I do prefer the PoT versions of Planet Perfecto though, as they don't cut out tracks for the intervals like PP!

Edwin makes a great point about the A&R team with regard to track selection. There is a great video on Oakeys YouTube page from the Facelift tour, on the tour bus, where they are listening to new tracks together. They all get REALLY excited over a new track heard for the first time!

Which show do others prefer?

A&R make big work! but now PP is looks like ASOT, that i didn't like really. The ordinary music is very booring and I think is not interesting. There is a meaning that PP is made by Perfecto & Armada A&R together
quote:
"Armada & Perfecto join forces"

Just compare the PP & Oakenfold's live from Rain NC (NYE 2011). POT was not the same but it was similar the live sets

Cannot be compared!!!
The live recorded on NY eve is that why we "go crazy" about Oakenfold music.
PoT's and PP's are the commercial versions ...
As for me - I prefer to listen to Perfecto Planet more ...

I have to say I agree with you - But I don't listen to ASOT.

I despise the AVB track - "This light between us"

The chord changes, the voice, I don't think Oakey would have played that before the deal. That said, for me, there are MANY more positives than negatives from the deal.

I really don't like that Planet Perfecto Danny Tenaglia 'Exclusive' - [which he also plays in his recent Global Groove set] I hope he doesn't start playing exclusives, for exclusives sake!

It's a great track, but not in an Oakenfold set is all!

Oakey says he plays 'To the crowd' - which is WHY I find the Russian viewpoint interesting, - because you are all so awesome and helpful on here, and also vocal - I've only ever heard him in the UK and Ibiza but I'd love to hear recordings of how he plays live in different countries. Because when he is in the UK - it is definitely more trancey. Which I obviously prefer. That is not to say I don't like it when it isn't. For the reason Ihor mentions - his track selection is unique and fantastic.

I understand WHY people love Oakenfold in WHATEVER style he plays, for the track selection. I can hear it. But for example, after the first 2 hours of RAIN NYE - which, oddly, Tariq posted on his forum after phoning Oakey - the first 2 hours would be 'commercial.' Then near the start of the 3rd hour - you then hear the track 'TON T.B - ELECTRONIC MALFUNCTION' [Ton T.B is a previous Oakey played producer] which is a 'Cream era' sounding track - and awesome.

And I NEVER got to see him during this era. Too young! - But it sounds RIGHT, to me!

I have to admit, I HATE the fact that he has an A&R team to censor the music for him, it smacks of being lazy! BUT - I can appreciate that they get so many rubbish tracks and it HASN'T affected track selection in any way IMO. So Ihor is right Credit to them

Whatever way, It fascinates me, however people love Oakey. Because it makes me appreciate something I may have missed.

I don't agree with 'Commercial versions' - they ARE more commercial. But as Oakey states "you won't hear these on the radio."

He NEVER plays the commercial 'RADIO EDITS' in any set I've heard. I would stop listening if he or any DJ did that in broadcast or live 'sets'!

"More commercial" is fine with me ... Radio and live sets of Oakey are as different as white and black ...

Posted by Ihor on Jan-28-2011 12:51:

commercial? commercial is all that we can buy or sell. The radioshows are made for commercial purpose. We listen it, than choose tracks that we like, go to the shops and buy it (if we have no money or don't wonna waste them we search for the pirates publish). Of course the other side sense of the radioshow is rating of the dj, PR of the other dj (with guestmixes) and PR of the producers/musicians. The radioshows with TL is always commercial, i think! Interesting about POT... There was no any official TL, only from funs(us & here).

Posted by Edwin-L on Jan-29-2011 17:54:

Ihor,
As far as genre goes, trance will always remain an underground genre compare to pop dance with pop star or other pop genre. But I think you are referring to Armada sound as the mainstream trance sound.
I think Paul has always been trying to play tracks from various dance genre/labels on each set but sometimes, when he could not find as many tracks that he like or suitable, he would play more tracks from his own label (now including Armada).
The good news is Armada is made up of many sub labels and even a better strong point to Paul is the way Paul present trance is pretty brilliant and thus PP bring back memory of EM 99 sets in many parts although the tracks played are new tracks.
In AU, 3 stations are playing it, iTunes podcast ranking has risen to higher position as well.
I hope Paul and PP will do well. I also hope Perfecto artists do well and have more releases!!

I understand your point, but that is not commercial in my opinion. Take Perfecto's and Oakey's OWN releases. They almost all contain 'Radio Edits' with the releases - that will get played on Mainstream radio and many reach the 'Charts.' - 'Faster Kill Pussycat' is just 1 example of MANY[Southern Sun, Sex N Money etc...]

Oakey NEVER plays the edits which might have been made for a commercial purpose - their main aim to chart and make money. He always play non-commercial mixes of any track, regardless of it was made for commercial purposes.

I know this wasn't what you meant, but related to above ->[Many DJ's, not just Oakey, get wrongly accused, IMO, of 'selling out' by going 'commercial' or another word for this is simply 'Pop.' by missing the distinct difference I mention above.

Example - I've seen people criticising Steve Angello for this, because he relocated to LA, and was asked to remix or produce a 'Pop' artist or track - I mean, C'mon! - Pacha Ibiza don't have a commercial DJ as resident for a few years running - if they did nobody would go!. A commercial DJ is a mainstream radio presenter playing Pop music, or DJ's people book for weddings and parties.

Nobody can deny DJ's/producers the right to make as much money as they can from doing their job, as long as it doesn't affect what I listen too, I'm happy ]

I also suspect that a lot of Oakey 'fans' that once loved him and then slated him a few years later [G.U forum in my experience] did so, because he plays MANY tracks [& Bootlegs] that people have heard in pop charts [Or Pop artists productions.] Which leads them to believe it's somehow not 'Underground' enough for them anymore! - Killers is just 1 example, Snow Patrol, Britney etc...Yet the remixes Oakey plays will NEVER be heard on the radio's of people who are 'fans' of these groups.

Indeed, the fans of the artists above, I reckon would NOT enjoy the remixes Oakey plays of the artists. Because they AREN'T commercial.

Just like I am only aware of some of the artists tracks, BECAUSE he plays these remixes - It works both ways. And when I'm in a pub for example, and the jukebox starts playing 'Killers - Mr Brightside' - I'm left thinking - This is SHIT, I only wish I could plug my MP3 player in and let them hear how good this is, in my world. Again 1 example of hundreds!

Remember the ongoing debate on the old EM tracklistings forum about the 'Vengaboys' track 'Paradise' from Shanghai EM? - Even I was guilty of that. Nobody believed, for 2 YEARS, somebodies post ID'ing it as Vengaboys. How could it be!!! 'Going to Ibiza' LOL....It was! And when has, or will 'Vengaboys - Paradise' EVER be/been played on a main radio channel? - I dont know, I strongly suspect never

I know a lot of Sasha fans did this [some in person] - and I'm not professing to know a great deal about Sasha, except I believe he worked a lot with Jacques Le Cont, [Please correct me if that's wrong ] aka Thin White Duke - Who, was also Madonna's main producer.

And who is Madonna's favourite DJ....?

Oakey.

Agree about the tracklists we are getting - and also the label they are on - must be a 'Mixcloud' thing. Good on them, and it forces Oakey to actually put some effort into producing tracklists. Something I suspect he is not fond of

Posted by gzmums on Feb-01-2011 00:09:

And just so you all know....and I know it may come across in this manner. But I NEVER EVER, EVER mean to cause offence to ANY Oakey fans

So NEVER take it that way. I consider ANY Oakey fan, a friend of mine - And that has been reciprocated to me IN PERSON, by EVERY Oakey fan I have ever met! - In ways I can only marvel and thank people for

Posted by LittleGoku on Feb-01-2011 02:53:

Guys, as a longtime perfecto addict...and expert on the label....this new radioshow is a breath of fresh air.

POT was becoming too bland and more of a PR show.

PP is a mesh between both labels..

Why you think so? you're about promotion perfecto tracks (like it was POT 120-130)?

Interesting point on Robert Vadney's Facebook page today. Armada refusing his new album because it was not commercial enough....which highlights the point Ihor was making

Posted by Edwin-L on Feb-02-2011 02:33:

Checked Robert's post in FB. This shows that Perfecto Records still running business as usual for quality electronic music.

AGREE entirely. And I'm SOooooo pleased Perfecto artists still have this option

This message shows the difference between Ihor's point in 'Dance Music Commerciality' and general as I make. Something I may not have appreciated in my posts.

I STILL, never hear commerciality in ANY Armada tracks Oakey chooses to play, since the deal. That's the Oakey difference, for me.

The tracks may contain a commercial element, yet retain the Oakenfold genuity.

To understand better [Without listening to ASOT urghh!]

Which PoT shows did anyone find their favourites or best??

My faves were 1-8, 59, 60, 175. 177 then 186.

And if you still listen to PoT [as I do in these 2 cases]196 & 197 which are Planet Perfecto 7 & 8.

If you are like myself and love those, and you haven't heard them, you need to hear FGDJ [Or Sunday Special] AND Open House, Split with Kenneth Thomas!!! - I listened to that AGAIN today instead of the new PP13!! [partly to save that for tomorrow ]

Posted by Edwin-L on Feb-02-2011 05:37:

Listeners like us will not lose out as long as Perfecto labels like Perfecto Digital, Perfecto Black, Sound of the Renegades (Spitfire, Bad Apples...) continue to release mix packages with or without Armada (Robert Vadney's case shows that Perfecto is still determine to live their mission).
We should not worry too much about the 'invasion' of Armada sound as it is made up of many sub-labels. The good thing for Perfecto artists including Paul is that they can play the tracks that they like, including those signed under Armada sub labels.
Since the PP era:
-It is very obvious that either Paul and Perfecto has build some kind of work system or structure to let Paul find a balance between his own projects and trance. (Paul, Paul's management team and Perfecto A&R should be thanked for this I guess)
Specifically to the radioshow:
-I am just glad that ASOT podcast's 'voice-over attacks' are not forced on PP. PP voice-overs are still very cool with Paul's speech and tracklist advise. Even the current Perfecto voice (guess who......Robert Vadney who welcomed us to the club)is fitting well with the mix. Frequency wise is OK too.
-There are more special features: seems to have more and more Oakenfold edits. Also Planet Perfecto and Oakenfold exclusive are rather organic (not always on the same spot like other podcasts).
Small suggestion is that remixed version and edits from Paul's soundtrack or more mainstream projects can be featured more as that's what makes Another World, Goa Mix unique (Glad to have the 2011)(Inclusion of Paul's edits of Time and Around The World are both very nice)
To end this post, just like to say good luck and thanks to Paul and Perfecto team!! All of you should should know that your hard work are always obvious and appreciated by listeners.

Ahah!) This thing makes me happy

Maybe you guys are right. Maybe Its only I didnt like most part of tunes, that Paul plays on PP (I'm very choosey about music). Oakey is great & its true. But FG DJ live is terrible
I know only one! His essential live mixes from 99' was the best! It was the best music ever! I wonna hear him live! Hope he will come to Ukraine and we will dance like we never dance before. Hope you're understand me with my english

Posted by gzmums on Feb-03-2011 00:53:

Me too Ihor

I listened to PP13 1st hour today!!

COME ON OAKEY!

The first 25 minutes IS his 'Open House' set from 23-12-2010. So is over a month old....[This is a TOP set BTW, much more progressive Oakenfold - so my only moan is that it isn't new! - I've been listening to Open House ALL WEEK, then listened to it again, when expecting a new Planet Perfecto.

Then it mixes in a new track, INTO the Open House first 25 mins, which indicates the mixing is all done by PC. Which I don't mind, Many DJ's do this now. As much as I am not a Sasha fan. I do admire his choice and what he does with the 'Maven.' very much, it takes talent and genuine musical know-how. I know Oakey doesn't have this, to that degree. Hence his interview where he goes on about how not too sit in front of the PC alone, but collaborate with people who do. Which is FANTASTIC advice. But I can mix any 2 tunes together in Ableton.

But I know I still couldn't do it like Oakey does. So it does not bother me 1 little bit.

Then we have half an hour of loads of Oakey tunes AGAIN. I would put good money, on the fact that many Oakey fans have heard Southern Sun, MORE times than he has! - which leads me to my next point!

Apparently it was a 'Reworking!' can anybody demonstrate what is different about Southern Sun? [I have heard PP13 once so may realise a difference, but if I had, I would know, I THINK!]

As I said on Oakeys forum, I could rework ANY 2 pieces of music together, STRAIGHT into each other, at their own BPM - and that would be a Gareth 'Rework?' - I don't think so....you don't want to hear that now I promise!

What does 'Rework' even mean!?

A lazy week for Oakey, I suspect.....I hope the guest DJ slots are because he wants to showcase new talent. And not just been lazy. I appreciate he may have earned the right to 'be lazy' now, but I would rather he just mentioned that instead. And that would be fine with me. I agree, it's deserved, but disappointing.

That first tune from the guest DJ....awesome....then it just seemed like Fatboy Slim was playing to me! - I would say Fatboy Slim is THE most talented DJ I have ever heard, Live and broadcast, in terms of skill. But it isn't new, because of him. And when I say him, I mean only '1 of' so I understand why Oakey would grant him a spot. Hats off. He seems VERY talented IMO.

But it smacks of 'I can't be arsed' OR 'I'm too busy' which is understable. When Oakey is DJ'ing - or he's on holiday like many DJ's. Like now.

Good point Edwin - It does seem that the latest shows are balanced between the differences mentioned in this thread

Hopefully Hour2 will be better for ME tomorrow hehe

NOOOOOO way!!!

LOL

FGDJ is like his 2000 Essential Mixes!!!!!!!!

I LOVE that set dearly. The tune he finished with!!! O.O WOW [And the rest!]

Wow the difference.

I hope he makes it there soon too Ihor and back here. I tried tweeting my annoyance at no UK dates. Ignored. LOL

[And I ALWAYS understand what you mean - Your English is great - although the russian posts always come up as O's and A's on my screen - is it a different font???]

LOL Ihor....I 'Guess' you didn't like the first 25 mins of PP13, or 'Open House?'

Hope you liked the rest [I haven't so far!]
