. sure it is normal in this day and age, but the kings of leon success is as manufactured as the backstreet boys.

they just happened to do a few good indie songs before some record executive decided to give them an extra push.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:20:

and by extra push i hope you know i mean $$$.

payola.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:22:

same goes for nirvana though

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-18-2009 22:25:

People put way too much emphasis, especially on TA, on shit having to sound original. If it sounds original but it's a load of gash, what's the point? Something can sound just like other records, but if it's made for the right reasons in the right way it can still be a great song.

As The KLF put it:

quote:
So why dont all songs sound the same? Why are some artists great, write dozens of classics that move you to tears, say it like its never been said before, make you laugh, dance, blow your mind, fall in love, take to the streets and riot? Well, its because although the chords, notes, harmonies, beats and words have all been used before their own soul shines through; their personality demands attention. This doesnt just come via the great vocalist or virtuoso instrumentalist. The Techno sound of Detroit, the most totally linear programmed music ever, lacking any human musicianship in its execution reeks of sweat, sex and desire. The creators of that music just press a few buttons and out comes - a million years of pain and lust.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:27:

the point of the thread was not exactly that they had to sound different, but that they were among the worst shows that i have ever seen.

I haven't seen them live, but I wouldn't really disagree: I think they make some of the most soulless, anonymous, wallpaper rock around, to the extent I find it difficult to muster up any hatred for such a dull band.

My point is you're inviting a messy argument by attacking them for being generic. They're a fucking stadium rock band, you may as well attack techno for being too repetitive.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 22:40:

techno is not repetive because i have a flanger in atomix dj.

the hatred was wasting 3 hours of my life and making a drunk thread.

Posted by woscar's alt on Sep-19-2009 04:18:

I don't know, Nazi Boy...I haven't seen them live so can't comment on that, but I listen to "Use Somebody" and hear the opposite of uninspired music
