No matter how much you try to fool yourself you can't deny the fact that that type of tracks with farty basslines and heavy supersaws are played by shitloads of DJs nowadays. Not only in the scene but actually in every other local club. It's the type of tracks that often top the beatport charts and goes home well among mainstream djs.
So stop acting as it's unique in any way because it's not.

You should listen to his Identity mixes. While yes, he does play those kinds of tracks sometimes, it is by no means all he plays.

The mainstream hit prototype is right now:

-Must have vocals
-Short track
-Sidechained bassline
-Melody must be simple and repetitive
-Short or absence of breakdown

Pick between 3-5 of this and make your hit.

Adding some more

-Generic percussion
-Using white noise to "fill" the track
-Overcompression and clipping

Don't forget about contiguous wide-notch filter-sweeps over the white noise to give it 'depth'.

underrated. been following him since 2006. his peak was about then but i still think he has immense potential and throws down from time to time. one of my favorites for sure. cant forget his album supernatural. wayyyyy sick. contemp trance at its finest.

I think AVB is overrated for sure. PVD definitely has his moments.

Although the last time I saw PVD at the Guvernment in Toronto I was treated to about 5 minutes of silence when his laptop crashed

Speaking of which, I'm going to the Guv sometime in the next month. People's suggestions:

Steve Lawler?

Deadmau5 and Benny Benassi?

I'm leaning Steve Lawler.

I want you to come back in six years and tell us what you're into then.

....okay?

Being overrated or underrated has nothing to do with being good or bad. I think Sander Van Doorn is a very good producer but still overrated.

Im shocked that this is even a question for you. Lawler is a million times better than deadmau5 and benassi!

2005-2006 were pretty good years for Sander.
Summer '09 was amazing as well, some good tech house/trance (Nature1 for example). After that he completely lost it. Nowadays his sets are full of cheesy, generic, and crappy trance.

Do you really have to ask this in two different boards?
Just go to wtv you like the most.

Yep, since then he crossed into something I don't really go out of my way to listen to and simply stopped buying his stuff.

Posted by TranceArmstrong on Jun-07-2010 07:18:

back when I listened to trance I really loved Eden, Rush, Pumpkin, his remix of 'Control Freak' and 'Dance 4 Life' and 4 Strings.

I enjoyed Grasshopper too, and Riff / Back By Any Demand

But that was then. Haven't heard anything from him recently.

I can't listen to any of this white noise electro crap anymore. His album was kinda boring too IMO.

Daisy seems like a decent enough club track.

PvD is overrated, his laptops and machines that do his work are the underrated in this case.
