I just need to drive a half an hour East (not South) of Southern Ontario and cross at Lewiston NY and immediatly the roads are smooth and well made with proper markings and road signs. You can't tell me that the weather is harsher here than there. In fact, I have been to Maine which is way farther North than Southern Ontario and same thing there. Even all the way down to Virginia, the the annual snowfall is much higher than in Southern Ontario (especially throughout the appalachains up to the Adirondacks). In fact Southern Ontario is the same latitude as Northern California and Mediterranean France, but obviously our continental climate is much harsher. I think alot of Canadians and Americans are ignorant of the fact that most of the Canadian Population lives alot further south than they think.

I can tell you why the infrastructure is better in the states: their population is nearly 300 million (I think) whereas ours is around 30 million. WE have a huge land mass with a tiny population to supply taxes for better infrastructure like roads. But, that doesn't provide an excuse for the crappy job that is done in building them in the first place. Anyone remember when they were expanding the QEW niagara? It took years longer than it should of (huge waste of tax money) the skyway (still working on it for the 4th year or so and another squander). If I go directly over the border, a road that takes years to build in Canada takes a month in New York.

Most people don't go to the States for money either. In fact, most go because of Job opportunity. This provides a haven for people to start business in Canada because there are jobs that could be started (the animation graduates from Sheridan for example) but there is little incentive to start a business in Canada when you have to give 50% of your profits back to the government in taxes. That is a terribly punitive tax measure for people starting small business.

you must be a complete idiot man... comparing southern canada to northern california, Mediterranean France, etc. latitude doesn't mean shit!! vancouver is way higher than toronto and still they have a very warm winters! Are you saying that Toronto has the same weather as Marseille or Vladivostok? and comparing Maine isn't really fair, they have fewer roads compared to heavily populated southern ontario and quebec.

Anyways every society has it own priorities...

Actually that never happenned, he just promised Swamper that he wouldnt start a fight and that he would be a good patriot. If you watch carefully his replies, there is no flame or trying to start a fight, in fact his latest replies are almost diplomatic. However there are some people that cannot forget the past and want revenge at all manners by posting this kind of rude and unecessary replies and trying to start a flame war:

and you think America wants that?

no, but these individual violent outbursts happen in the USA more often than Canada, so we must be doing something different.

Our patriotism is different than yours. Ours is much more subtle, with one outburst per year on Canada Day. Oh, and gold medal final for mens hockey @ salt lake (5-2 !!!)

even though i was born in massachusetts, i lived in TO for a while when i was younger and canada is really nice now that ive grown up and thought about it. I always wondered why is that the majority of canadians live close to the border of the US?

btw, welcome back tiesto14

?? maybe because its hotter the more you go south. Most eastern Canadian towns were founded somewhere near a river... no SUV back then and the US didn't exist back then...

Quebec city founded in 1608
Montreal founded in 1642

Hey guys...I know I'm a little late.

But a few pages back, there were a few people complaining about their cars getting busted into.

Well, it was announced on the news maybe a month ago that Surrey BC (about 20 minutes from Vancouver) is THE CAR THEFT CAPITAL OF NORTH AMERICA with more cars stolen per capita than even the biggest cities like NY or LA.

Just to let you know

anyhoo, back on topic...

Anyone here have a fave city guys?

Vancouver and the surrounding area. It's pretty hard to find a place where you can go by the beach and half an hour later be up in the mountain snowboarding.

Also, the view is KILLER from the mountain at night, seeing downtown Vancouver.

hmm...more cool stuff 'bout Vancouver

oh yeah, in all those polls that those magazines and companies make, Vancouver ALWAYS ranks top5 in the WORLD...for some reason or other.

BC Bud is goooood shiat. Plus, BC Bud is ranked top in the world...(oh look it up on google or something, I remember reading the article, reasons being that Vancouvers scenery added to the "experience", and also that while it was cheap and plentiful, with almost every other household growing it AND even some houses being specifically built just to grow the stuff, the quality is still superb)

umm...well I'm fresh out.

But yeah, can ya tell I love the place I live in?

I LOVE CANADA. And America, I have an aunt that used to live there..

we should all just be friends.

Hahaha I'm sure Traz was not being serious but one person reads this ... gets offended ... responds ... escalates. It's like the cold war all over again. Really, the post is about liking canada. Not why canada is better than the US or why the US is better than canada. If you want to incite something start another thread entitled why canada is better than the US. Anyway as to whoever asked me why I liked the peel pub in toronto so much ... well where else can you get 172 oz. pitchers of good beer as cheaply anywhere else in the world? Additionally I've never had bouncers escort me so politely out of the bar after failing to make it all the way to the bathroom in time ... dammit i was halfway there. And yes I'm a serious beer drinker and I drank at smokeless joe's (something like that) with a trillion different beers but come on, 172 oz. pitchers!!! HOW can you comopete with that??????? Also the Keg is def one of the top 10 restaurants I've eaten at.

I liked Canada a lot from personal experience. Now if you're going to talk trash about living in the US or the US in general at least get some first hand EXPERIENCE of the US before you blow shit out of your ass.

Posted by occrider on Oct-25-2002 04:24:

Oh btw ... I would have to say canadian beer in general is much better than US beer. I like a nice dark beer. There are too many preppy, frat guys in the US that drink coors lite or budweiser and think they are "beer drinkers". Give me a nice German or Belgium beer any day of the week.

yes, but the reason i brought up that this wasnt a completely innocent thread in relation to america bashing, was because this was started very shortly (and very deliberately) after the "why everyone hates america" thread... (this one being titled "why everyone loves canada".

oh, and i get to go to japan now... so i will be flying from the airport of vancouver... thank you IACE branch of canada for giving me such cheap tickets!!!

(ha.. now i just have to find a way back from teh airport when i get back :/)

get yer ass to toronto woman!......i'll pick ya up at the airport

you realize that 80% of canadians live 30 miles from a major city. You also must realize that Canada's NOrth is a very unhospitable climate where it is very very cold year round.
