I completely understand what he means, I know the days where Marco Bailey - sniff made the dancefloors explode. Music evolved, it became a more appreciated kind of sound loved by millions instead of thousands. But it doesn't mean that it's crap nowadays. OK, there IS a lot of crap but the way you and me and everyone listens to music NOW is different then back then. It's all about money, the more money u want, the larger your public should be. And if u want a larger public, the sounds u make must be easier in the ears. Why u think top 50 tunes are top 50 tunes? The tunes are made to reach a mass of people. Tunes that everyone loves. Why does my father like 4strings - into the night and not decepticons - eastern promise. Because it's easier in the ears... The whole thing around trance will never be the same then before, that's why u have to switch to progressive and "techno" to get the feeling from back in the days. Techno completely brings u the underground sound |

| Originally posted by Az yeah it's definately evolved, the tracks nowadays sound far more 'professional' than the older tunes, with Li Kwan - point zero being the major exception to the rule. and 4 strings do suck, they're the new fragma |

I know why you say that...because your friends listen to it (who dont know anything about trance, it's on tv, it's on radio etc...) I'm 100% sure 95% of the people on this board found it completely awsome when they first heard it (including me, I'm not ashamed to say this, why should I?) U juest feel to elite for that kind of music now(it's not that the music is bad, it's everything around it that makes it bad), u see, no offence here, just wanne make something clear. This guy feels himself to elite to stuff like PVD etc... I should feel too elite for trance since for me progressive is much better (I don't feel elite because I was in the other stages too and know what u other people think about "that" music, I liked it too, even now but on a lower degree). Techno fans feel too elite and bash trance. Hardcore fans feel too elite and bash trance. and so on... It's some kind of neverending hierarchie. The thing is that most people can't appreciate other places on the hierarchie. Only when u have been on all the places on the hierarchie U can critisise on another one, but you should show respect for the other's too because u was in that stage too before. (man I sound like the messiah now, so I quit my post here) |
no its not that az or me or anyone feels.. ahem.. 'too elite' for the music its just that when its played every 10 minutes on radio u get tired of it..
and how can u say that progressive is the way forward, ffs its not like progressive is gonna take over the world and xfer stfu u talk shit, omfg my head is hurting i better stop reading this bullshit.
argrhghw2tqg
if anyone you are the ones who feel 'too elite' by having your head shoved up your progressive and pre '94 asses....
i don't care if you like PvD, Corsten, Tiesto...or hate them, but doing stupid shit like proclaiming that you know what real trance is, and the stuff made by todays artists is shit (in a way, i agree) is complete arrogancy
Music evolves...back in 2000, Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal mix) would be considered progressive...nowadays I'll call that trance. You're too stuck up on living in the past and coming off as a person desperate for attention, trying to "teach" us what trance is. You like those songs, thats fine...I could care less, but making stupid comments that todays trance is for "e-heads" is the stupidest shit I've ever heard. I don't see where you could pull a statement like that from
And just to make it clear, I think 2002's trance is crap, and as I've said numerous times, 1996-2000 had the best tunes. Nowadays its getting too formulaec (sp??) and there's not as much originality and emotion put into it. Still, there are some nice tracks...
Oh, and just a little hunch I have...I'm pretty sure that your opinion on Xpander will be a negative one.
I dont care who you guys like, nor do I care what you think about the songs. Everyone's opinion is different and it should be left at that. What if I said that my favorite trance song was some "commercial" song or something? Oh well, who cares? It doesn't mean it has to be your favorite. The point is people have opinions and if everyone thought the same that would be wack and I'd kill myself...
PS: Mos Man, the j in your sig is pinner... please roll fatter joints

| Originally posted by Az your making an awful lot of assumptions there TS I've NEVER liked 4 strings (Daytime was a shitty Airwave rip off, altho the free state mix is good), I deleted into the night after 2 listens (something which I very rarely do). I don't like fragma either, didnt' like Toca me, or Toca's miracle, or any of the shitty sound alike follow ups. I dont like PvD much either. I don't mind about commercialism, I mind about quality, and when it comes down to 4 strings and fragma etc... theres no originality in there stuff, diving is a blatant rip off of into the night. I agree about the Elitism factor tho, and the "progressive elite" do piss my off to an extent as well (and I like progressive a lot, I listen to it a fair bit). If your stuck listening to music from one timeframe your always going to end up thinking your elite, as everyone else passes you by, and xfer is just bitter cos he doesn't like the stuff thats coming out now. He may well be bitter, but theres no need to bitch about it on a forum in which the majority of peeps have never heard of the stuff he's posted, and never will due to his retarded (and I mean that in every sense of the word) attitude. bleh rant over |

Tranceseeker, my taste in music has evolved into tech-trance artist like Kaylab, Oliver Lieb & Mauro Piccoto. I listened to xpander, not my cup of tea, but not as bad as the stuff today.

Geez xfer... You're the most jaded asshole I've seen on this board or any message board for that matter. You've been DJ'ing since 1994? WELL... where the fuck do you DJ and what festivals/clubs have you played at in you illustrious carreer? Uh-hun,,, just like I thought. If you have such a vast knowledge of trance then why aren't you playing at festivals like PvD and Armin etc... Why you ask... because most likely it's your poor attitude,,, and your closed minded taste in ever evolving music. I feel sorry for you man,,, really I do.

guess you could say i have always stuck to what i like, im a a very picky person, as you can tell. I have done a couple big event's... but my style is not trendy enough. haha one promoter even asked me if i play stuff like Pvd.. you know how that went.. im not in it for the money like pvd and the rest. I do it for fun.
To me this is how the scene works, if you all play the same style .. you get gigs alot easier. at least out here in US. doesn't matter how good you mix. just the style and song selection.
Well,,, I must say that in your last reply you've nicely toned down your jadedness. You're right,,, in most places it doesn't matter about your mixing,,, as long as you're playing the tracks people want to hear that's all that matters. A good friend once told me,,, 90% of the time you should play what the people want to hear,,, and then the other 10% is used to edjucate them. Whatever,,, it's all on you man,,, good luck with your DJ'ing carreer.
PS- I have to disagree with you about PvD being in it for the $$$. Some other DJ's are certainly in it for that,,, but I believe he is an exception =)

BTW it's strange that you list a whole bunch of obscure tracks and then just throw in two super popular tracks like Out of Body Experience and the Prophet. Good tracks, to be sure. Strange that those were the only two tracks to capture your imagination that were not obscure in all these years of trance.
lol this remind me of when my parents tried to get me into 80's rock n the stuff they listen to
quite obviously, people who started listening to the sounds of pvd tiesto armin etc as their first taste of trance are gonna be more inclined towards their style of trance...
also i think its quite obvious that no one else shares your opinions of how good those tracks are, proving that they are only YOUR personal favourites, for a track to be labelled the best i believe it has to have sound production quality and enjoyed by many, if not all...not just 1 person who cant accept the change in the scene
Well i did say it was my opinion... and yes there are alot of tracks that alot you don't no. The only dj that played these songs in Europe back then was Sasha. He is probally the only producer/dj that has my Respect when it comes to trance. Most of the tracks i listed were made between 93-95. Dan Efx Played some also if you know who he is.
