3 points.

1. good to see you separated rabbits away from inland empire, and ranked it higher. the rabbits snippet in inland empire really stood out to me when i watched it.

2. you think 'funny games' is that f*cked up? i would consider it more of a 1/2, not a 3.

3. odd you ranked 'the fountain' as 1, and syndecdoche as '3'. i find the fountain more of an artistic perspective rather than a wtf moment. as for syndecdoche, i don't know what to say about that movie. there is so much to that movie you can analyze that i can't explain.

1. I saw Rabbits way before Inland Empire and still think it's Lynch's darkest and most disturbing work so far. Compared to 80 minutes of three giant rabbits throwing out cryptic lines and sometimes reciting even weirder poems, even Inland Empire makes a lot more sense.

2. I think it was mostly the remote control scene that did it for me. And the dark humor that is so completely out of place sometimes that I was like "wtf is wrong with this movie?" all the time. Maybe it fits better in 2, meh. Btw original, not US version.

3. I guess you could put a lot of movies into 1. Imho The Fountain fts cause it's full of sybolism and mystic stuff that you can't easily assemble to make some sense. The can be funny, scary or artistic, with The Fountain it's the latter but I'd say there surely is some of it in the movie. And Synecdoche, as you say, at some point the movie spins so totally out of all ontrol and all boundaries that it just overloads the viewer. How could I ot include that?

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Feb-05-2011 19:28:

speaking of f*cked up movies, a movie that could be getting a lot of attention this year is "Martha Marcy May Marlene" by an up and coming director T. Sean Durkin. After watching this movie, it made me think a bit about what just happened, and after piecing the puzzle pieces together, it hits me hard. a 2 to 3 in the Meat187 scale.

it's about a chic (Elizabeth Olsen, yes 'Olsen' the younger sister of the Olsen twins) who follows her boyfriend(John Hawkes) to a cottage house in the woods, and lives with him. We find out later that the boyfriend is a leader of a cult who takes in women, and manipulates their minds with propaganda and the way of life. About 2 years pass and she decides to runaway from the house. She stops at a diner, and calls her older sister to pick her up at the diner. After that scene, the storyline just goes into a real mental mindboggling story.

i enjoyed it.

Going to rent irreversible. I saw the previews and it looks really good but disturbing. Love those types of movies lol.

I think Trainspotting was pretty disturbing because of the dead baby in the crib :x pretty fucked.

Just wanted to point out that the US version of Funny Games is a shot for shot remake of the original. This is invalid, that is all

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on Feb-05-2011 21:14:

no it isn't.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Feb-05-2011 21:22:

i haven't seen all of the remake of funny games- but after watching the first 25 min or so it did seem shot-for-shot. haneke is so fantastic, either way.
and your list was great meat- gives me quite a few movies to check out...I think jacob's ladder and oldboy both belong at though, perhaps dark city as well.
antichrist was more fucked up than just too, in my opinion.

hooray for gozu though.

Srsly?! Then it surely is the most pointless movie of all time, why the heck would they do that?

I don't know

Of course, this begs the question, why remake it at all? Haneke is directing it, so it might amount to a second-chance to clear up some mistakes on his end. That and I guess we can't deal with subtitles.

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on Feb-05-2011 23:21:

no it isn't and i'll prove it by maybe watching it one day.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Feb-05-2011 23:23:

I just saw one that is going down in the books. The more I read about this directors previous films, the more I see he is really fuked up!

I just saw 'Enter The Void' by Gaspar Noe. It is insanely long, pornographic, heavy, and they do just about any drug imaginable (DMT, LSD, Coke, E etc...)

The whole movie is told in the perspective of the brother - even after he dies. You see important moments that happened in his life with his sister. It's a very shakey cam - reminds me of Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up.

SUPER DUPER LONG. When he dies he basically floats around (takes way too long to float from one place to another) - little dialogue in the movie. Since he can't really talk after he's dead - he is just witnessing what is going on after he dies.

Noe's got other movies where 1 guy from Daft Punk made the soundtrack but all his movies are weird (like a guy fuks his autistic daughter).

BUT.. It's unique, different and I liked it. OO and if you have epilepsy - don't watch any of his movies.

damn you... watched that movie.. fucking hard core... I enjoyed it but it was just fucked up, like you said.

BTW, hate to burst your bubble but it wasn't that original - irreversible used similar concept and if you can manage the first 10 minutes of it, rest is a very fucking good movie. Also, the whole "SMBU" perspective is cool but sometimes annoying - like I sat there wanting to raise my head so I could see more but obviously, it's a trick.

the game

how could I forget? fucking mind fuck of a movie

(I felt DM "Wrong" may have been somewhat inspired by this movie)

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Feb-06-2011 04:33:

the game was a perfect mind fuck, but idk if i would consider it a fucked up movie.
what a good movie tho......never quite as good as the first time you watch it

you can watch it again to see if you can spot some holes and inconsistencies... i know I did. much like "6th sense"

Fight Club was fucked up, Choke too but funny(book, more than movie).

show of hands who thought "Zombieland" was funny but in a disturbed way.

also "Ringu"

Love the movie but it's not even in the same stratosphere as most of these. "whoa, that was crazy" != "what. the. fuck."

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Feb-06-2011 05:40:

"The Game" is by far my favorite Fincher film out of all his films. not a film, but more of a perfect roller coaster film.

also forgot to mention that if Meat is going to list 'the fountain', you might as well list 'Pi'. 'Pi' deserves at least 1 on the Meat scale.
