Wow. Blast from the past, this thread. And my 22-year-old self from 2011 was wrong. Lieb might not have had the most consistent output - the 150bpm stuff he was doing on Harthouse around '93-94 has aged terribly, and the last decade of his career has been characterised by utter mediocrity. And having seen him DJ twice, he really isn't very good at much except chaining together his own classics in the last hour of his set. But this:

Having explored his discography much more extensively in the seven year interim, I now know that Lieb has produced at least 20-30 absolutely stonking top drawer tunes. He also made at least four artist albums that are start-to-finish great, which no other trance producer will ever come close to achieving. But more than that, I've come to appreciate just how rugged, spacious and rhythmic his best productions were. More than anyone else, he justified the "tech" in tech-trance, because he made trance music using all the techniques of the best techno.

So Oliver, if you're out there - I owe you an apology.
