Since most vodka is mixed with something sweet or really anything with a strong flavour, which vodka you use is largely irrelevant.
If you're drinking it straight then:
A. What the fuck is wrong with you?
B. You're doing shots. Taste once again is largely pointless as it doesn't really sit in your mouth for a lengthy period of time.
C. Drink Gin instead

I've yet to try russian standard, but overall russian vodkas are overrated and not that spectacular.

This is just my opinion but I've been through quite a bit of vodka in my day: many Russian vodkas are indeed overrated. And although you just mentioned some very nice Polish vodka's (minus Belvedere), I would say the best Russian vodkas are hands down better than the best Polish ones. There are just so many damn Russian vodkas on the market that it's easy to dilute the sample and get caught drinking swill.
