well i can't counter your patrick roy defense, canada is the motherland and in general they can't be beat. just look at the general numbers for licensed players per country, i think you must have like a million players to one of ours

good point about the championships, kipper was close. keep in mind that finnish goalies had not been trusted with the position of starting goalie until 2002 when pasi made it in atlanta, only to have his knees wrecked and ending his career15 years before it was due. he was drafted by the the thrashers as their sixth-round pick, #189 overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. so it's not exactly easy for a foreigner to make it as a goalie over there

i still think that finland produces better goalies than any other position, so at least in some sense we do agree a little bit.

If finland hopes to have any shot at a medal this year, it is going to happen in goal, because the rest of the team is aging and the lineup i have seen is probably one of the weaker ones in years. A hot goalie can take any team far though, so i would not say that a medal is completely out of the question, it will only be very difficult due to the high quality of the other teams in the tourney.

Torino can be an example of this, if you can get play from the starter similar to how Antero Niittym�ki played in 2006 then i can see Finland claiming a possible bronze.

If the final is anything other than Canada vs Russia, i think everyone will be massively surprised, myself included. Putting the home ice advantage aside, these 2 teams are head and shoulders above the rest. I don't see the same choking by older players like in Torino...bot teams got younger and more dynamic imo.

if i had to pick another dark horse contender for a medal, i'll go with slovakia. They have a better team then the czhechs, are quicker, have an underated goalie in Halak, who can steal a few games, and Zdeno Chara will be a huge obstacle for any team they face.

Slovakia is the team with the most to prove, that no one expects anything from. This could be disaster for anyone who takes them lightly.

The Americans have a shot at a medal as well, due to having the hottest goalie in the world right now in Ryan Miller.

The Swedes are weaker than in the past, so i am going to go out on a limb and say that they are most certainly on the outside looking in this year.

The great part about international hockey right now is that the caliber of countries that were once pushovers has increased drastically. The swiss or the germans can not be expected to win anything, but i certainly believe that one of these teams will upset a favourite at some point in the tourney. With 1 game eliminations, anything and everything is possible.

i honestly don't think we have a realistic shot at a medal, not even bronze. as you said, this is the worst team we've had for ages. we have absolutely NO defensemen that could compete at the same level as all of the better countries, from slovakia to canada. a nice bonus is that teemu might be out, same goes for t.ruutu, lehtinen, and now timonen.. saku is barely hanging in there

confirm, uncertain when he'll return. i think someone mentioned 2-6 weeks so i guess that would make it 50/50. so hoping he gets to play, it's one of the main reasons he didn't quit after the cup. more worried about timonens possibly fractured leg, his absence would affect us a whole lot more.

the hand was in december i googled the wrong injury, it is sometimes hard for me to keep up with the teams in the west i have no ionterest in at all like the ducks

yeah but getzlaf is still the man. that sexton(?) guy who got called in/up when teemu was injured seems to score every night

i like getzlaf as well..i don't know how anaheim went from great to god awful. I think Giguere getting pwned by injuries and coming back slower probably is the culprit.

they have 0 draft 1st round picks for 2 years, absolutely no offence...the flames won that trade because they dumped phaneuf and his huge contract, and addressed their goal scoring problems.

"I play in AIK for free, the only team I care about", Geroges Laraque's generous offer to the struggling AIK, the NHL player is willing to play for free. They can have me for free, it's not about the money, now, he say to Sportbladet. (i'll simplify a bit from now on 'cause this is too much work!)..
