| Originally posted by PatMcGroin i dont quite agree. some european festivals are just as expensive and its not an issue. but then again those festivals really bring in a shitload better artists and have an amazing production quality. comparing those to ultra really isnt even fair. the price mainly has to do with miami. because regular club nights here are more expensive than many many other cities. my point is that because ultra has become such a focal point of wmc, they have a large influence and actually determine which artists come or dont come to miami. and by paying certain artists more for that exclusive tag, lets use armin as an example, they limit other artists that actually make the trip. one could argue that because armin isnt throwing his own party, whatever artists he would of brought with him (maybe w&w or someone like that) are now not coming. and that goes for many others as well. i mean its okay i guess that ulsra has a few exclusives like orbital, because where else would they really play anyway, but to completely monopolize artists the way they are is why i say ultra is ruining wmc. |
Here's a high quality post of Phase 2 from the Ultra website. Some additions, but doesn't look like they finalized the image as many icons on there arent listed on any stage (posted several examples on the WMC General discussion post).

I don't get how the production is poor though? The Carl Cox tent is so massive with it's huge sound system and lights + lasers from the videos I saw.

EDC actually beat Ultra last year. And I am glad. Hope it pushes Ultra to invest more in design, decor, production, stage look, lighting, and sound.
CHeck out dancevalley or mysteryland videos and you will see what we mean by real festivals. And not talking about lineup. Sure stick to what you have if it works in the states, but step it up overall. Dont give me just a stage with heads and strobes and a crap laser and call it production haha.

and yea the cox tent has the most out of anything at ultra, but even that isnt all that much when you think about it.
first off, how hard is it to give the stage look something BIG? I mean give it a design. Last year was the first time they tried it - was pretty weak. The did it the year before that as well but that was total crap. Shape the stage, give it a look. COver the trusses and form a concept. Check out dancevalley again for ideas. I dont want to see the trusses. This isnt a rock show.
If you are going to do lasers, is it so hard to get a better one haha? The green laser is very weak - and if the city is capping it cause of the apartments, go with full color - they can be weaker than green lasers and still look bad ass. Also reflecting the lasers would add to the effect rather than just shooting it straight out. Look at Trans Siberian Orchestra videos for examples.
Add more to the lighting rig - simply having as many strobes and rotating heads as possible doesnt make it top notch production haha. It worked at Bayfront cause the stage was small and curved, but with bicentennial, you need to step it up.
Sound could use better calibration. Adjust the highs and the lows a lot better. Or be safe and keep with mid. Some have insane treble and some have insane bass.
With tents, add more to the stage production as well rather than hanging stuff from the tent ceilings. Also, more kryo would add a lot. And perhaps having additional lighting rig in the back to add to the effect.
Seems like a rant but its just pointers they could consider to enhance the show. They make top money so it wouldn't hurt to try and improve the show instead of just keeping it as is every year.
