Revelation is nothing more then a metaphore for the Christian's struggle against the oppression of Rome and a letter to the Christian community of the day to stay resolute. The book is full of code and allusion that would have been very clear to Christians of the first century. The seven headed serpant is Rome, the Beast is Nero (more generally the Emperor), etc... So no need to be feaked out about the first century equivilant to Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul.

I believe its the prophetic visions concerning the end of the world battle between god and the fallen angel! My belief is just as valid as yours. In your face killjoy!

Either that or its related to the wonderful toadstools popular wherever john was writing at the time haha.

haha wow reading that now it does seem really, really stupid.

I basically wanted to say something more along the lines that ancient civilizations knew a lot more about that stuff that we usually give them credit for and that they did some really cool shit with it

It's possible (although extremely unlikely) that the world will end in 2012, although we'd have to define "end of the world" more precisely... but why on Earth do people give it more credence because the fucking Mayan calender ends? What the fuck did the Mayans know that raises them above the level of other superstitious thousand-year-old civilisations?

Funny you should say this, because I had the chance to speak to Mayan natives who were also historians and guides. The leader of the group told us that it is a myth that the Mayans believe the world was going to end in 2012. He explained to us that the *original* Mayan calendar was only made up until 2012, but that people outside of the tribes "interpreted" this ending as the end of the world, which is not the case to Mayans. He went on to explain how natives often find humor in the paranoia in people around the world based in the exaggerated interpretations of their calendar. Whether 2012 is the end of the world or not, I found it interesting to learn this information.
