I ended up making an attempt to go this party. I would have liked to have seen UMEK. It really sucks that he had to cancel.

I think the reason why there was a line still, was because ppl still didn't know that UMEK had cancelled. I found out while I was in line, from a text from someone inside the club. I then promptly left. Really annoyed that after not going to FW in months, the one night I decide to go, the DJ cancels. GO FIGURE

Next up is Sasha....now I'm worried. lol

last night just reconfirmed that addy is my favourite local with nathan barato at a very close 2nd. absolute madness coming from the booth!!!

It really sucks that Umek had to cancel, as I was really looking forward to see him perform. My problem, however, with the promoters of the event. Apparently it seems that deceiving your customers is a sign of good business. Why didn't they announce the cancellation ahead of time? Why on the day of the event, I was still getting emails hyping up the party, with not a word of what happened in them? Just please don't tell me it was a "surprise no-show", as he didn't end up playing in Montreal the night before either. I personally know few people from out of town who were coming to see Umek. You probably can imagine how upset they were to find out the bad news after driving all the way to Toronto. A simple email announcement would have avoided their hassle. I would like to thank the promoters for their lack of professionalism and honesty.

Yea this was all a master Evil plan from an Evil club

Get over it dude, He's coming back

Posted by Nobbie Q on Nov-14-2010 21:23:

It's obviously not an evil plan from the club but they could have gave some sort of warning especially since he cancelled in MTL the night before as well. There's people coming from all over and it wouldn't hurt these promotors to extend us some courtesy. I was about to drive down until I checked this site and found out the bad news which made me not come down. OH well...at least they reduced the cover and had Carlo Lio on the bill instead.

Posted by Shankar on Nov-14-2010 21:25:

You made it sound a bit extreme there, Shaya.
All I'm saying is, a small announcement about his cancellation wouldn't hurt, that's all.

Posted by Special K on Nov-14-2010 21:42:

The club def should have let the customers know what was up, and not just with some note at the door of the club after people had already made the effort to get there from all over the GTA and beyond. How lame is it that the customer has to deduce that he won't be playing in Toronto based on a note from a promoter in DETROIT. Where the DJ was supposed to be playing THE FOLLOWING NIGHT.

Jon they all want free passes...good luck buddy

of course we're genuinely sorry for any drama caused by this cancellation... we have a solid reputation for looking after our customers, and this really was a shitty situation which left us scrambling up until the last min...

I love reading the positive reviews from the people who did attend, it was a killer party!

I was sad to see that Umek didnt make it BUT Carlo did an amazing job and showed once again why hes become an international supastar! And I've got to agree with everyone, the crowd was super fun and seems to be LUVING the music!!

As far as I know the Montreal gig was cancelled before for different reasons. But generally I agree, good points. Obviously, the dj does not usually fly in an hour before his show, that means that promoters knew he wasnt coming at some point early(ier) in the day and instead of letting people know about the fuckup were sending out emails like "dont forget to come to this party bla bla bla". And then all these people showed up and 80% of people in the line still did not know that Umek is not there, due to the fact that promoters cleverly located the "umek is not coming" sign right by the entrance, so that you only found out that he is not there after standing in line for 30-60 minutes and likely would still go in. The security was a gongshow too, at one point there i remember like at least 10 ppl leaving and security not letting anyone in for like 15 min after those ppl left, like wtf?? this was probably the longest I stood in the line to go to a club (over an hour). and i dont know about this 10 bucks cover discount, as I clearly remember being charged 20 per person for myself and my gf when i went in.

As for music, was alright. Carlo was ok, when i just got in at 2 but in 20-30 min started to play too boring/generic. The guy that came after (didnt pay too much attention to the dj booth, was it addy?) at around 3, started pretty good with heavy tech tunes but i was tired by that time so left soon. Altogether, I had a "could be worse" time but not that great. The thing is neither carlo nor junkies or addy are even close to fucking Umek in terms of the craziness/quality of music so i guess musically was a letdown due to high expectations for the night even though it the music was alright.

Posted by breakawayj on Nov-14-2010 23:02:

Shit Happens....I was also very dissapointed to find out that he had cancelled but had a great time with friends regardless.....The Junkies, Carlo and Addy did a great job imo......Only question is WHEN IS THE NEW DATE???? Really hoping hes coming back SOON.

Truth, seems like a bait and switch, even if the switch was fun, enjoyable and just as good if not better than the bait.

I myself come to Toronto often for various events, sometimes within hours of the event and go straight to the venue.

I'd be SUPER pissed to drive that far, get a place to stay or whatever only to find out the performer or whichever reason for coming was not there and this was known prior to the fact.

I understand the nature of the business... DJs and artists are people too, they get sick, tired, bad luck, cancelled flights, bad papers etc, so they can't be everywhere all the time. We all call in sick to. And I understand that you wanted to retain the customers to ensure they still come to the venue and lose revenue, or deal with the hassle of refunding tickets and confirm a replacement. Money is money right? But you gotta let the people know, it's a nice consideration with people traveling, booking time off work or adjusting work schedules, or any other planning that one might encounter with coming to an event like this.

So the bouncers didn't yell out that Umek wasn't there? They just let the line build up so that ppl could see at the end that he wasn't there? Well I guess it's still a nightclub and at the end of the day despite the friendliness and 'PLUR' attitude this scene creates, they still want to make sure they look hype somehow by building a lineup outside on false pretenses.
