Well I've either been to, worked at or know someone at every major studio here in LA, in London and NY and I have never seen a PC based system in use as the main tracking/mixing/editing/conforming/post/dubbing/doIneedtogoon/etc.
I'm also good friends with the guys GC pro here who spec the vast majority of systems in pro studios in the USA and apart from the odd composer or one man producer outfit, all of the systems are mac based.

Really? So if a PC is for "personal things" or "amusement" as you state, then why do Apple platforms have so little market penetration in the business sector? Last time I checked, Wintel machines (or "PC" as you call it) are clearly the dominant platform in enterprise across the globe.

If you check my previous post and now i see that this was misunderstood as i expected when i refer to jobs i am refering to jobs involving heavy image/video/audio or any other work with exhaustive hardware usage and that needs a lot of liability , it's obvious that you don't need a mac to work with .docs and that a businessman would prefer that his employees uses a pc with a single core and around 2 gb of ram that costs 300 than a mac that would cost twice.
I was as scheptical as i think you are, i don't own a mac, and i am against the "i wouldn't dj live without a mac" you can host a gig with a pc fairly well, just cross your fingers to avoid freezes, but this happens with mac too as my friends who own one say.
however i like to work with multiple applications and windows opened and i am afraid my laptop lags if i'm doing audio editing while i've several firefox windows opened, even though i've pipelining enabled and let the ram free while it's minimized. Something that the few times i've used a mac didn't happen.

And this above me is the most ignorant and stereotypucal statement i've ever seen , don't judge me for thinking that mac owners are ignorants, only ignorants should feel represented on this, and all the mac owners i know are ignorants, some of them are architects or engineers and some colleagues advised them to buy it over a windows pc but most of them realised in the end that not all the applications worked for them (and i remember warning one of them that the fact that his current software supported mac doesn't mean that if he someday needed to use another software , this might not be available for macs. Something that happened and now he needs to work on a pc again hehe :P)
A lot of them don't know the hardware inside their mac, don't know what's the real difference between OSX and Windows, if you ask them for the differences between a mac and a common laptop they'll point 2:
- One has an apple , the other hasn't
- There is a taskbar on top of the mac.
Insightful!
Apple invest a lot of money in creating a trend, they say that what they do is viral marketing, mouth to mouth but is not true, a lot of people have the idea in their minds that MAC>All and they spent money on this, and not, heavily depends on the usage you want it for. I assume people here are aware of the disadvantages and advantages of a mac with several posts proving it but general people, who is the real current target of mac ,simply think MAC = Better and i'd say mac is better only for heavy tasks as i said previosly.
Possibly the mac owners i know aren't the best example, none of them is enthusiastic at all about computers so i think they get tricked easily since all of us at some point feel that expensive = better, until you do some research and buy the best quality/price, some people don't bother on this and rely on wrong opinions.

Dweeb debates
We're all well-aware of the merits of Mac vs. PC,...and similar pointless and over-generalized topics that have been debated to death with religious fervour. Just steer clear of these pissing matches,... |
We all know that the only difference between Macs and PCs is how cool the dork sitting in Starbucks plugging away at his laptop thinks he is. The hot MILFs buying their $5 Frappuccinos don't care and aren't paying attention to any of those dufuses anyway, so just buy whatever the f### you want and shut up about it already.

Yes, thank you. I don't know why I let this slide the first time. Some insane masochistic part of me honestly believed that because the OP listed a few objective criteria, the thread wouldn't turn into a massive clusterfuck. I'm honestly somewhat relieved to know that I was wrong.
Yeah, I know it's vaguely about producing, but it's like all those threads about "inspiration" - nothing but coffee talk and e-penis measuring, a bunch of noise overshadowing the topics that actually matter.
I think this thread's gone on for plenty long enough; to the OP, if you haven't learned everything you expected to from this thread, then you're probably not going to, because this is what they invariably become.
