-- I hate progressive
Pages (4): « 1 2 3 [4]
It all depends on your mood. I can't take trance all day long, sometimes I need some prog to groove on for a while.
Prog = Trancy house. deep base with deep beats. Build ups have more beats in them than trance. If it's got a base line, a steady beat and lots of sounds that aren't all synths, then it's most likey prog.
If anyone here things prog can't build up as powerfull as trance, well go download:
Sasha&Digweed Live @ Immense Velocity.
At the 59 minute mark to about the 61 minute mark is one of the BEST builds I've ever heard anywhere. The Sax on top of those base lines... OMFG it's a track I need to find. Sure it doesn't go up and down all the time, but at least it doesn't have a 2 minutes of nothing every track like most trance does.
Both are good. Anything on Black hole is usually good prog.

I still love trance, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore like it used to. I'm tired of the roller coaster every trance song goes thru. Builds up, then silence, then build up again.
That's why i love prog so much now. Steady consistant hard beats. The louder the better. Just don't listen to it on a crappy system otherwise you prolly won't even heard some of the bass which is a huge element in prog.
Progressive House, in its purist form, is basically a hybrid of house and trance music. It takes the percussive rhythms of house music, adds the electronic synthesized melodies of trance music and fuses them together. Some people find house a little too slow and some find trance to be too hyper.
Progressive combines the greatest elements of these two kinds of music as well as incorporating elements from genres like techno, breaks, and so on.
A lot of people who are into trance would find progressive "boring" because they are used to listening to the synths and melodies. But progressive is not just about synths and melodies, the baseline of progressive songs are also a big part of it.
And once you begin to "understand" progressive, you will find that the song structures are more rich and sophisticated. You won't hear the same baseline over and over through an entire song. Also, you will discover there are many many samples, voices, and effects that are "built-in" in progressive songs. When you can fully digest and appreciate all these elements combined and placed perfectly in a good progressive song, you will scream: "This what I want to listen to from now on!"

Progressive is what really caught my ear in the first place.
Look around for some Hooj Choons workings. I'm sure Hooj will help ease you into enjoying progressive

This and Accadia - Into the Dawn (James Holden Mix)(If it counts in your opinion) are my fav. prog tracks. But I also really dig anyphink by Satoshi Tomiie. I like everyphink from Steve Lawler to James Holden in this genre, but I'd prefer a mix of the two....so does anyone phink Nu Breed 6 wuld be a good choice?? I'm asking cause its $50 here (which is quite expensive). |
I don't want to listen to it all night, but I find its great to warm up to, I don't like starting the night with full-on trance anthems. Last few times I've seen Ashley Casselle he's blown me away, and when he used to warm up for PVD at Crasher he was very progressive. IMO he plays more sort of uplifting progressive, not quite trance, but somewhere in between (if thats possible!) I think I've started to appreciate it more. I also REALLY enjoyed Steve Lawler at Space this year. I'd never seen him before but he was brilliant! He played a mixture of house and progressive and it sounded really good. Man that guy can mix!
Progressive definitely better live, it bores the shit out of me if I listen to it on a CD!
Why do ppol tell me my sets dont sound progressive but i use songs that ppol consider as being progressive i dont understand it. I mean i play at lik 133bpm or so so i guess its a tad bit faster than say 128-130bpm. Some say its not boring like progressive i really dont understand. If u'd like to see what im talkin about u can give my latest mix cd a listen called Progression For A Dream @ http://highfreq.homelinux.com/sets/...15_02_Demo.mp3.
Peace u can email me or prv msg me with what ur takes on this set are. If its progressive trance or a nice combo or a bad combo.
Peace
omg how could i have forgot, this is probably my fav progressive track of all time:
Bedrock - Beautiful Strange (Voyager's Platinum Remix)

The start of the mix seems progressive to me.. but it's evolving more and more into trance.
Calling a Svenson & Gielen remix progressive is like calling Jennifer Lopez techno.
