OP go to the doctors because I once had 9 months which started with a panic attack and ended up with generalized anxiety disorder and depression. The doctor gave me 20mg of Citalopran and they make you feel bad for 2 weeks, I can only liken it to the feeling of coming up on an e over and over all day but not as pleasent. After a while I picked up and 5 years on never had a re-occurance. they worked miracles for me as my life as down and out. I ruined a perfectly good business I owned, my health suffered, and I just felt awful.
All this talking, eating well, going running etc is ok but I didnt exactly feel like going for a run and having a salad when I was in bed crying and my heart was racing.
Just remember they make those pills so that people that cant break the cycle of a depresive state on their own dont have to suffer any longer than they have to. Ignore the stigma or what people say etc they worked for me. Hope you feel better soon man. Ignore the people being idiots on here too they obv dont realise what an awful state people can get into.
Oh there is also a website called daily strength its a forum and people who are in the same boat post and support each other. By the time I had found it I was already on the mend but im sure it might help to share with people that are going through similar.

Misdiagnosis of depression over the years for people just being 'Genuinely Unhappy' and then sending them on their way with a script ended up causing a lot of people, myself included a lot of grief in the long term. Not addressing it to anyone in particular, just my 2cents of experience on the matter. |
I have a severely depressed friend that eats healthy/exercises and it doesn't do a damn thing for him. I call to check up to see how he's doing from time to time but honestly I am scared to death for him and am scared one day he's not going to answer the phone
he's on tons of meds and they don't do anything. I guess some people only get worse throughout the years and it's horrible for them and for you to watch them be like that. My mom is also depressed and self medicates with alcohol (horrible). Try the eating healthy/exercising deal and see if it helps (it does for me and a lot of people). My man has clinical depression and what helps him is swimming and getting out as much as possible (also pot but he uses it to treat his anxiety instead of taking xanax). Your best bet is going to a doctor (though I heard antidepressants really don't do shit, atleast that's what my bf says) but they may work for you? I don't know, I tried. Best of luck dude.

Above all, keep in mind that - unless you have a long history of depression - you *will* get over whatever it is that you are feeling, and you *will* feel good about your life again sometime soon, you just kind of have to grit your teeth and ride it out for a short while. And this too shall pass, etc. |

this thread is too serious for the CoR
yeah if you can just do the excersie and good diet, stay away from the drugs legal or illegal unless you really need them. i get mixed reviews from people who have been on meds before so you really cant listen to any of us bc we arent doctors but with that being said maybe you should consult one. im not saying that will answer all your prayers but at least you'll be heading in a somewhat good direction. talking to people helps a lot. maybe just get a regular therapist you'd be suprised what a half hour of talking to someone can do. and hang in there cause we're not all 'happy' lol
The best times of my life were spent on drugs. I suggest you start trying them asap.

Forgetting the jokes and this thread actually has some good advice!
The amount of negativity and pessimism in society. I can understand why there are so many depressed people around.
Eat well, exercise well, have good friends.
But most of all do something that makes you happy, and if you haven't found it yet, go out and find it.
Don't sit in your room, have a goal in life, actually - have a goal in everyday life, smile at the people at work, chat to someone new, anything which may break up the monotomy of a 9-5.
As much as people may give you advice. Only you can change the way you live.
Check out this, its a great book.

I also think 'Into the Wild' is a great film to watch. Full of positivity and an example of grabbing life and making the most of it how you want to, not how society or anyone else dictates.
there's a ton of pessimism in this thread because everyone knows this guy is a weirdo
depressed? no woman in your life? stop acting like a creepy fuck. not happy about your self-image? get on a treadmill. start to shower every day. brush your teeth. broke all the time? get a fuckin job. not making enough? get a fuckin education.
if all else fails, the SSRI's aren't working, the counseling isn't working, and you refuse to change your behavior- start a painkiller habit. there's no such thing as a bad day on opiates.

| Originally posted by Halcyon+On+On God, stop being a dick here. I'm not going to pretend like somebody is going to be automagically cured of their woes by TA discussion, but this is an open forum where people are allowed to speak their mind - if you understood depression, I think you would know that is one of the most valuable things in helping cope with some forms of it - honest, open talk about one's feelings. If this doesn't help AnotherWay, then so be it, but what about the silent minority reading this, coming to realize that there are others out there suffering from many of the same afflictions? What if an honest discussion could help those people reach out for help - if not through TA, then through their life outside of it? The chance that something like a piddly thread could truly help somebody improve their life is absolutely worth it, even if you do not think so. I hate to bring up DA again, and the last thing I want to incite is regret, because he made his own decisions and ultimately made the ultimate personal choice with his life, and that should be respected, but who knows if things could have been different had he talked to people about his depression? Who knows if he'd sought help because a large community of people urged him to do so? None of us can say for certain, but if he was *your* friend, you'd definitely agree that even the slightest chance was worth it, please realize this. |
