This is just a really watered-down version of the so-called Japanese IQ Test involving two parents, two sons, two daughters, a convict and a policeman. That one is actually semi-challenging if you don't already know the answer.

P.S. To the rest of you 'tards, optical illusions and riddles are not "brain teasers."

riddles are brain teasers, and I think most of us here acknowledged their optical illusions aren't conventional brain teasers.

No, riddles are like puns, they are lame jokes that the teller generally offers with a smug grin, thinking that he's the cleverest person on the planet, when in actuality the people around him are seriously considering punching him in the mouth.

google search:
"define:brain teaser"

all definitions use the word riddle, unless in reference to a roller coaster.

The only 3 matching definitions were wiki links. Did you consider perhaps looking in an actual dictionary, or is this as far as people go in terms of critical thinking these days?

Great link!
...and if you just click on "thesaurus" you'll find "brain-teaser" listed as the sole definition for "riddle". It's synonymous, no way! Need a definition "synonymous", too?

http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/riddle

I don't think you understand the difference between the definition of a word, as distinct from its associated synonyms. A word like happy, for instance, has many synonyms. But if I said "you look happy," would the same meaning hold if I said "you look intoxicated"--no it wouldn't. Synonyms only work when they are properly used in the right CONTEXT.

um, obviously not. I don't even know where to begin with your response, considering intoxicated and happy are not synonymous, but rather an example of causality (at times).

Anyway, all I said, and I don't even care to debate this anymore, is that a riddle is a type of brain-teaser. Brain-teaser, meaning "a puzzle or problem whose solution requires great ingenuity" (e.g. a riddle). I only referred to defintions to highlight their relationship.

So now, back to the brain-teasers, riddles, optical illusions, or whatever else is more worthwhile/interesting than this debate...

this debate is teasing my brain

Ingenuity is creating something, solving a problem in an unusual way, the ability to think ahead multiple steps and mentally juggle several pieces of information at once. Riddles, or at least the ones presented here, don't require any ingenuity, they only require one to know the annoying "catch" to the question. There is only one solution, and it can't be logically inferred; either you've "heard that one" or you haven't.

Apparently your thesaurus also lists "Wikipedia" as a synonym for "definition."
