weird song right?

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Apr-28-2010 17:46:

i used to play on this one chess site like a couple years back. i can't remember the name of it - but it was a big one...one where you could pay masters and im's for lessons, etc. and you'd often see high quality players blitzing. a couple GMs played on the site as well - and i remember it would always be fun to watch the GMs play blitz games, taking on all comers one after another. anyway this one day i was watching one of the resident GMs blitzing other GMs, winning all his games, beating all comers, and then some newly registered user took the seat and beat the GM over and over again. Lots of suspicion that it was Bobby Fischer- I think it was even confirmed somehow. The account being located in Japan wherever Fisher was found to be hiding.

Cute story.

One of my friend's proposed to his longtime girlfriend over chess. Needless to say they're both Russian. He plays professionaly (not sure about levels of competition in chess, but he's up there, dude gets paid) and he met his g/f after a tourney in NYC. Her brother was also in the competition, so she came to support him. They all went out afterwards to a bar and just started talking - that was 4 years ago.

Alright, so back to the story. They went to Rome for a "vacation", and he convinces her that one of his "dreams" is to play chess in front of the Colosseum... or on the steps or something like that.

Anyway they get there, he breaks out the board. And she's alright at chess, I guess, but he's obviously going to obliterate her. However he manipulates it so that the game ends in stalemate. As she's mulling over the board, checking her moves (which there are none of), he puts the ring on top of his king piece. So as she looks up, notices the ring, he asks her to be his queen (I know really cheesy) and she agrees.

I'm sure there's a ton of sappy proposals out there, but this one really took the cake. And speaking of cakes, at their wedding - on top of the cake, they had a king and queen piece, instead of the normal crap. And the wedding was black and white themed. Like - the guests on the brides side, all wore black, and the groom's all wore white.

that's the best proposal ever!!! what a lucky girl.

I'm rather a fan of smoked Gouda. In fact, I made some tacos a few weeks back and forgot I didn't have any taco cheese, so I had to use smoked Gouda instead. I don't think I'll ever use anything else.

Anyone online right now...up for some Chess? I don't see why you guys don't like Pogo. It has less bugs and the interface is nicer plus you DON'T have to pay to become a Pogo club member to play Chess you can play for free and you can do all the things Yahoo has such as e-mail game history , chat, have other people watch games, undo moves if you should allow and the pieces look so much nicer than Yahoo *sigh*

but I'm around today for awhile anyway
