Damn, bad reviews all around

Posted by cono_sur on Nov-06-2010 22:32:

First time going out in a while and I'm glad I went.

Got in with no waiting at all around 11pm through the will-call/pickup entrance located in the side alley.

- The opening act was decent - but I was saving energy for later.
- Sneak's set was OK - not really my cup of tea.
- Really enjoyed the 1st hour of Ricardo's set . He lost me in hour 2, and was hit-and-miss in hour 3. Really weird last track of the night. lol

Nice looking crowd!

Coat check was a mess, but I've been through worse. I guess they underestimated coat check utilization.

Overall - I had a great time, and it was really nice chatting it up and seeing everyone again!

Kitty ok? Poor Cloe!

Was there an afterparty?

If you read more about Ricardo you would have known he can be very hit or miss. It might not be the best trait for a DJ (not everyone can be like Digweed) but that is what you get from Ricardo.

He always parties when he is in the booth...that's part of his shit show.

but for what he was dropping his persona seemed self absorbed. I didn't enjoy his personality because the music was not delivering.

Booth parties should only happen when the party is going off!

It happens a lot of times, in almost every club, international or local, DJs just seem to think cranking it out means it's a better party, which isn't the case.

One thing I noticed, is the dancefloor speakers were Funktion Ones but the ones at the main bar were not. So that might explain people hearing the music differently. I'll doublecheck tonight.

The conversation- Carlos Cid.... As soon as i heard that track i knew it wasnt gonna be a good night... then the 80s came along...

i had pretty low expectations for last night and even they couldn't be met. obviously i thought that the music would be good, otherwise i wouldn't have bought a ticket, but it's not like i was expecting to lose my shit and have some transcendent experience at the hands of the techno wizards or anything.

i still had fun because of the company i was with, but i could have had as much fun at home, without shelling out 30 bones for a ticket.

I expected to hear a typical villallobos set which last night was...this does not mean however that it will ALWAYS be half decent electronic music.

2) (cause I'm a house gansta)

I think that's a load of crap. So what, I should have expected some schizophrenic alter ego?! The only expectation I had was that Ricardo was going to play minimal. And if not that, as Jill pointed out, at least decent electronic music. That's it. Is that so much to ask? Instead we had whacked out wayback playbacks from the 80's.

And fucking lol @ house gangsta. Maybe you should move to Chicago and buy house gangsta bandanas.

It is too much to ask because Villallobos isn't known for doing JUST that. He's known for being all over the map. He can be known for inconsistencies...take what Jay said who's seen him the most out of anyone here I dare say.

was it 3 hours of 80s? no. was his entire set awful? no.

To try to insult someone based on their music taste shows your true level of maturity

I get elbowey to keep people from crowding me... but I did laugh to myself when I realized it was you.

Truthfully... you dont deserve my maturity.
