Add to this semi-private small to medium size loft/warehouse parties. Those still do very well in this city. There is one party every weekend, at least. Some all-nighter events attract 500-600 people, 4-5 times a year, local DJs only.... People love these parties because it's different and intimate.

Cherry (before it closed) and Daom too have a bit of that vibe.

Hey motherfucker I'm not that old, and Thelma Houston as a guilty pleasure is only on alternate Tuesdays.

no Donna Summer?

Anyone who reads the history of disco (or maybe even house for that matter) will stumble across that Comiskey Park event (too bad no youtube for that.. or is there?). But the similarities are probably there for edm.. genre gets far too mainstream and watered down and then it spawns another movement. But it gets tricky now, in part due to the techological aspects you mentioned earlier.

so in sum, it looks like we are undergoing a technological, political, economic, cultural, and even chemical edm shift

Yeah, the White Sox were pretty notorious for their aggressive and off the wall marketing tactics until this one blew up in their face. You can see references to it in a few critically acclaimed rock n roll documentaries as well.

I've only been to one warehouse party so far, and yeah it was rockin. About 200 people were there, was at a warehouse in Verdun.. I don't hear about them often, so.. put me in contact with the promoters of these parties please

Speaking of which,we have a bunch of different DJs with different styles and sounds on here, why don't we rent a loft and get all our friends together and throw a TA party?

Let's hope it does. Mainstream disdain empowers this scene. Always has.

but it also means we gotta go thru that ugly phase to get that change. Tiesto in the house room

Montreal rocks guys. It's even rocking a little too much.

Right now we are testing the very limits of what a small city like this one can handle.

2 after-hours clubs in the top 100 DJ mag, PIknic, Igloofest, Montreal en lumires, fantastic bookings, bal en blanc, black & blue.....

Never seen winter so alive in Montreal. Its usually dead. We had so much this year.

I was in New York last week-end for Ben Klock, and the vibe doesn't even compare to here.

I lived in London, Los Angeles, Sydney.... and althought they are great cities, Montreal is truely unique.

Promoters and artists from Toronto and NY writting to me saying that they want to move here, that we kick ass.

Most guests I bring are having a hard time just findind a second gig in North America.

People that haven't travelled much may think that other cities are SO much better. That everything is SO great and life would be SO much better.

The fact is most of them aren't.

Like a lot of Montreal djs/producers that can't wait to travel the world because Montreal doesn't "get it".

Believe me, if Montreal doesn't get it and you can't get a crowd moving here, most of the world won't neither.

Places like Germany are an exception, a really tiny %. Then again, Germany has it's own problems, like employment.

I think what people could do if they really enjoy a night, is to help it and pass the word around, try to bring people with you. Spread the joy.

But as promoters we do have to find better ways then Facebook to reach our audience. Honestly, It's very hard to figure that one out.

I am way too old and tired to go out and party every week-end trying to recrute new audiences. That's why we do need help from the younger people.

+1

I've lived abroad and Montreal has nothing to be ashamed of.
